A Pilgrimage For Power Quest In The Blood Of Dawnwalker

    TL;DR

    • A Pilgrimage For Power is a multi-part quest chain in The Blood Of Dawnwalker tied to four hidden Uriashi Sacred Stones scattered across Vale Sangora.
    • None of the stones appear on your map — you find each one by traveling to the right region and following the sound of wind chimes uphill.
    • Each stone has a different enemy encounter guarding it: a Ravenous Bear, an Essence of Grief, wolves with fanatic corpses, and a Witch boss.
    • Inspecting each Uriashi Glyph costs 2 Time Segments and rewards a Ravenous Flock Manual and 250 XP.
    • Completing all four unlocks the Ravenous Flock Witchcraft ability at its full potential — one of the most powerful witchcraft skills for combat builds.

A Pilgrimage For Power quest in The Blood Of Dawnwalker is one of the most rewarding exploration chains in the game, and also one of the easiest to miss. There are no markers on your map, no quest giver pointing you in a direction, and no obvious signal that the quest even exists until you stumble into the right area. The whole chain revolves around finding four Uriashi Sacred Stones spread across the world, each guarded by a different enemy and hiding a glyph that expands Coen’s Ravenous Flock Witchcraft ability. This guide covers every stone location, how to reach each one, what enemy you will face, the right dialogue choices where they matter, and everything you get when you complete the full chain. If you enjoy hunting for hidden content while exploring the Briar Sloughs region, make sure you also check out our guide on The Cursed Chasm quest in Blood Of Dawnwalker, which sits in the same area and rewards the legendary sword Durandal.

What Is A Pilgrimage For Power?

A Pilgrimage For Power is the Witchcraft progression questline in The Blood Of Dawnwalker. It is built around a series of ancient Uriashi sacred sites dotted across the mountains of Vale Sangora. Long before Coen arrived, Uriashi people carved powerful glyphs into standing stones at high-altitude ritual sites. Each glyph holds a fragment of the Ravenous Flock ability — a Witchcraft power that stuns a target and triggers a burst of area-of-effect attacks around them.

To fully unlock Ravenous Flock, Coen needs to find and copy all four glyphs. Each one gives him a Ravenous Flock Manual, which you read from your inventory to add a new level of the ability. From there, you spend Skill Points at any Shrine to activate the perks and push the ability to its maximum power.

The quest chain is especially valuable for Witchcraft-focused builds, but the XP and Skill Points from completing all four are useful to anyone.

How To Start A Pilgrimage For Power

The first stone in the Briar Sloughs is the easiest to find because it is located in a part of the world you will naturally pass through early in the game. After completing Smoke and Ashes and climbing the Briar Sloughs Watchtower, head northwest across the river. You will hear a distinctive sound — large, resonant wind chimes — that draw attention. That sound is your cue. Follow it and the quest begins automatically. No journal entry opens until you physically get close enough to the area for the trigger to fire.

For the other three stones, the method is the same: get to the right region of the map, activate Focus Mode to spot the hanging wind chimes in the environment, and follow them uphill. White chalk markings and cairns with yellow fabric wrapped around them also mark the climbing route at each site.

All Four Sacred Stone Locations At A Glance

    • Stone 1 — Bear Trouble: Briar Sloughs, west of Laslea Gate Shrine / near Briar Sloughs Tower
    • Stone 2 — Dark-Thing: Rockfalls, north of Westridge Outpost Shrine
    • Stone 3 — Fanatics: St. Tyna’s Grove area, east of Woodland Outpost Shrine
    • Stone 4 — The Ritual: Tantari Woods, southeast of Vedera Spring Shrine

The stones can be done in any order. There is no sequence requirement after the first one. Scouting the nearby watchtowers in each region first is recommended — unlocking a tower reveals question-mark points of interest on the map that make each mountain path easier to spot.

Stone 1 — Bear Trouble (Briar Sloughs)

Nearest landmark: West of Laslea Gate Shrine, northwest of the Briar Sloughs Watchtower

This is the first stone most players find and the natural starting point for the quest chain. After finishing the prologue and climbing the Briar Sloughs Tower, head west of the Laslea Gate Shrine. The quest trigger sits north of Briar Sloughs and south of Laslea Glen.

Cross the river to the northwest of the Briar Sloughs tower and you will be hit by the sound of wind chimes almost immediately. Turn on Focus Mode to spot the chimes and the cairns with yellow fabric marking the path. There are also white chalk markings on the rocks. Follow them uphill. The path is winding but consistently marked — keep moving and the trail will not dead-end.

Partway up you will reach an abandoned campsite. Someone was here and left food out to rot. Scan the area in Focus Mode and you will find footprints that extend the trail further up the mountain. Keep following them.

    Boss Fight — Ravenous Bear

At the top of the climb, you will arrive at a large open plateau. A Ravenous Bear is resting near the Sacred Stone. It will attack when you get close. Save before engaging if you are on a harder difficulty setting.

