Pearl Abyss isn’t slowing down. Less than a month after Crimson Desert‘s launch, the studio has pushed out another chunky update — Patch 1.02.00 — and this one actually addresses a bunch of things players have been vocal about since day one. We’re talking more storage, better movement controls, and yes, the ability to actually see Kliff’s face when you want to. The full patch notes are live on the official Crimson Desert site, and there’s quite a lot to unpack. Here’s a breakdown of what matters most.

Headgear Visibility Is Finally Here, and It Makes a Real Difference

One of the most requested quality-of-life additions has finally landed. The new Headgear Visibility option, found under Settings > Language & Gameplay, gives you four choices: Always Show, Show in Combat, Hide in Cutscenes, and Always Hide. It’s a small thing on paper, but if you’ve been frustrated watching Kliff barrel through emotionally charged story moments with a bucket on his head, this is going to feel like a genuine relief. Pearl Abyss has also confirmed that a similar option to hide the weapons shown on your character’s back is in the pipeline, so more cosmetic control is on the way.

Private Storage Now Goes All the Way Up to 1000 Slots

Storage has been a sore point for a lot of players, and this patch takes a real swing at fixing it. Your private storage capacity can now grow from the base 240 slots all the way up to 1000 slots — but it’s tied to how far you’ve pushed the Greymane camp expansion. The five-stage progression breaks down like this: you start with 240 slots, each of the first four expansions adds 100 slots, and the final expansion throws in a hefty 360 more, bringing your total to a full 1000. That final jump is a big one. If you’ve been diligently expanding your camp, you’ll be sitting pretty with four times the starting capacity. Just make sure you’ve pushed through all five stages to unlock the full benefit.

Movement Controls Get a Long-Overdue Choice — Basic or Classic

This one’s a big deal for players who never quite got used to how sprinting felt after launch. The new Movement Controls option lives at Main Menu > Others > Settings > Input > Movement Controls, and gives you two modes to pick from. Basic is the new default — hold the sprint key to accelerate, with stamina draining at set intervals while sprinting. Classic brings back the old-school feel — repeatedly press the sprint key to build speed, with stamina consumed each time you press. It’s the kind of option that veteran action RPG players will appreciate having, and mount stamina consumption has been adjusted to match whichever control style you pick, so the changes run deeper than just feel.

Abyss Fast Travel Gets Smarter, Plus a New Nexus in Pailune

Fast travel to an Abyss Nexus used to require you to stand completely still and dismount first, which was more annoying than it sounds when you’re trying to get somewhere in a hurry. That restriction has been loosened — you can now use Abyss Nexus fast travel while moving slightly, outside of specific situations like being mounted or using Flight. Pearl Abyss says they’re already working on expanding this to allow fast travel while on certain mounts too. A new Abyss Nexus has also been added in Pailune, giving you another convenient travel point in that region. The Flight skill also got a small but welcome tweak — it can now be activated while holding the jump key in mid-air, making aerial movement feel a bit more fluid overall.

New Content Includes Cat Armor and Redesigned Gimmick Monsters

Beyond the big headline changes, there’s some fun new stuff tucked into this patch too. Pearl Abyss has added one new armor set and helmet specifically for cats — yes, cat armor — which will make your feline companions look properly geared up for whatever Pywel throws at them. Certain gimmick monster designs have also been reworked, though the patch notes keep things vague on the specifics there.

Graphics Upgrades Land for PC, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X

For PC players, this patch is a solid technical refresh. FSR has been updated to SDK 2.2, frame generation quality has been improved, and several issues with DLSS Ray Reconstruction have been resolved — including one that was causing GPU memory usage to balloon unnecessarily. DLAA and HDR flickering at the top of the screen has also been fixed, and ray-traced reflections should now render foliage and other elements correctly. PS5 Pro owners are getting a meaningful visual bump too, with Upgraded PSSR Sharpen and Upgraded PSSR Native AA to Quality Mode both applied, improving image sharpness noticeably. Xbox Series X players in Performance Mode now have access to a 4K upscaling option, and a V-Sync issue tied to pressing the Home button has been squashed as well.

Quest Blockers and Combat Bugs Have Been Cleaned Up

Several quest progression blockers have been addressed in this patch, which will be a relief for anyone who got stuck. Chapter 6 had an issue where defeating a boss after a save/load could lock progress entirely — that’s fixed. Chapter 11 had a bug where the Inserted Key would disappear from your bag, stalling the related quest line. Selling an item before starting the ‘A Rumor Fueled by Greed’ quest would also break progression, but that’s no longer the case. On the combat side, parry wasn’t triggering properly during Focus when using a two-handed sword, some bosses were teleporting absurdly far during fights, and the Double Boost horse ability was failing to activate under certain conditions — all three have been patched out. The bank investment refresh was also getting stuck permanently in a “Refreshing” state and never updating, a small but infuriating bug that’s now been resolved.

When Is Patch 1.02.00 Available and on Which Platforms

The patch is currently live on Steam (PC and Mac), PlayStation, Xbox, and the Epic Games Store. The Mac App Store version is still in progress and will be available at a later date. Pearl Abyss has been moving at a genuinely impressive clip with these updates, and if you haven’t jumped back in since launch, this might be a good moment to give Crimson Desert another look — it’s shaping up to be quite a different game from what many people reviewed at release.
