Stuck choosing between Caradoc’s Artifact or a truthful answer in Tainted Grail? Here’s where to find him, what both options give you, and why the Artifact is the better choice.
Caradoc’s Choice – Take the Artifact or Ask a Question in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon
After shipwrecking at the start of Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon, players are separated from the mysterious and intense Caradoc—the same guy who dragged them out of the Red Priest’s prison.
While he vanishes for a bit, you’ll get a second chance to meet him later, and this time, you’re faced with an important choice: Do you ask Caradoc a question, or take a powerful artifact instead? Let’s walk through what each option really means and what you should do.
Where to Find Caradoc (Again)
You’ll find Caradoc after reaching the Horns of the South. Specifically, he’s at the Altar of the Forgotten God, which is located just north of the Lake of Blood.
Here’s how to get there:
- From the shipwreck beach, walk inland and look for a path that starts climbing up a mountain.
- Keep heading northwest through some ruins and bandit territory.
- Stay close to the mountain on the right side and follow the narrow trail.
- You’ll pass a Druidic Altar (feel free to stop and offer animal items for loot).
- Keep going until you spot a statue of a woman holding a bow—Caradoc is just up the stairs from there.

The Choice: A Question or an Artifact?
Caradoc is not in a great mood when you meet him. He suspects (correctly) that you’ve been hiding something about King Arthur’s spirit still being inside you.
After some dialogue, he says he has a powerful artifact from a beast he killed. But he offers you a choice:
- Option 1: Ask him a single question, answered truthfully.
This seems tempting if you’re hungry for lore—but be warned: it’s a trap. Caradoc uses this to test your intentions again, and you won’t actually learn much that’s useful for your survival. - Option 2: Take the Menhir Artifact.
This is a consumable item that permanently increases your Health by 5. That’s a significant, tangible bonus that directly benefits your gameplay.
🟩 Best Choice: Take the Artifact.
The question doesn’t give you anything game-changing, but +5 permanent Health? That’s hard to beat.
Bonus Loot: Beast’s Lair & Questing Beast Egg
After your decision, Caradoc lets you move on. Make sure to enter the Beast’s Lair behind him:
- Loot the chest inside.
- And don’t miss the Questing Beast Egg, hidden behind the dead creature’s body.
If you keep the egg in your inventory and walk 5,000 steps, it will hatch into a pet. It doesn’t affect combat, but it’s a cute companion and unlocks a few special dialogues with certain factions.
When it comes down to it, the choice between Caradoc’s honesty or his artifact is really a no-brainer.
The artifact gives you a permanent boost to survival, while the question is more of a narrative decoy.
Take the health buff, loot the beast’s lair, and get ready for what’s next—things only get weirder (and wyrder) from here.
