TL;DR
- The max level in AION 2 is 45 — finishing the main story gets you there.
- Episode Quests (yellow quests) give the most XP — always prioritize them.
- Do Sealed Dungeons and Strongholds alongside the story to fill the Ascension Gauge.
- Don’t grind random mobs — it’s slow and inefficient.
- Save your Odal Energy for Level 45 endgame content.
- Upgrade your gear consistently — low gear score slows everything down.
- Spend Daevanion Points as soon as you earn them — don’t sit on them.
AION 2 Max Level and How Long It Takes
The current level cap in AION 2 is Level 45. Once you hit it, the game opens up to endgame content like Conquest Expeditions, Spacetime Rifts, Abyss PvP, and high-tier dungeons.
If you follow this guide properly, you should reach Level 45 in roughly 10 to 15 hours depending on your class and MMO experience. Veteran MMO players who understand the systems can push it even faster.
The good news? Leveling in AION 2 is not a brutal grind. The game is designed to take you from 1 to 45 through a clear content path. The problem is that new players spend time on the wrong things. This guide fixes that.

How to Level Up Fast in AION 2: Step-by-Step Priority List
Here is your leveling priority list in order. Stick to this and you won’t waste time:
- Complete Episode Quests (main story) first, always
- Stop for Sealed Dungeons at their recommended level as you enter each zone
- Clear Strongholds along your path when they appear
- Do Regional Quests only when your Ascension Gauge needs filling
- Upgrade gear regularly — weapon first, then accessories
- Spend Daevanion Points as soon as you earn them
- Save Odal Energy for Level 45
Step 1: Focus on Episode Quests (Main Story)
Episode Quests are the yellow main story quests. These are your single biggest source of XP in the game. Following them from Level 1 to 45 covers almost all the XP you need — around 97% for Elyos and 99% for Asmodians.
Everything else in the game exists to fill gaps when the story asks you to reach a certain level or gear score before continuing. Don’t treat side content as your main activity — Episode Quests are the engine.
At Levels 1 to 15, just follow the yellow quests without overthinking it. Equip gear as it drops, learn your skills, and practice aerial movement. Don’t invest heavily in gear at this stage.
From Level 16 to 30, the map starts opening up. Keep following Episode Quests but start picking up nearby side quests and Sealed Dungeons. Group objectives by area to cut down travel time.
From Level 30 to 45, the grind starts feeling heavier. The story thins out a bit in this bracket. This is where Sealed Dungeons become more important to close the gap.
Step 2: Do Sealed Dungeons at the Right Level
Sealed Dungeons (also called Hideouts or Sealed Dungeon instances) are small instanced zones you’ll see marked on the map as you explore. They scale with your level and reward you with Enhance Stones, Daevanion Crystals, Kinah, and gear upgrades.
The rule here is simple: do them while you’re in that zone. Don’t plan to come back later. First clears pay out the best rewards — one first clear can give you 500 Enhance Stones, 2 Daevanion Crystals, and useful gear materials on top.
Don’t grind the same dungeon over and over during leveling. One clear is usually enough before moving on. Save repeated dungeon farming for Level 45 when the rewards are actually worth it.
Also, group Sealed Dungeons that are physically close together on the map. Running a cluster of nearby dungeons back to back is much faster than bouncing across the map for one at a time.
Step 3: Clear Strongholds Along Your Path
Strongholds are repeatable combat challenges marked on the map. They are important for two reasons:
- They contribute to filling your Ascension Gauge
- They drop belt Enhance Scrolls and Manastones — materials you can’t easily get elsewhere
Clear Strongholds that appear naturally along your route while following Episode Quests. Don’t go out of your way to hunt them down during leveling, but don’t skip the ones sitting right in front of you either.
Understanding the Ascension Gauge (And How It Blocks You)
The Ascension system is one of the key progression walls in AION 2. At certain levels — around Level 6, Level 20, Level 32, and so on — you hit an Ascension requirement. You cannot continue with the main story until the Ascension Gauge is filled to 100%.
The Ascension Gauge fills through:
- Episode Quests — main source
- Regional Quests — good for filling gaps
- Sealed Dungeons — always contribute progress
- Strongholds — also contribute progress
If you hit a wall where the story stops, don’t panic and start grinding mobs. Instead, check your map for Regional Quests, Sealed Dungeons, or Strongholds you skipped. These exist exactly to solve this bottleneck.
The biggest Ascension slowdown most players hit is around Level 32. Prepare for it by clearing a few Sealed Dungeons in the surrounding zones before the story pushes you there.
Step 4: Upgrade Your Gear Consistently
Your level in AION 2 does not represent your actual power. Gear does. Two players at the same level can have very different performance depending on how they’ve maintained their gear.
