TL;DR – Gamer Struggles Quick Tips

    • Dashing now recharges automatically when you land — no more waiting on a stamina bar.
    • The Slash Attack unlocks after the bear fight and pierces blocking enemies.
    • Fill the combo bar by hitting enemies without getting hit — higher grades give more EXP.
    • Use parry on single heavy attacks, not rapid combos — one missed parry and you eat everything.
    • Save the Rage Meter for bosses and tough sections, never waste it on weak enemies.
    • Wall jumps are now more forgiving — stick to the wall longer before jumping off.
    • Never get caught if you want the secret ending — every defeat counts against you.
    • Use a controller. On mobile especially, it changes everything.

Know How the Game Works in 2026

Gamer Struggles has changed a lot since its early builds. Before diving into tips, you need to know what version you are playing. The latest build as of 2026 is v0.2.4.1. Several mechanics work differently now compared to older guides you might have seen.

The biggest change is that stamina has been removed. Dashing no longer drains a bar. Instead, your dash recharges automatically every time Chiro lands. This completely changes how you move and fight. Old advice about managing your stamina bar carefully no longer applies.

A new Slash Attack was also added and a combo bar system replaced the old EXP structure. Know which version you have before following any guide — including this one.

    Combat Tips

Tip 1 – Learn to Parry Before Anything Else

The parry is the most powerful thing Chiro can do in a fight. A perfectly timed block right as an enemy swings stuns them for several seconds and gives you a free combo window. Enemies with a lot of HP go down much faster when you parry first and then pile in hits during the stun.

Practice on the weakest enemies in the opening forest section. Do not move on until you can land a parry consistently. Everything gets harder later, and parry is the one skill that keeps saving you from that point forward.

Tip 2 – Block Near Edges, Always

Getting hit near a ledge without blocking sends Chiro flying. That knockback can throw her straight into a pit. Blocking reduces the knockback so she stays in place. Any time you are fighting near a drop — always block or reposition first. Never trade punches near an edge.

Tip 3 – Do Not Spam Parry on Fast Combos

Parry works best against single heavy hits. If an enemy is throwing a fast multi-hit combo, do not try to parry every strike. One missed timing and you absorb the whole thing. Against fast enemies, block instead of parry and look for a moment when they pause to retaliate.

Tip 4 – Use the Slash Attack on Blocking Enemies

Once you beat the bear boss, Chiro unlocks the Slash Attack. This is important — it pierces through blocking enemies. Regular punches bounce off enemies who are blocking. The Slash Attack does not care. Use it whenever an enemy refuses to drop their guard. You can also move while charging the Slash, which makes it safer to use than it looks.

Tip 5 – Save the Rage Meter for Bosses

The Rage Meter builds as Chiro fights and takes hits. When full, it boosts her speed and attack power. That window is extremely powerful — but only if you use it at the right moment.

Do not pop it on random forest enemies or basic encounters. Save it going into every boss fight. Entering a boss at full Rage means you can burst the first phase before they even establish a rhythm.

Tip 6 – Jumping on Enemies Is a Real Mechanic

You can jump on top of enemies in Gamer Struggles. Landing on them stuns them briefly and also gives Chiro a small upward bounce — slightly higher than a normal jump. This is useful in platforming sections where enemies block a path. Instead of fighting them, jump over them using their head as a platform. It also stuns them for free, which opens a combo window.

Tip 7 – Hit Enemies Without Getting Hit for More EXP

The game has a combo bar system. You fill it by landing hits on enemies without taking damage yourself. The higher grade you reach on the combo bar, the more EXP you get from each defeated enemy. This means clean combat is not just about safety — it is literally more profitable. Try to string fights together without eating a single hit for maximum EXP gain.

    Movement and Platforming Tips

Tip 8 – Wall Jumps Are Easier Now

Wall jumps were notoriously tricky in earlier builds. Cumbusters extended the time Chiro can stick to a wall before sliding off, making the timing much more forgiving in v0.2.4.1. If you bounced off walls constantly in an older version, try again. The window to jump off the wall is noticeably longer now.

When wall jumping, stick to the wall first — do not rush the jump input. Let Chiro grip the wall, then jump. Rushing it causes you to slide off instead of getting the jump.

Tip 9 – Dash Lands, Then Recharges

With stamina removed, dashing now recharges automatically when you land. This means mid-air you have one dash available. Use it wisely. If you burn your dash too early in a jump, you will not have it when you actually need to close a gap or avoid an enemy. Dash at the end of a jump, not the beginning.

Tip 10 – Use Delayed Jumps on Tight Platforming Sections

Some sections in the forest and beach areas have tight gaps with low ceilings and pits below. These trips up a lot of players. The trick is to slow down and watch the gap before jumping. Dash should be your last resort in these sections — jump first, read where you will land, then dash if you need to correct your arc. Panicking and dashing immediately out of every jump is how people fall into pits.

