Stendarr’s Mercy Quest Guide – How to Lift Kellen’s Curse and Get the Gauntlets in Oblivion Remastered

Struggling with the Stendarr’s Mercy quest in Oblivion Remastered? Here’s how to cure Kellen, lift the curse, and claim the Gauntlets of the Crusader in the Knights of the Nine DLC.
Oblivion Remastered: Stendarr’s Mercy Quest Walkthrough
In The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, the Knights of the Nine DLC expands the world with a noble questline to recover sacred relics once wielded by the Divine Crusader. One such relic—the Gauntlets of the Crusader—comes with a twist: you can’t just grab them. You must first lift a divine curse, and doing so ties into a meaningful, moral choice.
This guide walks you through the Stendarr’s Mercy quest step by step, from starting the quest to curing Kellen and claiming the Gauntlets for yourself.

🛡 How to Start the Stendarr’s Mercy Quest
- Complete “Priory of the Nine”
This main Knights of the Nine quest is required to unlock access to the Crusader’s relics. - Speak to Sir Casimir
At the Priory, talk to Sir Casimir. He’ll tell you about the Gauntlets of the Crusader, and the curse that prevents anyone from lifting them. - Travel to Chorrol
Head to the Chapel of Stendarr in Chorrol. At the far end of the chapel, you’ll see the Gauntlets resting on the ground. - Attempt to Pick Them Up
Try to interact with the Gauntlets—you’ll receive a message stating they’re too heavy to move.

🩻 How to Cure Kellen and Lift the Curse
- Talk to Areldur (Priest in the Chapel)
He’ll tell you about the Gauntlets and Kellen, a young man affected by the same divine curse that struck Sir Casimir generations ago. - Find Kellen in the Chapel Hall
Speak with Kellen to hear his version of the story. He’ll suggest that Areldur knows more than he’s letting on. - Return to Areldur and Confront Him
Press him again and he’ll admit the truth: the only cure is to take the curse onto yourself. - Accept the Curse at the Altar of the Nine
Interact with the altar inside the chapel to take the curse upon yourself. You’ll now receive the “Lay Hands” spell. - Use Lay Hands on Kellen
Equip the spell and cast it on Kellen. This will cure him and complete your act of selflessness.

✋ Claiming the Gauntlets of the Crusader
Now that you’ve lifted the curse from Kellen and proven your worth, you can return to the Gauntlets in the chapel and pick them up successfully. Stendarr recognizes your sacrifice and grants you the strength to carry them.
🧪 Note: You are now cursed yourself. This means you’ll collapse any time your Fatigue (Stamina) hits zero, which can be quite disruptive in battle.
💡 How to Remove the Curse
The curse will remain with you until you complete the Knights of the Nine questline and retrieve all the Crusader’s Relics. Once you do, your burden will be lifted and you’ll be fully empowered as the Divine Crusader.