The bear has two main unblockable attacks to watch for. The first is a charge — it runs at Coen and knocks him down if it connects. The second is a ground slam — the bear rears up on its back legs and then crashes down directly in front of it. Both attacks can be dodged to the side. If you time the dodge perfectly, you open a window for a counterattack. Do not try to block either attack — both will go through your guard.

witchcraft manual locations in the blood of dawnwalker

Explore The Summit And Inspect The Glyph

After the bear is dead, explore the summit with Focus Mode active. On the west side of the area, you will find a Uriash body. Inspect the wound on its forearm — it shows a symbol. Near the stones you will also find a bloody knife. Together, these clues show Coen that the Uriash was attempting some kind of witchcraft ritual before something went wrong.

Once you have inspected both items, return to the center of the stone circle and interact with the Uriashi Glyph. This costs 2 Time Segments. Coen copies the glyph down. You receive your first Ravenous Flock Manual and 250 XP. Open your inventory immediately and read the manual to unlock the first level of Ravenous Flock.

Stone 2 — Dark-Thing (Rockfalls Near Westridge Outpost)

Nearest landmark: North of Westridge Outpost Shrine, in the Rockfalls region west of Svartrau City

Fast travel to the Westridge Outpost Shrine. From the abandoned outpost, walk north and begin climbing the rocky crag. This stone sits due north of the outpost, east of Svartrau City’s western edge. Use Focus Mode as you climb to follow the wind chimes and stay on the correct path up the mountain.

Boss Fight — Essence Of Grief

Partway up the climb, an Essence of Grief blocks the path. This is a Vidmo specter miniboss — not a full boss, but dangerous enough to deserve respect. It hits hard and uses the same unblockable spin attack as regular Vidmo enemies. When you see the red skull indicator, dodge sideways instead of trying to block. Attack during the openings after its combos. Defeat it to clear the path and continue climbing.

    Talk To The Uriashi Pilgrims

Near the top, you will find two Uriashi pilgrims sheltering on the mountainside. They were trapped up here by the Essence of Grief and are clearly shaken. Talk to them and keep the conversation friendly. Choose these dialogue options to reassure them without triggering hostility:

    • “Just a wanderer.”
    • “I killed the dark-thing.”

Once those lines are selected, the pilgrims will thank Coen and leave on their own. Loot the area around the stone before interacting with it, then spend 2 Time Segments on the Uriashi Sacred Stone to complete this stop and collect the second Ravenous Flock Manual and 250 XP.

Stone 3 — Fanatics (Near St. Tyna’s Grove)

Nearest landmark: East of Woodland Outpost Shrine, northeast of St. Tyna’s Grove, near a bandit camp north of one of Ambrus’ outposts

Fast travel to the Woodland Outpost Shrine and head northeast, climbing the hill east of the shrine. This stone is the only one in the chain with no boss enemy. Instead, the trial here is investigation-based.

Follow the wind chimes up the slope using Focus Mode. You will encounter wolves along the path — deal with them as you climb. Near the top you will find the Sacred Stone, but it has been destroyed. A wooden cross has been driven through it, and the bodies of religious fanatics are scattered nearby.

    Investigate The Scene

Inspect the scattered corpses of the fanatics and examine the cross planted in the glyph. Interact with the highlighted clues one by one. Because the glyph itself is destroyed, a drawing of the glyph stands in for the real interaction point here. Work through the investigation until you can interact with it, which costs 2 Time Segments.

Talk To The Uriash Who Appears

After the investigation, an Uriash appears behind Coen and starts a conversation. This person killed the fanatics to defend the sacred site. To keep things peaceful and complete the quest cleanly, choose these dialogue responses:

    • “So…what now?”
    • “These fanatics deserved it.”

The Uriash acknowledges Coen’s response and leaves without conflict. The stone is registered as complete and you receive the third Ravenous Flock Manual and 250 XP. This is the quickest of the four stops since there is no boss fight to worry about.

Stone 4 — The Ritual (Tantari Woods / Vedera Spring)

Nearest landmark: Southeast of Vedera Spring Shrine, on the southern edge of the world map, south of Tantari Woods

Fast travel to the Vedera Spring Shrine and push toward the southeastern corner of the region. Scouting the Tantari tower beforehand is strongly recommended — it reveals a question mark on the map near the stone’s location, making the approach much easier to find in an area with fewer clear landmarks.

As you approach the site, lightning will begin striking around you. Do not turn back — this is part of the encounter. Keep pushing forward through the storm until you reach a clearing.

Boss Fight — Witch Of Barren Peaks

The final stone is guarded by the Witch of Barren Peaks, the most dangerous encounter in the entire Pilgrimage For Power chain. She is a dedicated spellcaster who uses lightning-based attacks. Her lightning spells are unblockable — blocking will not work. You need to dodge out of their path and attack during the brief windows when she is recovering from a cast.

Stay mobile. Do not stand still waiting for her to commit, and do not try to tank through her spells. Watch for the visual wind-up on each lightning attack, dodge the moment she releases, then move in for damage. Keep this rhythm going and she will fall without too much trouble.

