Where Winds Meet: Melodies of Peace Explained
Learn how Melodies of Peace works in Where Winds Meet. Find Qi Sheng, collect all five Oddity types, and unlock permanent stat boosts through the Harmony system.
If you’ve been exploring the Qinghe Region in Where Winds Meet, you’ve probably stumbled across some strange collectibles—grasshoppers hiding in rocks, glowing lotuses surrounded by purple butterflies, beetles floating above mushroom circles. These are called Oddities, and they’re easy to dismiss as random flavor items.
They’re not. Oddities are actually one of the most valuable collectible types in the early game, feeding directly into a progression system called Melodies of Peace that grants permanent stat boosts, martial arts manuals, and even items needed to weaken world bosses. The game doesn’t explain this particularly well, so here’s how the whole system works.

What Is Melodies of Peace?
Melodies of Peace is a progression system tied to a trader named Qi Sheng. You bring him Oddities you’ve collected from around Qinghe, and in exchange, he lets you unlock nodes on something called the Harmony perk tree.
These aren’t minor bonuses. The Harmony tree includes:
- Stat boosts – HP, Precision, Critical Hit, Base Damage
- Martial Arts Manuals – Special combat techniques
- Inner Way Passives – Passive abilities that enhance your build
- Quest items – Including the Bronze Bell Fragment needed to repair the Demoncalm Bell, which weakens world bosses
Every node you unlock is permanent and contributes to your overall Martial Arts Level (essentially your gearscore). For newer players especially, investing in Harmony early makes a noticeable difference when facing the tougher bosses in the main story. If you’ve been struggling with difficult encounters like Qianye or Elder Gongsun, this is one avenue worth exploring.
Where to Find Qi Sheng
Qi Sheng is located in the Qinghe Region, specifically in the northern part of the Verdant Wilds. His stall sits between the General’s Shrine Landmark Teleporter and the Wayfarer Camp (where you picked up your first map).
Talk to him to complete a short tutorial quest also called “Melodies of Peace,” which introduces you to the system. After that, you can return anytime to submit Oddities and unlock new Harmony nodes.
How to unlock nodes:
- Talk to Qi Sheng and select “Submit Oddities”
- Choose any node on the Harmony tree
- Check the requirements in the bottom-right corner
- Press F to “Add All” required Oddities, or Spacebar to Activate
Each node has a specific effect. For example, “The Music of Laiyi” grants +4 to Minimum Physical Attack, which raises your damage floor on every hit and improves your overall DPS.
Important: Once you unlock a node, it’s permanent. You can’t deactivate or refund it. To unlock everything on the Harmony tree, you’ll need to collect every Oddity in the Qinghe Region.

All Five Oddity Types and How to Collect Them
Each Oddity type has its own collection mechanic. Knowing what to look for saves a lot of confusion.
Dagger General (Grasshoppers) Hidden inside breakable objects—rock piles, boxes, barrels, crates. Smash everything suspicious and they’ll pop out.
Enchanting Lotus These glowing flowers are surrounded by clouds of Purple Butterflies that emit Miasma, preventing you from getting close. Destroy the butterfly swarms first, then collect the lotus. If you need help managing status effects afterward, check out our how to heal illness guide.
Ironwing Mantis These will flee when you approach. You need to chase them down and grab them before they escape. Having good mobility helps—our how to fly guide covers movement options that can help with pursuit.
Redmist Beetle Found hovering above red fungi circles. You can’t collect them from ground level. Either glide down from a higher point, use a double jump, or fall from nearby terrain to grab them mid-air.
Whisper Hive Located on trees, cliff ledges, and other elevated spots. Shoot them with a Fire Arrow first (this is required), then climb up to collect from them.
Tips for Efficient Oddity Hunting
Oddities spawn once and don’t respawn after collection. That makes tracking what you’ve already grabbed important if you’re going for full completion.
- Check everywhere in Qinghe – Oddities appear across nearly every part of the region except inside dungeons
- Destroy everything breakable – Dagger Generals are the most common and hide in any destructible container
- Carry fire arrows – Essential for Whisper Hives, and you don’t want to find one without the right equipment
- Use verticality – Several Oddity types require you to approach from above or reach high places. Getting comfortable with the game’s movement system pays off here

Why Melodies of Peace Matters
This system is easy to overlook because the game introduces it quietly and Oddities look like throwaway collectibles. But the Harmony tree offers meaningful, permanent upgrades that stack with everything else in your build.
The stat boosts alone make a difference, but the real prize for completionists is the Bronze Bell Fragment. Repairing the Demoncalm Bell gives you a tool to weaken world bosses, which is extremely useful for tackling endgame content or helping undergeared friends.
Think of Oddity hunting as passive progression. Whenever you’re exploring Qinghe for quests like March of the Dead or Blind to the World, keep an eye out for these collectibles. Every one you grab now is a permanent upgrade later.
