Wuchang: Fallen Feathers patches up its launch disaster and claws up to “Mixed” Steam reviews. Here’s what’s fixed, what’s still busted, and what devs are promising next.
From “Overwhelmingly Negative” to “Meh”: Wuchang’s Rocky Climb
So, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers didn’t exactly stick the landing. In fact, it belly-flopped so hard on Steam that it made Warcraft Reforged look like a smooth launch.
But now? Thanks to a frantic patch and some serious groveling, this Soulslike disasterpiece has clawed its way out of the dreaded “Overwhelmingly Negative” review abyss and up into “Mixed” territory — aka the awkward middle child of Steam feedback.
Still, that’s technically progress. Kind of like going from a flat tire to three working wheels and a donut spare.
The Devs Are (Finally) Talking — And Apologizing
Leenzee, the devs behind the game, kicked off their latest July 28 update with the kind of apology you’d expect from someone who ghosted you and then showed up six months later with flowers and a patch.
“We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience,” they said, adding that they’ve been soaking up all the player feedback — “from criticism to suggestions.” Translation: yes, they saw your angry review. Probably twice.
What’s Actually Changing?
Here’s what the patch is bringing to the table — besides the apology letter:
1. Deluxe Edition Fixes (And Freebies)
Players who shelled out for the Deluxe Edition but didn’t get their exclusive items? You’re finally getting what you paid for.
- Deluxe cosmetics
- Deluxe weapons
- Plus a free digital copy of the game’s soundtrack (announced earlier)
Think of it as reparations for early adopters who got scammed by the launch mess.

2. Performance Fixes (Still Ongoing)
The devs promise continued work on:
- Game optimization (FPS hitches, load times, crash-fests, etc.)
- Difficulty tuning (some bosses hit like trucks with jetpacks)
- Overall quality-of-life tweaks
Basically, they’re trying to turn Wuchang from a rage-quit simulator into an actual game.
So… Is It Safe to Play Yet?
Eh… kinda?
It’s not the unplayable dumpster fire it was at launch, but don’t expect Sekiro levels of polish. If you’ve got a high frustration tolerance, or you love underdog projects that slowly morph into cult classics (cough No Man’s Sky), you might want to give it a second look — or at least keep it on your wishlist until they’ve patched it six more times.
What’s Next for Wuchang?
Leenzee says they’re committed to building something worthy of players’ expectations. That means:
- Ongoing updates
- More transparent dev communication
- A “comprehensive explanation about the game content” coming soon — which sounds suspiciously like damage control, but hey, we’ll take it
Redemption Arc Incoming?
Right now, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is in gamer purgatory — not quite worth the download, but not irredeemable either. If Leenzee stays on the grind and keeps listening to feedback, this game could go full phoenix-from-the-ashes.
Until then? Maybe keep your expectations low and your crash reports ready.
