Wordle Guide & FAQs
What is Wordle? A Fun & Easy Guide!
If you’re here, you probably already know about Wordle—and chances are, you’re totally hooked! But just in case you’re new to the party (or need a refresher), let’s break it down in the simplest way possible. I started playing Wordle just to kill time… now it’s part of my daily brain warm-up ritual.
Wordle is the word game that took the internet by storm last year, and guess what? It’s still going strong in 2024! People everywhere wake up, grab their coffee ☕, and take on the challenge of guessing one five-letter word each day. Sounds simple, right? Well… not always!
So, How Does Wordle Work?
It’s simple — and kinda addictive:
1️⃣ You’ve got six chances to guess the secret five-letter word of the day.
2️⃣ After every guess, the game hits you with color-coded clues:
- Green = Right letter, right place
- Yellow = Right letter, wrong place
- ⬜ Gray = Nope, not in the word at all
3️⃣ Keep tweaking your guesses until you either nail it… or Wordle humbles you.
The coolest part? Everyone in the world gets the same puzzle. That means you can share your score, your strategy, or your total meltdown with friends, family, or your Twitter feed.
And no — you don’t need to download anything. It’s free to play on the official Wordle site or inside the NYT Crossword app for iOS and Android.
⚡ The Wordle “Fine Print” (a.k.a. The Rules You Didn’t Know You Needed)
Even though Wordle looks simple, there are a few mini-rules to keep it fair:
✅ You can only guess real words — no typing in “QWXYZ” just to test letters
✅ Letters can appear more than once (yes, “sassy” is totally fair game)
✅ There’s only one puzzle a day, so no second chances!
FAQ’s
The new Wordle puzzle drops at 12:00 a.m. local time wherever you are. So if you’re a night owl, you can play right after midnight.
Yep! While Wordle avoids recent repeats, some answers do come back eventually. So if “robot” feels familiar… you’re not imagining things.
Yes and no. You can guess plural words (like “trees”), but actual answers are almost never plurals ending in “S.”
Absolutely. Double letters are fair game — think words like “sassy” or “civic.” Always double-check your guesses!
Yep! Wordle is totally free — no app needed. You can play on the official NYT Wordle site or in the NYT Crossword app.
This one’s always up for debate. Popular starters include “ADIEU,” “RAISE,” “SLATE,” and “CRANE” — all packed with common letters to help you narrow things down fast.
Officially, you can’t replay past Wordles — but fan-made archives exist. Just search “Wordle archive” to find them. (Some might not be fully updated since the NYT took over.)
Is Wordle Still Trending?
You bet. Here’s how Wordle is performing in Google searches this year:
Wordle might be a few years old, but people are still playing (and searching) like crazy — proof the daily word game is here to stay!
