Borderlands Dead ECHOs Audio Drama Is Out Now — Stream It on Spotify and Apple Podcasts

Borderlands Dead ECHOs is officially live, and if you’ve been starving for more Borderlands content between Borderlands 4 DLC drops, this is exactly the fix you didn’t know you needed. Gearbox just dropped the first episode of their brand-new official audio drama on Spotify, YouTube, and Apple Podcasts — and it’s free to listen to right now.

This isn’t some fan-made passion project either. Dead ECHOs is fully produced by Gearbox, written by people who know the Borderlands universe inside and out, and packed with the kind of dark humor and corporate villainy that made the franchise what it is. Think of it like a radio play set in the chaotic, gun-obsessed world you already love — except this time, you’re listening instead of looting.

    What Is Borderlands Dead ECHOs?

Borderlands Dead ECHOs is an official audio drama series set in the Borderlands universe. The concept is a clever one — it’s loosely based on the idea of a Dead Letter Office, where undelivered mail piles up waiting for someone to sort through it. Only in this version, it’s ECHO Logs instead of letters, and the person sorting through them is definitely not doing it out of the goodness of his heart.

The series centers on Watts, a DAHL Corporation ECHO Operator who’s underpaid, underappreciated, and completely fine with that — as long as he can sift through undeliverable ECHO Logs and sell whatever secrets he finds on the black market. It’s a classic Borderlands setup: small-time crook with a side hustle that spirals wildly out of control.

He crosses paths with Junie, a curious stranger with a mysterious past and ties to a certain weapons manufacturer in the Borderlands universe. Junie pushes Watts toward using his skills for something more Robin Hood-esque, and the two end up in business together. Predictably, things go sideways fast — their little operation catches the eye of DAHL’s corporate hit squad, mercenaries, violent outlaws, and a power-hungry executive named Vivian Proctor who runs DAHL’s so-called Lethal Accounting Department.

If “Lethal Accounting” sounds exactly like something Borderlands would come up with, that’s because it is. Dead ECHOs nails the tone of the franchise from the jump.

    Who Is in the Cast?

Joel Watson voices Watts, and April Johnson voices Junie — both of whom also co-wrote the series, which is a pretty interesting setup. These aren’t just actors reading someone else’s script; they built these characters themselves.

On the returning cast side, David Wald is back as Wainwright Jakobs, J. Michael Tatum reprises Sir Hammerlock, and Jim Foronda returns as everyone’s favorite malfunctioning robot, Claptrap. Beyond those three, the cameo list reportedly includes Tannis, Ellie, and Crazy Earl as well — so there’s plenty of familiar faces showing up throughout the run.

The fact that the writers are also the lead voice actors gives Dead ECHOs a personal, grounded feel that a lot of franchise spin-off content tends to lack. These two clearly care about the world they’re playing in.

Where Does Dead ECHOs Fit in the Borderlands Timeline?

Dead ECHOs takes place back on Pandora — the original, iconic Borderlands homeworld — which is a deliberate contrast to Borderlands 4 shifting the franchise to the new planet of Kairos. If you missed the lawless, bandit-ruled chaos of Pandora after BL4 moved things elsewhere, Dead ECHOs is basically a return ticket.

Story-wise, the series kicks off just before the events of Borderlands 4 and is designed to wrap up around the same time the main game’s story ends. That means it’s running parallel to the main game’s narrative in some ways, and fans who’ve already finished Borderlands 4 might catch some interesting threads that connect the two.

DAHL Corporation makes a return as the villain of the piece, which tracks given their history as antagonists in earlier Borderlands titles. The corporate evil angle has always been a strong lane for Borderlands storytelling, and Dead ECHOs leans into it hard.

How Many Episodes Are There and When Do They Release?

Dead ECHOs is a 10-episode series, and episodes are dropping weekly. Episode 1 is available right now, so you’re not walking in cold — there’s actual content to dig into today. You will have to follow along week by week for the rest of the story though, so if you hate waiting, maybe bookmark this one and binge it once the full run is out.

The episodic format isn’t new territory for Borderlands. Telltale’s Tales from the Borderlands launched in exactly the same format back in 2014, releasing episodes piece by piece over several months. Dead ECHOs is moving faster than that, with weekly drops instead of month-long waits, so the wait between episodes shouldn’t be too painful.

Where to Listen to Borderlands Dead ECHOs

Episode 1 is available right now on the following platforms:

    • Spotify — Search “Borderlands Dead ECHOs” or find it via the Gearbox Official channel
    • YouTube — Available on the official Borderlands YouTube channel
    • Apple Podcasts — Available now for iOS users

It’s completely free to listen to across all three platforms. No subscription required, no paywall — just fire it up and get into it. Following the show on your platform of choice is a good call so you get notified when new episodes drop each week.

If you want to check out the official Gearbox Borderlands page for more info and updates, head over to borderlands.com. For podcast listeners, the show is also expected to land on additional podcast platforms over time, similar to how Gearbox rolled out their earlier “Echoes from the Borderlands” retrospective series across Amazon Music, iHeartRadio, and others.

What Else Is Coming for Borderlands in 2026?

Dead ECHOs isn’t the only thing Gearbox has cooking right now. Borderlands 4 is staying busy throughout the rest of the year on the game side too.

The second story DLC for Borderlands 4 is planned for later in 2026, and it’s bringing a brand-new playable Vault Hunter named Loveless to the roster. Loveless will be the second DLC Vault Hunter added to BL4, following C4SH who came as part of the Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned DLC that launched back in March. On top of that, Bounty Pack 3 — titled A Zane to Kill For — dropped last month and gave fans another chunk of content to tear through.

So between Dead ECHOs releasing weekly episodes, the upcoming Loveless DLC, and whatever Gearbox announces next, 2026 is shaping up to be a solid year for Borderlands fans. The franchise is clearly pushing into new storytelling territory with the audio drama format, and if Dead ECHOs lands well, it could open the door to more of this kind of content going forward.

If you’re already deep into the gaming news cycle, check out what else has been dropping lately — Lord of Mysteries MMORPG just locked in a free-to-play August 2026 release date, and Riot Games rolled out new parental controls for League of Legends and Valorant — both worth a look if you’re keeping up with what’s happening across the industry.

Should You Give Borderlands Dead ECHOs a Listen?

Honestly? Yeah. If you’ve put time into any Borderlands game, there’s really no reason not to at least give Episode 1 a shot. It’s free, it’s short enough to fit into a commute or a chill session, and it’s got the right kind of energy — morally questionable characters, corporate villains who are almost cartoonishly evil, and a central duo with real chemistry.

Dead ECHOs isn’t trying to replace the games. It’s doing something different — filling in the gaps, expanding the world, and giving characters who never got the spotlight in the main games a chance to breathe. For a franchise that’s been leaning heavily on ECHO Logs as a storytelling device for years, building an entire audio drama around that concept is a natural fit.

Get Episode 1 in your ears. New episodes drop weekly, so you’ve got plenty of time to catch up before the finale rolls around.
