Cyberpunk 2077 2.5 Update: Dual Wield Guns, Edgerunners 2 Quest, Cyberware Skins and More

    Key Takeaways:

    • Cyberpunk 2077 patch 2.5 is a surprise update that CD Projekt had not originally planned.
    • A new Edgerunners 2-linked side quest called Clampdown is included, with a new 5-piece King gear set as a reward.
    • Dual-wielding pistols and revolvers is finally in the game via the new Double Trouble perk in the Cool tree.
    • You can now customise the look of your hand cyberware at five new Glamdoc locations in Night City.
    • A brand new side quest, Welcome to Paradise!, features a guided Night City tour narrated by founder Richard Night.
    • Cross-platform mod support has been added for PC, Mac, PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X|S.
    • DLSS 4.5 support is included, with up to 6X Multi Frame Generation.
    • An FOV slider on consoles has been added — finally.

Nobody was expecting this. CD Projekt had basically wrapped things up for Cyberpunk 2077 after Phantom Liberty, and the general understanding was that the studio’s full focus had shifted to The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2. Then patch 2.5 drops and Night City is suddenly the most exciting place in gaming again. Timed to land alongside the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 premiere on Netflix — which hit on October 20 — this is a much meatier update than anyone anticipated, and it’s the kind of thing that’s going to pull a lot of lapsed players back in.

Edgerunners 2 Content — Clampdown Side Quest and King’s Gear

The headline Edgerunners 2 tie-in content is a brand new side quest called Clampdown, which is set directly before the events of the new anime season. To unlock it, you need to complete The Heist and do two gigs for Wakako, then wait for a message from her. It’s gated enough that it’ll feel earned rather than handed to you.

Complete Clampdown and you’ll walk away with a new 5-piece gear set based on King — one of the new characters introduced in Edgerunners 2. King is a washed-up cyberpunk legend struggling with escalating cyberpsychosis in the anime, so if that storyline grabbed you while watching, having his gear in the game is going to hit different.

There’s also a brand new radio station, HKGN 102.0 FM, which features a selection of tracks from across the Edgerunners series. Considering how much the Edgerunners soundtrack elevated both the anime and the game back in 2022, this is a straightforward win. Pop it on during a late-night drive through Night City and it slaps.

Dual-Wielding Is Finally Here — Double Trouble Perk

This is the one that’s going to completely change how a chunk of players approach the game. The new Double Trouble perk in the Cool skill tree introduces dual-wielding for Pistols and Revolvers from the Power category — an entirely new playstyle that’s never been in Cyberpunk 2077 before. There are also four auxiliary perks that build around it, so you can properly spec into the fantasy of being a chrome-handed gunslinger unloading two barrels at once through a Maelstrom hideout.

Power Pistols and Revolvers already hit hard in the current meta, so dual-wielding them is going to be an absolute blast. Build crafters are going to have a field day figuring out the optimal combo with reflexes-boosting cyberware and the new accessories that drop alongside it. New Photo Mode poses have also been added specifically to show off the dual-wield look, which suggests CD Projekt knows exactly how much players are going to flex this.

Cyberware Customisation — Glamdocs Are Now a Thing

Another genuinely fun addition: you can now customise the appearance of your hand cyberware. That means Mantis Blades, Gorilla Arms, Monowire, and the Projectile Launch System can all get a fresh coat of paint. To do it, you visit one of five new Glamdoc locations around Night City — each marked with a spray paint icon on the map and each featuring its own unique intro scene with voiceover and animations.

Every Glamdoc offers a distinct catalogue of cyberware skins with customisable colours, which means the customisation depth here is actually meaningful rather than just a skin swap. Mantis Blade builds in particular are going to go wild with this — the aesthetic of those blades has always been a core part of the character fantasy, and being able to tailor their look is a long-overdue addition.

    New Side Quests Beyond Edgerunners

The Edgerunners content isn’t the only new narrative on offer. Welcome to Paradise! is a brand new side quest that takes V on a journey through Night City on a guided tour narrated by Richard Night — the literal founder of Night City himself. To unlock it you need to complete The Heist and hit Street Cred level 15. It sounds like one of those quests that rewards long-time players with a different perspective on the city they’ve spent hundreds of hours in.

