Street Fighter Creator Takashi Nishiyama Is Developing a New Boxing Game

A brand-new boxing game is in the works from Street Fighter creator Takashi Nishiyama and The Ring’s Turki Alalshikh. Here’s everything we know so far.
A New Boxing Game Is in Development
Turki Alalshikh, owner of The Ring magazine and chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, has just revealed something exciting for fight game fans — a new boxing video game is officially on the way. Even better? It’s being led by Takashi Nishiyama, the creator of Street Fighter and president of Dimps, the studio behind a number of Sonic, Dragon Ball, and Street Fighter games.
With EA’s Fight Night series on ice for over a decade, boxing fans have been craving something new to fill that void. Steel City Interactive’s Undisputed tried to answer the call last year, but it fell short for many players. Between bugs, gameplay issues, and a limited boxer roster, the game didn’t quite live up to the hype, even though it’s still getting updates and fixes. That rough launch left a lot of players feeling like the boxing game scene still needs a true champion.
Takashi Nishiyama & Dimps Step Into the Ring
Thankfully, Alalshikh, who’s been making waves in the sports world since his mission to “fix broken boxing” in 2024, is stepping in. He announced on Twitter that this new boxing game will be presented by The Ring and will feature original characters. Nishiyama brings serious fighting game cred to the table, having created Street Fighter during his time at Capcom in the late ’80s. Since then, his studio Dimps has worked on multiple big-name titles, so expectations are already sky-high.
The game is still in the early stages — development hasn’t officially started yet — but Alalshikh confirmed that work will “begin soon”, with more info expected later on. It’s awesome news for fans, even if the release is likely still a few years out.
EA’s Fight Night Might Still Return
Interestingly, this news dropped not long after insider Mike Straw from Insider Gaming reported that EA is considering reviving the Fight Night series. According to the report, EA has started and stopped development multiple times due to worries about sales performance. So, while a Fight Night comeback could still happen, it’s clearly not a sure thing.
That said, EA hasn’t left the fighting scene entirely. The studio has stayed busy with the UFC series, having launched five EA Sports UFC games since teaming up with the organization over a decade ago. Rumors now suggest that UFC 6 is currently in development.
A New Era for Boxing Games?
With Nishiyama and Dimps now in the picture and Alalshikh fully committed to raising the bar, this new boxing title has real potential to bring the genre back into the spotlight. It’s too early to know exactly what the game will look like, but fans are already buzzing with excitement.
Here’s hoping this one delivers the kind of experience boxing fans have been waiting for.
