How One Modder Helped Wuchang: Fallen Feathers Fans Dodge Censorship Drama

Ever get hyped about a new update, only to instantly regret it? Yeah, welcome to Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, where update 1.5 did a hard left and, somehow, made some of the game’s most iconic NPCs and bosses go full-on unkillable.

Forget redemption arcs—these characters became immortal, popping back up after defeat like that one mini-boss in every soulslike who just. Won’t. Die.

Patch 1.5: Plot Armor Goes Bizarre

On August 12, developer Leenzee Games rolled out update 1.5, introducing major gameplay and story changes.

Their most “legendary” move? Making certain historical baddies—think Emperor Chongzhen and Liu Wenxiu—unable to die, no matter how hard you bash them.

Instead, if you “defeat” these bosses, they just collapse, spit some new dialogue, and act all exhausted.

Epic showdown? Nah, more like “awkward talk with your immortal ex.” Players… weren’t thrilled. Hardcore fans started tossing accusations that the devs bent to pressure from a small crowd upset about the game’s version of history.

Enter the Mod Hero: DarkmoonBlade to the Rescue

Cue the modding squad! While the official devs stayed suspiciously quiet (classic), a clever player on Nexus Mods known as DarkmoonBlade got busy.

Less than three days post-patch, they whipped up the “Rollback censorship patch”—a mod that basically hits CTRL+Z on the update’s changes, letting you bring back actual consequences and deaths for key characters.

Hundreds of downloads later, it’s clear the community wanted their soulslike back from the anime plot armor brigade.

DarkmoonBlade even called out the patch in their notes, saying it “ruined the game’s story and immersion.” Based on the download count, plenty of Wuchang fans agree.

How to Use the Rollback Mod (No-Nonsense Edition)

Modding’s usually scary, but this one’s pretty plug-and-play:

  1. Extract the “Rollback censorship patch” 7z file into:
    SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Wuchang Fallen Feathers\
    (Right where Project_Plague.exe lives.)
  2. Run WuchangRollback.exe — wait for the “rollback complete” message.
  3. Open Steam, find Wuchang, and under Properties > Updates, set it to “Wait until I launch the game.”
  4. Here’s the pro move: Don’t launch using Steam or Project_Plague.exe! Instead, go to
    Project_Plague\Binaries\Win64\Project_Plague-Win64-Shipping.exe
    and boot up from there.

This only works for the PC version (sorry console players), and if you start the game the old-fashioned way, the mod won’t stick.

Leenzee Games: Keeping It Cryptic

The devs? Radio silence, except for a vague promise to adjust “exhaustion animations” for “plot performance.”

Most players aren’t holding their breath for a full rollback from Leenzee, so if you want to see characters get owned for real, modding is your only option right now.

Will the Mod Last? For Now, It’s the Only Real Fix

Until the devs rethink or clarify their choices, DarkmoonBlade’s anti-censorship patch is your best bet to play Wuchang: Fallen Feathers the way it was meant to be played.

As usual, mod at your own risk—but hey, that’s what PC gaming’s all about: customizing your experience, especially when the official route gets a little too… immortal.

So, if you love Wuchang for its brutal story and high-stakes bosses, don’t let patch 1.5 nerf your fun—grab the mod and put those immortals in their place!
