Bloodborne Has Sold 10.4 Million Copies, and Its Popularity Shows No Signs of Slowing Down

More than a decade after taking players into the nightmare-filled streets of Yharnam, Bloodborne is still finding new hunters. And honestly, considering how good this game is, that shouldn’t surprise anyone.

FromSoftware’s gothic action RPG has reportedly sold an estimated 10.4 million copies worldwide since its original release in March 2015. What’s even more interesting is that the game continues to sell remarkably well in 2026, despite having received no proper remaster, remake, or native PS5 upgrade.

According to Alinea Analytics’ latest market estimates, Bloodborne sold approximately 251,000 copies during 2026 up to October 30. Those sales reportedly generated around $4.4 million in revenue this year, bringing the game’s estimated lifetime revenue to an impressive $317 million.

Think about that for a moment. Bloodborne originally launched as a PlayStation 4 exclusive in 2015. There hasn’t been a sequel, and Sony hasn’t released the long-requested PS5 remaster. Yet people are still buying it more than ten years later.

Of course, regular discounts have helped keep the game attractive to new players. Alinea notes that Bloodborne has frequently dropped to around $9.99, which helps explain why its 2026 revenue is considerably smaller than its lifetime total despite those additional sales.

Nearly 500,000 Players Returned to Bloodborne in October

The sales figures are impressive, but the player numbers are arguably even more interesting.

Alinea Analytics estimates that nearly 500,000 people played Bloodborne during October, up to the publication of its October 30 report. That’s a substantial audience for a game that originally arrived during the PS4 generation and hasn’t received a major official update in years.

What’s particularly interesting is how many of these players were also spending time with other FromSoftware games. According to the estimates, 12% of Bloodborne’s October player audience also played Elden Ring during the same month. Another 6% played Dark Souls 3, while 5% also spent time with Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.

These numbers point towards something that probably won’t surprise anyone who has spent hundreds of hours with FromSoftware’s games: once you get hooked on the studio’s particular brand of challenging combat, mysterious worlds, and painfully difficult boss fights, it’s pretty easy to move between its different releases.

Alinea Analytics analyst Rhys Elliott also highlighted this overlap, pointing out that there’s a group of gamers who regularly bounce between different FromSoftware games. And honestly, who can blame them?

There’s another interesting detail worth mentioning here. Alinea estimates that approximately 5.7 million PlayStation players accessed Bloodborne for the first time through PlayStation Plus over its lifetime. That’s a separate lifetime figure, not the number of people who played through the subscription service during October.

PlayStation Plus has clearly helped introduce the game to a much wider audience. Plenty of players who might have skipped an older PS4 release probably gave Bloodborne a chance after finding it in the subscription catalogue, and some of them clearly stuck around.

Why Bloodborne Continues to Attract Players More Than a Decade Later

There are plenty of excellent FromSoftware games, but Bloodborne has something special that makes it stand apart from the rest.

For starters, Yharnam is an incredible setting. Its Victorian-inspired streets, towering gothic architecture, abandoned buildings, and increasingly disturbing creatures create an atmosphere that few other games have managed to replicate. Every new area feels like there’s something horrible waiting around the next corner.

The horror isn’t just there for decoration, either. Bloodborne gradually introduces players to a world filled with twisted religious beliefs, mysterious blood rituals, terrifying beasts, and cosmic horrors. The more you discover about the city and its inhabitants, the stranger everything becomes.

Then there’s the combat, which remains one of the game’s biggest strengths.

Unlike Dark Souls, Bloodborne encourages players to stay aggressive. Its rally system gives hunters an opportunity to recover recently lost health by attacking enemies, rewarding players who take risks instead of constantly backing away. The trick weapons are another highlight, allowing weapons to transform between different forms and opening up some seriously satisfying combat combinations.

And let’s not forget the firearms. Using a pistol or shotgun to interrupt an enemy’s attack before following up with a visceral attack remains one of the most satisfying mechanics FromSoftware has ever introduced.

That combination of atmosphere, exploration, and aggressive combat is a big reason why Bloodborne still feels special. Even after playing Elden Ring, Sekiro, and the Dark Souls games, returning to Yharnam doesn’t feel like going backwards. It feels like revisiting a world that hasn’t lost its charm.

Bloodborne Still Doesn’t Have an Official PS5 Remaster

Here’s where things get frustrating for longtime fans.

Despite its continued popularity and impressive sales, Bloodborne remains one of the most requested PlayStation games for a modern upgrade. The original PS4 release is playable on PS5 through backward compatibility, but Sony has never delivered a proper PS5 version with improved performance and visuals.

