Complete walkthrough for Mob Mentality mission in Borderlands 4. Learn how to access The Boss’s office, infiltrate Thirst Scrap, find the mask at Gilded Drop, and defeat Numba One in The Pit.
So you’ve rolled into Terminus Range and met The Boss at The Pit in Low Leys. Good news—he’s one of the more reasonable characters you’ll encounter in Borderlands 4, and he’s got a favor to ask. His precious mask has gone missing, and he needs a capable Vault Hunter (that’s you) to track it down. The Mob Mentality mission might sound intimidating, but it’s actually a straightforward fetch quest with some satisfying combat encounters thrown in.
This guide breaks down every step of the mission, from getting past that stubborn Meathead blocking your way to retrieving The Boss’s mask from a rather… unconventional hiding spot. Let’s dive in.
Before we get into the nitty-gritty, here’s why Mob Mentality is worth your time:

The Boss is a friend of Defiant Calder, so helping him out makes narrative sense if you’re following the story closely. Plus, who doesn’t want to storm a scrap yard and fight some Rippers?
When you first arrive at The Pit in Low Leys, you’ll notice a grapple point on a ledge that seems like it should lead to The Boss’s office. Spoiler alert: it doesn’t work. There’s a massive Meathead named Numba One blocking your path, and he’s not budging until he gets a drink.
If you’re feeling charitable (or just want to see all the dialogue):
Pro tip: This interaction is pretty funny and adds some flavor to the world. Plus, you’ll be fighting Numba One later anyway, so you might as well get acquainted now.
If you’re in a hurry or just don’t feel like playing delivery person:
Both methods get you to the same place with zero consequences, so pick whichever suits your playstyle. Personally, I recommend doing the drink route at least once for the dialogue—Borderlands 4 thrives on these weird little character moments.

Once you’re in his office, The Boss will explain the situation. His mask has been stolen and ended up somewhere in the Thirst Scrap area. Your job is to go retrieve it.
Where is Thirst Scrap?
Head south from The Pit in the Low Leys region. It’s not far—you should see it marked on your map once you accept the mission.
When you arrive at Thirst Scrap, you’ll immediately encounter hostile Manglers outside the entrance. Clear them out (good chance to test out your best weapons here), then approach the front door to speak with Pickett.
Bad news: Pickett isn’t interested in letting you waltz through the front door. Time to get creative.
This is where the mission gets a bit puzzle-y, but don’t worry—it’s simpler than it looks.
1. Locate the scaffolding tower
Turn around from the Thirst Scrap’s main entrance and look for a large scaffolding structure opposite the building.
2. Climb the tower
Look west and use your double jump + grapple hook combo to pull yourself up to the top platform.
3. Find the battery station
Once you’re on top, look south and down. You should spot a small platform with a battery station containing a removable power cell.
4. Extract the battery
Use your grapple hook to yank the battery out of its slot. Pick it up—you’ll be carrying it for a minute.
5. Move the battery to the generator
Walk toward the north-west corner of your current platform. Next to some metal generators, you’ll see an empty battery slot.
6. Insert the battery
Place the battery into the empty slot. The power surge will cause Thirst Scrap’s reinforced door to open.
7. Enter Thirst Scrap
You can either glide down with your jetpack or use the conveniently placed grapple point to swing inside.

Once inside, talk to Pickett Fenster again. He’ll finally cough up information about where The Boss’s mask ended up.
Now for the fun part. The mask is at Gilded Drop, which has been overrun by Creeps (those unsettling humanoid enemies that always give me the heebie-jeebies).

Farming tip: If you’re looking to level up quickly, Gilded Drop is actually a decent spot for enemy farming. Check out our fast XP farming guide for more grinding locations.
Once the dead drop zone is clear:
Of course it is. Where else would it be? This is Borderlands we’re talking about.
Grab the mask and prepare for the final confrontation back at The Pit.
Return to The Pit in Low Leys, but don’t expect a hero’s welcome. The place has been overrun by Rippers during your absence.
Once the outside is clear, push into The Pit’s interior. More Rippers await, but the real challenge is coming.
Remember that thirsty Meathead you either helped or bypassed earlier? Well, he’s back, and he’s not happy.
Numba One Stats:
How to Beat Numba One:
Once Numba One and his Ripper buddies are dealt with, the coast is clear.

Head into The Boss’s office (finally unobstructed) and hand over the mask. Quest complete! You’ll receive:
Okay, so you retrieved the mask and gave it back to The Boss. But what if you want to wear it?
Here’s the deal: you can’t wear it immediately after completing Mob Mentality. However, if you continue progressing through the main story and return to The Pit later, The Boss will offer additional faction missions. Complete his extended questline, and you’ll eventually unlock the mask as a cosmetic head option for your Vault Hunter character.
It’s worth it if you’re a completionist or just want to rock The Boss’s intimidating look during co-op sessions (crossplay guide if you’re playing with friends on different platforms).
Since you’re already in the area, here are some extra things worth checking out:
Mob Mentality is a solid early-game mission that showcases what Borderlands 4 on PlayStation does best: quirky characters, environmental puzzles, and satisfying gunfights. The mission isn’t particularly challenging, but it’s well-designed and offers enough variety to keep things interesting.
The battery puzzle at Thirst Scrap might trip up some players on their first attempt, but once you know the route, it’s quick on subsequent playthroughs. And honestly, finding that mask in a porta-potty is exactly the kind of absurd humor that makes this series special.
Whether you’re playing solo or tackling the endgame content with friends, completing faction missions like Mob Mentality helps build your reputation in Terminus Range and unlocks better rewards down the line.
Now get out there, retrieve that mask, and show Numba One what happens when a Meathead gets between a Vault Hunter and their loot!