Defeating the Witch of Barren Peaks also drops extra loot worth picking up: an Aether Flow Manual, a Crimson Band (epic ring), and Aetheric Essence (epic crafting material). These are useful drops on top of the quest reward, so loot her thoroughly before moving on.

Inspect The Bodies And The Final Glyph

With the witch defeated, inspect the scattered bodies in the clearing. Once that is done, interact with the final Uriashi Glyph. This costs 2 Time Segments and rewards the last Ravenous Flock Manual along with 250 XP. A Pilgrimage For Power is now fully complete.

How To Unlock And Upgrade Ravenous Flock

After collecting each manual, open your inventory and read the Ravenous Flock Manual immediately. Reading it adds the ability to your Witchcraft pool. To actually activate it in combat, travel to any Shrine and access the Perks section. Spend Skill Points there to unlock each level of the ability. Here is what each upgrade costs:

    • 1st Perk: 1 Skill Point, 1 Time Segment
    • 2nd Perk: 1 Skill Point, 1 Time Segment
    • 3rd Perk: 2 Skill Points, 1 Time Segment
    • 4th Perk: 3 Skill Points, 2 Time Segments

At its highest rank, Ravenous Flock deals 470 area damage, triggers four hits, and lasts 20 seconds. It stuns the target and sends a swarm of Flock attacks outward — extremely effective against grouped enemies and a centerpiece of any Witchcraft-oriented build. You need all four Manuals read and sufficient Skill Points saved up to reach the top tier.

Tips For A Pilgrimage For Power

    • Scout the nearby towers first. Each watchtower you climb reveals question marks on the surrounding map, including points near the Sacred Stones. This saves guesswork when finding each site.
    • Keep Focus Mode on while climbing. The wind chimes and cairns are visible in Focus Mode. Without it, the path is easy to lose on the way up. Hold it constantly while following the trail.
    • Save before each boss fight. The Ravenous Bear, Essence of Grief, and Witch of Barren Peaks can all surprise you the first time. A quick save at the start of each summit removes the risk of losing progress.
    • Pick the right dialogue for the Uriashi pilgrims. At the Dark-Thing stone, choose “Just a wanderer” then “I killed the dark-thing.” At the Fanatics stone, choose “So…what now?” then “These fanatics deserved it.” Wrong choices can turn the Uriash hostile.
    • Do not skip inspecting clues before touching the glyph. At each stone, the glyph only becomes interactable after you have examined all the required clues in the area. If the glyph is not responding, check for uninspected items nearby using Focus Mode.
    • Read each Manual straight away. Manuals sit in your inventory and do nothing until you read them. Get in the habit of reading each one immediately after collecting it so you do not forget later.
    • Do all four stones even on non-Witchcraft builds. Each stone gives 250 XP and 1 Skill Point worth of reward. The full chain is 1000 XP and a significant ability unlock even if you never prioritize Witchcraft.
    • Dodge, don’t block, against the Witch of Barren Peaks. Her lightning is unblockable. Trying to block it will cost you health. Keep moving sideways and always be ready to dodge on her cast animation.

What You Get For Completing All Four Stones

    • 1000 XP total (250 per stone)
    • 4 Ravenous Flock Manuals — reads unlock the full ability upgrade path
    • Full access to Ravenous Flock Witchcraft ability at maximum rank (with Skill Points invested)
    • Extra loot from boss fights — Aether Flow Manual, Crimson Band (epic ring), Aetheric Essence from the Witch of Barren Peaks

    Frequently Asked Questions

How do I start A Pilgrimage For Power in The Blood Of Dawnwalker?

The quest starts automatically when you approach the first Sacred Stone in the Briar Sloughs. After completing Smoke and Ashes, head northwest across the river from the Briar Sloughs Watchtower. You will hear loud wind chimes — follow them uphill using Focus Mode and the quest will trigger on its own. No NPC points you there and there is no map marker before you arrive.

Where are all four Sacred Stones in A Pilgrimage For Power?

The four stones are in Briar Sloughs (Bear Trouble), Rockfalls north of Westridge Outpost (Dark-Thing), northeast of St. Tyna’s Grove near Woodland Outpost Shrine (Fanatics), and southeast of Vedera Spring Shrine in the Tantari Woods area (The Ritual). None appear on the map until you get close. Follow wind chimes uphill at each location to reach the stone.

What is the Ravenous Flock ability and how do I unlock it?

Ravenous Flock is a Witchcraft ability that stuns a target and triggers a burst of area-of-effect attacks around them. You unlock it by reading the Ravenous Flock Manuals found at each Sacred Stone. After reading a Manual, visit any Shrine, go to the Perks section, and spend Skill Points to activate the ability. All four Manuals are needed to fully unlock all four upgrade tiers, with the maximum rank dealing 470 area damage over four hits lasting 20 seconds.

Do I need to do A Pilgrimage For Power in order?

No. After the first stone triggers the quest chain in Briar Sloughs, the remaining three can be completed in any order. There is no sequence requirement. You can also complete them during the day or at night — there is no time-of-day restriction at any of the four sites.
