Apex Legends Voice Actors Refuse to Work Over AI Contract Clause
AI is making waves in the gaming industry, and not in a good way. From Call of Duty‘s developers getting backlash for secretly using AI-generated assets to EA patenting tech that could replace human voice actors, the debate over AI in gaming is heating up.
Now, Apex Legends’ French voice cast is taking a stand, refusing to work after being asked to sign a contract that would make them “give up all rights to [their] voices.”

Apex Legends VAs Are Not Backing Down
Pascale Chemin, the French voice of Wraith, went public with the issue on Instagram. In her translated post, she revealed that voice actors were sent an email with a new contract they had to sign before recording more content—and it was not good.
“At first glance, they are unacceptable, which aligns with the opinion of my specialized audiovisual lawyer,” Chemin wrote, while also tagging her fellow French VAs.
After six years of voicing Wraith, she said she felt “forced” to walk away from the role. But what she didn’t expect? The entire French cast standing with her.
A United Front Against AI
As soon as Chemin called out the contract, the rest of the cast backed her up, releasing a joint statement hoping that “an agreement will be reached between the recording studio, the broadcaster, and the publisher before recording begins.”
“We have already witnessed this kind of abuse in the past. We are being asked to agree to give up all rights to our voices, with no guarantee of limited use. We are being asked to endorse AI,” the statement explained.
Even more concerning? Actors across Europe are also getting hit with the same contract addendum due to a new law on intellectual property.
So far, EA and the Apex Legends devs haven’t addressed the situation. But with an entire voice cast taking a stand, it’s only a matter of time before something has to give. Will the industry listen, or is this just the beginning of a much bigger battle between AI and real human talent? Stay tuned.
