Want to unlock Evergaols in Elden Ring: Nightreign? Here’s where to get Stonesword Keys, how much they cost, and why they’re worth it.
How to Get Stonesword Keys & Unlock Evergaols
Nightreign’s Limveld might be a tighter map than The Lands Between, but a bunch of familiar mechanics from the original Elden Ring still show up in full force.
From the very first day, most of the map is wide open to explore—though a few spots are locked off and take a bit more effort to access.
One key feature returning from Elden Ring is the Evergaol. These aren’t new locations, technically, but they’re packed with tough bosses and worthwhile rewards.
You’ll need Stonesword Keys to get into them, though—and here’s how to track those down. Also check, Increase Max HP and How to Ping.

Where to Find Stonesword Keys in Nightreign
You can get your hands on Stonesword Keys a few different ways:
- Found in rare chests
- Earned from boss caches
- Bought from merchants
On Day 2, things get a bit easier—merchants start stocking Stonesword Keys more reliably.
A small village will even pop up on the map with a lone merchant hanging around (no enemies to worry about). That guy always has a Stonesword Key in stock.
➡️ Price: 6,000 Runes per key
Now, chests and boss drops are a bit of a gamble. You’re more likely to find a key in those nicer chests with iron inlays—not so much in the basic wooden ones. That said, if you’re lucky, it’s possible to score a key as early as Day 1.
Boss caches are also random. And since those rewards vary, you might have to pick between a Stonesword Key and something even better.
If you’re thinking of buying one, make sure you’ve got enough time left in your day to get to an Evergaol—no point wasting the Runes if you can’t use it before time runs out.

What Do You Get From Evergaols?
Unlocking and clearing an Evergaol isn’t a walk in the park, but the loot can totally be worth it. Here’s what you might find inside the boss cache:
- 10,000 Runes
- 20,000 Runes
- Rune acquisition boosts
- Resistance boosts
There are other potential drops too, but these ones especially help early in the game. A good rune boost can be a solid jumpstart—like snagging an easy level or two if you get lucky and walk out with 100,000 Runes.
Keep in mind, Evergaol bosses scale depending on what day it is and whether you’re playing solo. Still, they’re about as tough as regular field bosses, so if you’ve handled those before, you’ll be alright.