During leveling, always equip the best gear piece available in every slot. A green upward arrow in your inventory means the item is stronger than what you’re wearing — equip it immediately.
For gear enhancement during leveling:
- Upgrade your weapon first — it gives the biggest damage increase
- Then focus on accessories (amulets, belts)
- Gear is safe to enhance up to Level 10 — you don’t lose Enhancement Stones if you replace it later
- Only push gear to Level 15 if you plan to keep it for a long time
Don’t skip gear upgrades and rely on raw level. Under-enhanced gear is one of the main reasons players struggle with story bosses and dungeon content.

Step 5: Use the Daevanion System Early
The Daevanion Board unlocks at Level 12. This is one of AION 2’s most important progression tools and the one that most new players completely ignore.
Daevanion Points are earned from side quests, Sealed Dungeons, and Strongholds. You spend them on a node board that permanently upgrades your character — passive stats, combat bonuses, and the ability to push key skills beyond the normal cap.
Normal skill leveling only takes skills to Level 10. The Daevanion Board is the only way to push critical skills to Level 12 and Level 16 — the thresholds where skills unlock powerful bonus effects. That’s a significant combat power jump.
Don’t save Daevanion Points. Spend them as soon as you earn them. Focus on orange stat nodes first as they give the biggest immediate power boost. Route your points toward important skill-level nodes that suit your class.
Step 6: Unlock and Use Stigma Skills
Stigma Skills become available at around Level 23 to 35 depending on your faction and class. These are an additional skill layer that adds serious power to your character.
As soon as Stigma Skills unlock for your class, identify the core ones from your skill tree and invest in them right away. Don’t delay — they contribute to damage, survivability, and your overall combat effectiveness during the leveling phase.
What NOT to Do While Leveling in AION 2
Avoid these common mistakes that slow players down:
- Don’t grind random mobs. It feels productive but gives terrible XP per hour compared to questing. If you’re 5% short of the next level, do a quick side quest or dungeon — not a mob grind.
- Don’t spend Odal Energy on early dungeon reward cubes. Save it. Odal Energy is far more valuable at Level 45 when rewards are actually worth it.
- Don’t over-invest in early gear. Common and Rare gear has an item level ceiling of 35 and 45 respectively. You’ll replace leveling gear quickly, so don’t dump all your resources into it.
- Don’t skip Sealed Dungeons on a return trip. Do them while you’re in the zone — going back later wastes time.
- Don’t ignore the Daevanion Board. Sitting on Daevanion Points is one of the most wasteful things you can do in AION 2.
AION 2 Leveling Route: Full Path Overview
Here is the quick overview of the full leveling path from start to finish:
- Level 1 to 15: Follow yellow Episode Quests. Ascend at Level 5 (Elyos) or Level 6 (Asmodians). Start clearing Hideouts (Sealed Dungeons) at Level 10 for their first-clear rewards.
- Level 16 to 30: Continue Episode Quests. Open the Daevanion Board at Level 12. Clear Sealed Dungeons in each zone. Start picking up Strongholds. Unlock Stigma Skills around Level 23.
- Level 30 to 40: Push the story. Use Sealed Dungeons and Regional Quests to fill the Level 32 Ascension Gauge. Clear Strongholds along your path. Keep enhancing gear.
- Level 40 to 45: Finish the Episode Quest chain. Don’t stop for unnecessary side content. Cross the Level 45 line and unlock endgame.
AION 2 Faction Leveling Zones
Your faction determines where you start and which zones you level through:
- Elyos: Start in Poeta → Move to Verteron → Continue through Cantas Valley campaign toward Krao Cave
- Asmodians: Start in Ishalgen → Move to Altgard → Progress through the Dark campaign toward Krao Cave
Both paths eventually merge at the same endgame content. Neither faction has a significant speed advantage — it comes down to personal preference.
What to Do After Reaching Level 45 in AION 2
Level 45 is the beginning, not the end. When you hit the level cap, your progression shifts completely from XP to Item Level and Gear Score. Here’s what to focus on immediately:
- Finish any remaining Episode and Ascension Quests for their rewards
- Complete all Regional Quests — they provide accessories, runes, and early Item Level upgrades
- Clear all remaining Strongholds for belt enhancement materials
- Start farming Conquest Expeditions for better weapons and armor
- Work toward Item Level 1,000 as your first milestone
- Begin the Nightmare, Transcendence, and eventually Abyss content chains
- Now open your Odal Energy reward cubes from dungeon runs — the rewards are worth it here
Your first real endgame target after Level 45 is reaching Item Level 1,300, which unlocks the next tier of serious content. Piece by piece, your Item Level will climb through gear farming and enhancement.
