Diablo 4’s Final Lord of Hatred Dev Livestream Is April 23 — Here’s What to Expect

Blizzard's final Diablo 4 Lord of Hatred Developer Update Livestream drops April 23 at 11AM PT. Here's what's being covered, plus two free Twitch Drop cosmetics up for grabs.

The wait is almost over. Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred lands on April 28, and before the gates of Skovos open for real, Blizzard is doing one final Developer Update Livestream on April 23 at 11AM PT. This is the last major info drop before launch, and based on what’s been confirmed for the broadcast, it’s going to be worth sitting down for.

What the Stream Is Covering

Blizzard has laid out a clear agenda for the April 23 broadcast, and it goes well beyond a surface-level hype reel. The dev team is planning to go deep on several of the expansion’s most talked-about systems:

The Class Skill Trees are getting a full overhaul with Lord of Hatred — this is a Skill Tree 2.0 situation, with passive skills stripped out and skill variants added in their place. Every one of the game’s eight classes is affected, which means this touches basically every Diablo 4 player regardless of what they main. Seeing this explained and demonstrated in detail should clear up a lot of questions that have been swirling since the redesign was announced.

The Talisman System is a new build-defining feature that slots into your gear loadout and allows you to stack unique effects and set bonuses through charms. It’s one of the most significant new customization layers the game has added and the stream will be digging into how it actually works in practice.

The Horadric Cube is back — and if you grew up playing Diablo 2, that name alone is probably enough to have you already clearing your schedule for the stream. The cube is confirmed to include Unique-to-Charm conversion and Sanctification, which sounds like it could shake up crafting and gearing in a meaningful way.

New endgame systems are also on the agenda, including the War Plans feature which gives players a structured five-activity loop post-campaign with bonus rewards. That’s the kind of system Diablo endgame fans have been wanting more clarity on, so the stream should help people understand exactly what the grind looks like after the credits roll.

On top of all that, there will be a community Q&A segment at the end. If you’ve had burning questions about the expansion and haven’t gotten clear answers yet, this is your best shot at getting them directly from the team before you’re already knee-deep in Skovos.

What Lord of Hatred Is Actually About

For anyone who needs a quick refresher on where the story is heading: Lord of Hatred picks up directly from the ending of Vessel of Hatred. At the end of that expansion, Mephisto’s Soulstone ended up lodged in the corpse of Akarat — the prophet and founder of the Zakarum faith. Now, with Mephisto wearing Akarat’s face and spreading his influence under the guise of religious authority, the Wanderer and Lorath Nahr are in pursuit.

Their chase leads to Skovos — a Mediterranean-inspired island archipelago that’s existed in Diablo lore since Diablo 2 but has never been fully playable until now. It’s ruled by Queen Adriana alongside an Oracle queen, and it’s protected by the Amazons, described as the most formidable organized military force still standing in Sanctuary. That combination of a functioning, stable society built on faith and structure makes it the perfect hunting ground for Mephisto, who isn’t interested in brute force destruction — his whole game is corrupting institutions from within, turning belief systems against themselves, and watching societies fracture under the weight of doubt and hatred.

Lilith is also returning as part of the story, which is one of the most intriguing threads heading into the expansion. Since the very beginning of Diablo 4, players consumed Lilith’s blood petals and carried her essence inside them. That connection has always been in the background — and Lord of Hatred apparently brings it fully to the front, forcing players to reconnect with Lilith to have any hope of stopping her father. It’s a weird and compelling dynamic, and early reviews are calling her return one of the highlights of the expansion’s story.

Two new classes are also arriving alongside the expansion: the Paladin and the Warlock. Pre-purchasers have already had early access to the Paladin during the current live season. The Warlock, which involves tearing open the veil between worlds to wield the power of Hell itself, comes with the full expansion launch on April 28.

The Twitch Drops — How to Get Them

This is the easy win part of the day. Two free cosmetics are available to anyone who watches Diablo 4 streams on Twitch during the 24-hour window tied to the broadcast. You don’t have to watch the official dev stream specifically — any channel in the Diablo 4 category with drops enabled counts. You also don’t need to have pre-purchased Lord of Hatred to be eligible.

Here’s the breakdown:

Watch 30 minutes and you’ll unlock the Decaying Corona Staff cosmetic. Watch a full hour and the Double Trouble Sword cosmetic is yours. The window runs from April 23 at 11AM PT through April 24 at 10:59AM PT, so you’ve got a full day to accumulate the watch time across any streams you want.

To get these, you’ll need to have your Twitch and Battle.net accounts linked beforehand. Once your watch time is logged, claim the rewards through Twitch’s Drops inventory and they’ll automatically show up in your Diablo 4 account.

The Overwatch Crossover

One final thing worth flagging: the Lord of Hatred hype doesn’t stop at Diablo. Blizzard confirmed during the Overwatch Reign of Talon Season 2 reveal that a Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred crossover is coming to that game featuring a Mephisto Ramattra skin. The full collaboration hasn’t been detailed yet, but it’s expected to land on or around the April 28 expansion launch. If you play both games, keep an eye out for that.

The stream kicks off April 23 at 11AM PT on the official Diablo channels across Twitch, YouTube, X, and TikTok. And then five days later, Skovos opens its doors. It’s a big week for Diablo fans — probably the biggest since Vessel of Hatred launched back in 2024.