There’s also a new side quest acting as an extension of Fool on the Hill, which introduces 12 new Minor Arcana Tarot Cards to find scattered across Night City. The Tarot menu has been updated with separate sections for Major and Minor Arcana. Scan any of the new cards to activate the quest, and collect them all to unlock a special reward. If you’re a completionist who tracked down every Tarot card in the base game, this is going to scratch exactly that same itch.

New Clothing, Hairstyles, and Show-Off Additions

The fashion side of Night City is getting a significant refresh with patch 2.5. Five new clothing sets can now be purchased from vendors across the city:

    • Maxiwear — available in Heywood, Arroyo, and Little China
    • Jinguji — available in City Center
    • NetWatch — available in Kabuki and Japantown
    • IconAmerica — available in Pacifica, Badlands, and Northside
    • A fifth mystery set arriving slightly later

The NUS Infiltrator clothing set is also now available at vendors in Kabuki and Japantown. On top of that, some hairstyles previously locked to NPCs are now available for V — though note that certain styles are exclusive to feminine or masculine body types. Four new TWINTONE skins for the Quadra Turbo-R V-Tech are being distributed through Twitch Drops.

Photo Mode also gets some love with new Cyberpunk Trading Card Game frames, letting you dress up your screenshots to look like actual custom cards from the TCG. Niche but genuinely cool.

Cross-Platform Mod Support — A Huge Deal for Console Players

One of the biggest quality-of-life additions in 2.5 is the introduction of cross-platform mod support powered by mod.io. You can now browse and install player-created mods directly from the in-game menu across PC, Mac, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, and Xbox Series X|S. More mods will be added over time as the feature expands.

This is a genuinely significant step for console players who have never had access to the modding ecosystem that PC players have enjoyed for years. The selection will start smaller and grow, but having it in-game and cross-platform is the right move, and it’s something that’ll extend the lifespan of Cyberpunk 2077 on consoles considerably.

Quality-of-Life Fixes That Were Long Overdue

Patch 2.5 also addresses a handful of things the community has been asking for for a long time. The standout is the FOV (Field of View) slider on consoles — finally. PC players have had this for years, and it’s one of those comfort features that makes a first-person game significantly more playable for people who get motion sickness at tighter FOV settings.

Other quality-of-life additions include saves in the Load Game menu now being grouped by separate playthroughs — massively useful if you’ve done multiple runs — along with item filters added to apartment and vehicle stashes. Modded saves are now marked with a dedicated icon in the menu too, with a note that achievements and trophies won’t unlock while playing on console from a modded save.

Tech Upgrades — DLSS 4.5, FSR 4, Samsung 3D Support

On the technical side, 2.5 is a serious update for PC players especially. DLSS 4.5 support is now in, including up to 6X Multi Frame Generation or Dynamic Multi Frame Generation, plus the 2nd Generation Transformer Model. That’s going to make Night City run noticeably better and look sharper on supported Nvidia hardware.

The FSR options have been reshuffled — FSR 3 upscaling is gone, replaced with FSR 2.1, FSR 4, and FSR 3.1 Frame Generation. An FSR Anti-Lag 2 toggle has been added in settings.

Mac players get MetalFX Frame Interpolation and Denoising support, which brings better performance to Apple Silicon. There’s also support for glasses-free 3D on Samsung Odyssey 3D monitors, a Motion Comfort setting for balancing depth and comfort, and general performance optimisations for Ray Tracing and PlayStation 5 Pro. HDR rendering has also been improved for more accurate colours and brightness on compatible displays.

A Surprise Gift for Night City

The honest reaction to patch 2.5 is that nobody was expecting CD Projekt to do this. The studio had moved on, Phantom Liberty was the final chapter, and Cyberpunk 2077 was in that pleasant “still being played and modded but officially done” phase. Then Edgerunners 2 drops on Netflix and CD Projekt quietly goes: “here’s a whole patch.”

It’s a smart move. The first Edgerunners season sent a massive wave of new and returning players back into the game back in 2022 — one of the most remarkable second-life success stories in gaming history. Edgerunners 2 is positioned to do the same thing, and having 2.5 waiting for those players with new quests, new cyberware customisation, a genuinely exciting dual-wield build, and proper cross-platform mod support is the kind of welcome mat that makes a game feel alive again.

If you stepped away from Night City after Phantom Liberty, now’s a pretty great time to go back.