Tip 11 – Jump From Enemies to Reach Higher Areas

Enemy bounce jumps go slightly higher than Chiro’s normal jump. In areas where you cannot quite reach a ledge or crystal above you, check if there is an enemy nearby. Jump on them and use the extra height to reach the platform. This is not just a trick — some hidden areas in the game are only reachable this way.

    EXP and Upgrade Tips

Tip 12 – Fight Every Enemy in Every Section

Do not skip enemies. Every fight gives EXP. More EXP means more upgrades. More upgrades mean fewer deaths. Players who try to dash past enemies early always hit a wall later when the game gets harder and they are under-leveled.

The game is designed so that fighting enemies is rewarded — the combo bar gives you bonus EXP for clean fights, and the upgrade system is gated behind having enough EXP to spend at checkpoints.

Tip 13 – Upgrade Health Last

Health is the least efficient early investment. A bigger health bar does not help if you are getting hit constantly. Focus on becoming harder to hit first — learn parry, learn to block near edges, learn enemy patterns. Only put points into Health once your positioning and combat skills are solid and you are reaching tougher enemies who hit harder per swing.

Tip 14 – Unlock the Slash Attack as Soon as Possible

Beating the bear boss unlocks the Slash Attack. If you are stuck on the bear, know that getting past it opens up a significant combat tool. The Slash changes how you handle shield-using and blocking enemies completely. Push through the bear fight — it is worth it.

    Exploration Tips

Tip 15 – Check Every Corner for Secrets

Gamer Struggles hides things. Items, alternate routes, hidden EXP drops, and locked content are scattered throughout every area. The game rewards players who go off the main path. If you see an unusual gap in a wall, a suspicious platform above the main route, or anything that looks slightly out of place — investigate it. You will find things other players miss.

Tip 16 – Revisit Areas After Leveling Up

Some areas have locked sections that only open once Chiro reaches a certain level or story milestone. If you hit a door or barrier you cannot pass, note it and come back. Grinding EXP in available sections and returning to locked areas later is the intended way to access additional content and secrets.

    Story and Ending Tips

Tip 17 – Be Consistent With Dialogue

Every conversation choice matters. The story tracks whether Chiro is growing or retreating. Inconsistent choices — trying to grow in one scene and being reckless in the next — weaken both your narrative payoff and the ending you unlock. Pick a direction and stay on it the whole run.

Tip 18 – Never Get Caught if You Want the Secret Ending

The secret ending is tied to completing the game without Chiro ever being caught by an enemy. The developer confirmed this as a planned ending in an official devlog. Every defeat scene disqualifies your run. If a clean run is your goal, prioritize parry practice, never engage near edges, and save the Rage Meter specifically for situations where things get dangerous.

Tip 19 – Know What the Free Build Covers

The free itch.io public build ends at the train station. If you are wondering why the game seems to stop abruptly, that is why. City content and newer story branches are Patreon-only for now. The free build still gets updates to combat systems and existing levels, so it is worth keeping up to date even if you are not on Patreon.

    Controller and Settings Tips

    Tip 20 – Play With a Controller

This tip is especially important for Android players. The touch controls in Gamer Struggles work, but they have placement issues — the bear boss fight in particular has the enemy icon overlapping the dodge button on some devices, making precise inputs nearly impossible.

A controller fixes all of this. As of v0.1.8.3, everything in Gamer Struggles — combat, menus, and platforming — can be played on a controller with full vibration support. On PC, any standard controller works. On Android, a Bluetooth controller paired before launching the game is the move. The difference in playability is significant.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Does Gamer Struggles still have a stamina system?

No. Stamina was removed in v0.2.4.1. Dashing now recharges automatically every time Chiro lands. You no longer need to manage a stamina bar, but you still only get one dash available while in the air, so use it carefully.

When do you unlock the Slash Attack in Gamer Struggles?

The Slash Attack unlocks after defeating the bear boss. It pierces through blocking enemies and can be charged while moving, making it one of Chiro’s most versatile tools in the second half of the game.

How do you get more EXP fast in Gamer Struggles?

Fight every enemy in every section — do not skip them. Keep your combo bar high by hitting enemies without getting hit yourself. Higher combo grades give more EXP per defeated enemy. Fights in later areas also give more EXP, so pushing further into the game is the fastest way to level up.

Is Gamer Struggles hard for beginners?

It can be, especially the bear boss on mobile with touch controls. The game becomes significantly easier once you master parrying, learn to block near edges, and start using a controller. The platforming sections also get easier once you understand how the dash recharge timing works on landing.

What is the combo bar in Gamer Struggles?

The combo bar fills when Chiro hits enemies without taking damage. Reaching higher grades on the bar increases the amount of EXP you get from each enemy you defeat. It rewards clean, aggressive play where you dish out damage without getting hit back.
