Ubisoft slipped something extra into Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ latest patch, and the community found it almost immediately. Title Update 1.1.10 dropped on April 7, and within hours, players had already dug up what looks like a deliberate tease pointing toward the long-awaited reveal of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced.
It’s the kind of easter egg that rewards the obsessively curious — and the Assassin’s Creed community has never had a shortage of those.
What the Update Actually Added
Before getting into the hidden message, it’s worth noting that Update 1.1.10 brought some genuinely useful content on its own. Bo weapons are now available across the open world for players who don’t own the Claws of Awaji expansion. PS5 Pro owners get PSSR 2 support, bringing enhanced image quality and improved performance. Nintendo Switch 2 players can now use mouse and keyboard controls — a welcome addition for those who prefer that input method. The patch also addressed a long list of gameplay bugs, UI issues, weapon and perk problems, and several quest progression blockers.
All good stuff. But none of that is what people are really talking about.
The Hidden Message — Decoded Layer by Layer
If you head to the Hidden River area in the Yamato region, something new has appeared: floating structures unlike anything that’s been there before. Unusual enough on its own, but the real find was the name attached to the area: “MU5DME0xTjZEME00MU40QzcxVjQ3MTBO.”
That string of characters is Base64-encoded text. Run it through a decoder and you get leet speak: “1NC0M1N6D0M41N4C71V4710N.”
Swap the numbers back to letters, and you arrive at plain English: “Incoming Domain Activation.”
That’s not noise. That’s a direct message. Assassin’s Creed community manager Zephryss — who runs the Isu Network and The Ones Who Came Before fan communities — quickly connected the dots to a domain registration that Ubisoft quietly completed back in December 2025. The company registered the official Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced website domain through a shell company, and based on this in-game message, that site may be going live very soon.
Industry insider Tom Henderson has also reported that a full reveal is expected in mid-April, with a potential summer 2026 release window. According to him, development is in its final stages.
Everything We Know About Black Flag Resynced So Far
This isn’t coming from nowhere. Ubisoft officially acknowledged Black Flag Resynced back in March 2026, when franchise Head of Content Jean Guesdon — the original creative director of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag — included a piece of concept art in a franchise update post alongside the line: “Well, except in this case, some whispers have a little more wind in their sails. Keep your spyglass on the horizon.”
The parrot emoji that followed left very little to the imagination.
The remake is being developed by Ubisoft Singapore using the same Anvil engine that powers Assassin’s Creed Shadows. What we know about the changes is significant: the modern-day storyline segments — featuring characters like Rebecca and Shaun — are reportedly being removed entirely, replaced with additional original content including parts of Mary Read’s story that were cut from the 2013 original. Gameplay is expected to shift toward RPG-style mechanics in line with more recent entries in the series, and the Caribbean islands will be expanded with new explorable content.
The original Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag earned an 88 on Metacritic when it launched in October 2013, won Best Action-Adventure Game at Spike VGX 2013, and sold over 11 million copies. For a lot of players, it remains the high watermark of the franchise — and the thought of returning to Edward Kenway’s story with modern production values is genuinely exciting.
Should You Get Hyped?
The community consensus seems to be: cautiously yes. The Base64 message is too deliberate to be accidental, the domain registration adds weight to it, and the insider reports around a mid-April reveal timing align with everything the in-game tease implies. Ubisoft clearly wants people to notice this.
That said, there’s a reason to temper expectations slightly. Black Flag Resynced has been the subject of leaks, hints, and near-misses for well over a year now — including a PEGI rating that briefly appeared and disappeared before the Game Awards 2025, and a legal warning sent to voice actor Matt Ryan after he dropped hints about returning to the role of Edward Kenway. The official reveal has been “imminent” before without materializing.
Still, the combination of an in-game encoded tease, a registered domain sitting ready to launch, and insider timing reports makes this feel different. If the April reveal happens, fans have genuinely earned this one — they decoded three layers of obfuscation in hours.
While everyone waits to see what Ubisoft announces next, there’s no shortage of things to play. The Xbox Game Pass April 2026 lineup is stacked with day-one releases, and if community-driven games are more your speed, the recent Nintendo Super Mario Maker 2 situation is a reminder of just how passionately gaming communities rally around the things they love. And on the survival strategy front, Frostpunk just crossed 11 million sales with a major DLC reveal — proof that dedicated fanbases can carry a franchise further than anyone expects.
Keep your spyglass on the horizon. Apparently, that’s Ubisoft’s advice too.