The game is still officially limited to 30 FPS, and there’s no native PS5 upgrade that takes advantage of the newer console’s hardware. A PC port is also yet to materialise.

Modders have managed to make things considerably more interesting, though. In June 2026, reports highlighted unofficial patches that allowed Bloodborne to run at higher resolutions and frame rates on compatible modified PS5 consoles. Testing demonstrated 4K output, 60 FPS gameplay, and even 120Hz modes under certain conditions.

It’s worth remembering that these aren’t official updates from Sony. The modifications also require compatible hardware and aren’t something the average PS5 owner can simply install through a system update.

Still, seeing what Bloodborne can potentially do with better performance makes the lack of an official upgrade even more frustrating. Imagine exploring Yharnam at a properly supported 60 FPS without having to rely on unofficial modifications.

FromSoftware Reportedly Turned Down Bluepoint’s Bloodborne Remake Pitch

There was another interesting development earlier in 2026 that gave fans a better idea of why Bloodborne has remained untouched for so long.

According to a Bloomberg report published in February, Bluepoint Games, the studio responsible for the successful Demon’s Souls and Shadow of the Colossus remakes, reportedly pitched a Bloodborne remake to Sony in early 2025.

Considering Bluepoint’s experience with PlayStation remakes, it sounds like a pretty natural choice. The original Demon’s Souls remake demonstrated what the studio could achieve when bringing an older FromSoftware game to modern hardware.

Interestingly, the proposal reportedly wasn’t rejected because Sony didn’t see the commercial potential. According to the report, the numbers made sense, but FromSoftware didn’t want the project to move forward.

That detail is particularly important because it challenges the assumption that Sony was simply ignoring the overwhelming demand for Bloodborne. The original developer reportedly had reservations about another studio handling a remake of its beloved game.

Former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida had previously shared his own theory about the situation. Speaking on Kinda Funny in 2025, Yoshida suggested that Hidetaka Miyazaki might still be interested in doing something with Bloodborne but wouldn’t necessarily want another developer touching his creation.

Yoshida made it clear that this was his personal theory rather than confirmed inside information. Nevertheless, the reported Bluepoint situation has made that explanation particularly interesting.

Unfortunately, Bluepoint itself is no longer around. Sony announced the studio’s closure in February 2026, making the possibility of seeing its proposed Bloodborne remake even more distant.

The Bloodborne Animated Movie Gets an Important Update

While the future of the game remains uncertain, there’s finally some movement on another Bloodborne project.

Sony announced an R-rated animated Bloodborne movie at CinemaCon in April 2026, with popular gaming YouTuber Seán McLoughlin, better known as Jacksepticeye, attached as a producer.

Now, the project appears to be moving beyond its initial announcement stage.

Speaking in a recent interview with IGN, Jacksepticeye revealed that the movie has a writer and director attached. Their identities haven’t been announced yet, but the creative team has reportedly made considerably more progress on the story than it had when Sony first revealed the project.

You can read the latest update on the Bloodborne animated movie for more details.

One detail that should interest longtime fans is the direction the adaptation could take. Rather than simply retelling the events of the game, McLoughlin has expressed interest in exploring new stories within the Bloodborne universe.

That’s potentially a smart decision. Bloodborne has an incredibly rich setting, and there are plenty of stories that could be explored without following the Hunter’s exact journey from the game.

However, there’s still plenty we don’t know. The identities of the writer and director remain under wraps, and Sony hasn’t announced a cast or release date. So while the project is moving forward, fans shouldn’t expect to see it on the big screen just yet.

Bloodborne’s Future Remains Uncertain, but Its Audience Is Still Here

Bloodborne’s latest sales estimates prove that the game hasn’t disappeared from the conversation. Selling another 251,000 copies during 2026, attracting nearly half a million players in October, and reaching an estimated 10.4 million lifetime sales is an impressive achievement for any release, let alone a PS4 exclusive from 2015.

What’s missing is an official response from PlayStation.

The animated movie is finally gaining momentum, but that doesn’t mean a remaster or remake is suddenly around the corner. The reported rejection of Bluepoint’s proposal also shows that bringing Bloodborne back isn’t as simple as fans might hope.

Still, it’s difficult to ignore the demand. Players are continuing to revisit Yharnam, new hunters are discovering the game, and the community hasn’t stopped asking for a modern version.

Personally, I’d love to see Sony give Bloodborne the same kind of treatment that Demon’s Souls received. A proper PS5 release with smoother performance, higher resolutions, and the same unforgettable atmosphere would be an absolute dream.

Until that happens, though, the hunt continues. And judging by these latest numbers, plenty of players are more than happy to return to Yharnam for another night.
