Destiny 2 Update 9.7.0.2 just dropped, and for many Guardians this feels like a genuine last goodbye from Bungie’s dev team. The patch lands as the game’s likely final major update following the Monument of Triumph content launch, targeting some of the most beloved exploits the community has been running wild with since June 9, alongside a massive list of bug fixes, balance tweaks, and quality-of-life improvements. Here’s everything that changed.
- Destiny 2 Update 9.7.0.2 released June 23, 2026, and weighs approximately 131 MB on Steam.
- The crossbow boss yeet glitch has been patched, shutting down the Ward of Dawn exploit used to fling Pantheon bosses off maps.
- The Stackening artifact perk stacking exploit has been fixed, ending the era of seven-stack infinite damage builds.
- Truth Exotic Rocket Launcher has been nerfed, dropping from 14 to 10 maximum ammo reserves.
- One Thousand Voices, Fafnir, and Tarrabah catalyst progression bugs have been fixed.
- Bungie’s community team has indicated a smaller follow-up update may still come, but only for severe game-breaking issues.
- Sony remains firm on ending Destiny 2 with no Destiny 3 currently greenlit.
The Boss Yeet Glitch Is Gone: “They Shall Yeet No More”
If you’ve been on Destiny 2 YouTube or Reddit at all since Monument of Triumph launched, you’ve probably seen the clips. Players discovered that a Void Titan with a crossbow could shoot bolts into the core of a Ward of Dawn bubble, then pick up the bubble. That pickup interaction caused a wildly unintended physics reaction that flung anything near it across the map at high speed, including raid and Pantheon bosses like Morgeth, Koregos, Argos, and Insurrection Prime. Once a boss left the map, the game’s encounter logic would register it as defeated and hand out Spoils of Conquest, Catalysts, and top-tier gear without a real fight.
Update 9.7.0.2 addressed it directly in the patch notes, with Bungie even giving it a line in the official notes: “They shall yeet no more.” The fix closes out one of the most chaotic farming methods the community has ever found, and it’s bittersweet timing given how close to end of service the game is.
The Stackening Is Over
Monument of Triumph’s reworked artifact system gave players access to all seven historical artifacts simultaneously, and players quickly discovered that duplicate perks could be stacked across those artifact slots. The result was builds running seven copies of the same modifier at once. Thundercrash with seven stacks of Thunderous Retort was one-phasing raid bosses. Threadlings with Pack Tactics stacked seven deep became a boss-erasing swarm. The community named it the Stackening, and it was genuinely hilarious to watch.
Bungie’s own official stance before the patch reflected that. The team publicly acknowledged the exploit with something close to appreciation, saying they found the videos quite hilarious and were planning a fix but encouraging players to go ahead and have fun with Atheon in the meantime. That grace period is now over. Update 9.7.0.2 fixes the artifact perk duplication restriction, meaning builds are back to one copy of each perk maximum.

What Comes After Update 9.7.0.2?
Bungie community manager Dylan Gafner has confirmed that a follow-up update may still come down the line, but with a much more limited scope. From this point forward, the team’s triage logic is essentially: fix it if it’s genuinely game-breaking, leave it if touching it risks causing bigger problems. Widespread crashes and severe server issues would qualify for attention. A weapon perk behaving slightly off or a minor visual glitch won’t make the cut. As Gafner put it, any fix now requires weighing whether the correction could break something else entirely, and with no active development pipeline to catch new regressions, that’s a real risk every time.
Bungie’s own line on the final patch state is blunt: some bugs will become permanent features of Destiny 2’s final build. New exploits discovered after this point could stick forever. It’s a strange kind of legacy for a game this size, but it’s the reality of winding down a live service title.
Where Does Destiny’s Future Stand?
Despite renewed player enthusiasm around Monument of Triumph, Destiny 2’s long-term future remains bleak. Sony, which acquired Bungie in 2022, appears firm in its decision to end Destiny 2 and has not greenlit any new Destiny projects for the foreseeable future. Whether that changes depends entirely on whether Sony reconsiders its position on the franchise, something the player community has been lobbying for actively, including a circulating petition pushing for Destiny 3 development. For now, Guardians have what they have, and Update 9.7.0.2 is almost certainly the last major effort to keep that experience as clean as possible.
