Destiny 2 Glitch Gives Free Eververse Items Right Now

    By Krushna Vasudeva · June 21, 2026 · 5 min read

Destiny 2’s Eververse glitch is letting players walk away with free cosmetics, and it’s happening right in the middle of the game’s final stretch. The bug allows Guardians to buy items from the Eververse store and get their Bright Dust refunded after the fact, meaning the item just sits in their inventory for nothing. It’s one more wrinkle in what’s already been a rocky rollout for Destiny 2’s last-ever update.

    • A new glitch lets players buy Eververse items with Bright Dust, claim them, then refund the purchase and keep the item for free.
    • The glitch only affects Ghost Shells, Sparrows, and Ships. Exotic ornaments and armor sets appear unaffected.
    • It was discovered and shared by Destiny 2 content creator Cheese Forever, who’s well known for digging up glitches and exploits.
    • Monument of Triumph, Destiny 2’s final major update, launched June 9 after Bungie confirmed it would end support for the game.
    • The update is still pulling strong numbers, with Steam peaks over 167,000 players despite the end-of-service news.

How the Destiny 2 Eververse Glitch Works

The exploit itself is pretty simple once you know what to look for. Players can purchase any Ghost Shell, Sparrow, or Ship currently available in the Eververse store using Bright Dust, claim that item from the Collection tab like normal, and then refund the original purchase. The end result is the item sitting permanently unlocked in your Collection while the Bright Dust spent on it gets handed right back. Free item, no cost.

It’s worth noting this isn’t some game-breaking dupe glitch affecting weapons or Exotic gear. It’s strictly tied to Bright Dust cosmetics, and reportedly doesn’t extend to Exotic ornaments or armor sets, so the impact is mostly limited to skins and vanity items rather than anything that shifts the actual power curve.

Who Found the Destiny 2 Eververse Glitch

Credit for surfacing the bug goes to Cheese Forever, a content creator who’s built a reputation around finding exactly this kind of thing in Destiny 2. According to their report, the glitch had already been active for at least a couple of days before going public over the weekend, which makes it unlikely Bungie will be able to push out an emergency hotfix before the next scheduled reset.

The Eververse shop also rotates its item selection daily as part of the Monument of Triumph update, so if the bug survives until the next weekly patch, players technically get several different rotations worth of free items to take advantage of before it’s gone.

Monument of Triumph Is Destiny 2’s Final Major Update

Context matters here, because this glitch is landing during a pretty unusual moment for the game. Bungie announced on May 21 that it would be ending support for Destiny 2, and Monument of Triumph, released June 9, is the last big content drop the looter-shooter is getting. That makes bugs like this one feel a little different than they normally would. There’s less urgency for Bungie to scramble a fix when the team is already winding things down ahead of full end of service.

Despite the rocky road that got the game here, including the rough launches of Edge of Fate and Renegades, Monument of Triumph itself has been a genuine success. Recent reports suggest the update didn’t change Destiny 2’s overall trajectory, with no sequel currently in development and the rumored Shattered Cycle expansion reportedly close to finished but unlikely to see release. Still, the community has shown up in a big way for this final chapter.

Destiny 2 Player Count Is Still Strong

Almost two weeks out from launch, Destiny 2 hasn’t seen the kind of drop-off you might expect from a game heading toward end of service. Daily peaks have been sitting around 130,000 players on Steam alone, with an overall high of more than 167,000 concurrent players on June 9, the day Monument of Triumph went live. The update has also held strong in Steam’s top sales and revenue charts, occasionally even hitting the number one spot.

This Isn’t the Only Destiny 2 Glitch Right Now

The Eververse bug is just one of several exploits players have been taking advantage of since Monument of Triumph dropped. Guardians have also found ways to cheese Pantheon bosses for fast, easy rewards, and there’s a method going around for stacking duplicate artifact perks to build absurdly strong loadouts and boss DPS. If you’re looking to squeeze every bit of value out of the game’s final stretch, it’s worth checking out the Titan Bubble Yeet glitch for soloing Morgeth, which lets players farm Tier 5 Pantheon loot and Spoils of Conquest without a full fireteam.

Will Bungie Fix the Eververse Glitch?

Given how close Destiny 2 is to wrapping up its content cycle, it’s genuinely unclear how high a priority this is for Bungie’s remaining hotfix window. The studio has a week or two left before hotfixes stop entirely, and there’s still a backlog of bugs to address beyond just this one. If the glitch isn’t patched by the next scheduled reset, players will have even more time to take advantage of it before Destiny 2 moves fully into its end-of-communications phase.

For now, anyone wanting to try it out should keep an eye on official channels. Bungie typically posts patch and hotfix details through the official Bungie Destiny 2 site, and Cheese Forever’s YouTube channel is usually the fastest place to catch word of whether a glitch like this has been fixed or is still live.
