How to Get a Map in Mortal Shell 2 (All Map Fragments & Locations)

How to Get a Map in Mortal Shell 2 — find every Ruk map fragment in Fainweald and the Ruins of Mammon to clear the fog and unlock the Sat Nav trophy.

TL;DR

  • The map in Mortal Shell 2 is covered in fog by default and does not reveal itself by just exploring.
  • You get map pieces by finding Ruk, a crow-like guide, at marked statues across the world.
  • Ruk’s locations appear as crow icons on your in-game map as you discover new areas.
  • There are 11 map fragments in total — 5 in Fainweald and 6 in the Ruins of Mammon.
  • Collecting all 11 unlocks the Sat Nav achievement or trophy.
  • Each map you collect also reveals Corrupted Gates in that region.

How to Get a Map in Mortal Shell 2

Getting a map in Mortal Shell 2 is not as simple as walking around and watching the fog lift. Unlike most open-world games, exploring an area does not reveal it on your map. You have to find map fragments hidden at specific spots across the world. Until you do that, you are pretty much navigating blind.

Who Is Ruk and Why Does He Matter?

Ruk is a crow-like entity in Mortal Shell 2. He acts as your guide throughout Fallgrim. He sits on large statues scattered across the two main regions — Fainweald and the Ruins of Mammon.

Each time you find Ruk and pick up the map piece from his pedestal, a section of the region gets revealed on your map. The more important map pieces, the ones Ruk guards personally, also mark Corrupted Gates. These are major locations that lead to powerful bosses and Beacons.

Ruk’s locations appear as crow icons on your map. They only become visible after you discover the nearby area. So keep exploring, and the icons will start showing up.

How to Get Your First Map in Mortal Shell 2

After you finish the prologue and arrive in the open world, open your map and look for a crow icon. Most players will naturally arrive at the Widow’s Overlook Beacon first — this is the starting fast travel point in the Fainweald region.

Here is how to get your first map from that beacon:

  • Turn around from the Widow’s Overlook Beacon and head southeast down the path.
  • You will reach a large arena on your right. That is where the Great Arbiter of Flesh boss waits. Skip it for now.
  • Keep going straight ahead past a group of cultist enemies. Take them out or run past them.
  • Continue toward a large tree. There are flying enemies around it with dangerous projectiles. Be careful.
  • Look to the right of the tree to find a jump pad.
  • Use the jump pad to reach the top of the hill.
  • You will find Ruk sitting on a statue at the top. Interact with the pedestal to collect the Map of Fainweald.

This first map reveals part of the Fainweald region and also marks three Corrupted Gates on your map. These gates are important — they contain bosses that guard Beacons, and clearing them gives you a large amount of Ova.

All Map Fragment Locations in Mortal Shell 2

There are 11 map fragments in total across Mortal Shell 2. Five are in Fainweald, and six are in the Ruins of Mammon. Here is where to find them all.

Fainweald Map Fragment Locations

Fainweald is the first major open region you will explore. The map fragments here are spread across various zones.

Map Fragment 1 — Near Widow’s Overlook

This is the first map you can grab. From the Widow’s Overlook Beacon, go south past the Great Arbiter of Flesh miniboss area. Look for a jump pad at the base of a rock formation. Ride the air current up to Ruk’s perch and grab the map. Also, if you want to know whether your PC can handle the game before exploring further, check our Mortal Shell 2 PC Requirements guide.

Map Fragment 2 — Blackridge Pass (North of Widow’s Overlook)

Head north from Widow’s Overlook. You will see a trial altar and then two rope bridges. Take the left bridge and it leads directly to Ruk and another map piece. The right bridge goes to the Blackridge Pass Beacon.

Map Fragment 3 — One-Legged Wolf Beacon Area

Once you are able to remove corrupted tendrils from the world, head to the trial altar between Mushroom Village and Mushroom Village Gate. Clear the tendrils past the chest surrounded by Toxic Cultists. Just a short walk away you will find the One-Legged Wolf Beacon and another map fragment from Ruk nearby.

Map Fragment 4 — Citadel of Penance

This map fragment is inside the Citadel of Penance. It is located near the center of the area, close to the market stalls. The Citadel has lots of soldiers, so try to stay stealthy or pick your fights carefully.

Map Fragment 5 — Outskirts of Nochte (Western Swamplands)

Make the long journey west into the swamplands. The map fragment is on top of a bluff near a ruined building. The beacon for this area — Outskirts of Nochte — is nearby in the shallow edge of the swamp.

Ruins of Mammon Map Fragment Locations

The Ruins of Mammon is the second main region in Mortal Shell 2. It has six map fragments spread across a large and dangerous area.

Mammon Map Fragment 1 — Outskirts of Mammon

The Outskirts of Mammon Beacon is already active by default. From there, the first map fragment is on a nearby bluff close to the catapult that requires the Makeshift Projectile to use.

Mammon Map Fragment 2 — High Lord’s Courtyard

Head northwest until you reach the High Lord’s Courtyard. The Beacon and one of Ruk’s perches are right next to each other here. Grab both — the map piece and the beacon tag — before moving on.

Mammon Map Fragment 3 — Near Lonesome Spire

This fragment is a bit tricky. It sits halfway between the eastern side of the Lonesome Spire and the quarry area of the Deserted Slums. There are enemies nearby that can catch you off guard, so stay alert.

Mammon Map Fragment 4 — Castigator’s Keep

The map piece here is along a cliffside area leading to Castigator’s Keep. You will also pass a few Grisha Hunters on the way. The easiest route is from the Outskirts of Mammon, jumping across the large gap to the south and then climbing the steps up to the Keep.

Mammon Map Fragment 5 — Gate of Infinity Area

From the Castigator’s Keep Beacon, go through the courtyard and ride the lift to the top. Beat the Starved Harridan miniboss and continue to the next area. A wide space opens up ahead. To the right of this space, you will find Ruk and another map fragment.

Mammon Map Fragment 6 — Sester’s Abbey

This is the final map fragment. Head to the Abbey Entrance area. Work your way up the steps while dealing with Sester-type enemies and watching out for Exploding Stalkers. Past a chest that needs three candle offerings, keep climbing the spiral steps to reach Ruk at the top.

What Happens When You Collect a Map Fragment?

Each map fragment does two things. First, it lifts the fog from part of the region, letting you see the terrain around that area clearly. Second, the more important fragments — the ones near Corrupted Gates — also mark those gates on your map.

Corrupted Gates are major dungeons with powerful bosses guarding Beacons inside. Cleansing those Beacons rewards you with Ova, which is a key resource for progressing through the game.

The fog that does not get cleared by a particular fragment will stay hidden until you find the fragment that covers that zone. So it pays to search for all of them.

How Many Map Fragments Are There in Mortal Shell 2?

There are 11 map fragments in total. Five are in Fainweald and six are in the Ruins of Mammon. Collecting every single one unlocks the “Sat Nav” achievement or trophy. It is one of the more satisfying completionist goals in the game because it also means you have fully explored both regions.

Tips for Finding Maps Faster in Mortal Shell 2

  • Watch your map for crow icons. Every time you enter a new area, check if any crow icons have appeared. That is Ruk waiting with a map piece.
  • Unlock fast travel early. After the prologue, visit Marrow Keep and collect at least five Ova. This unlocks fast travel to your tagged Beacons and makes map hunting much faster.
  • Clear corrupted tendrils. Some Ruk locations and beacons are locked behind corrupted vines. Once you have the ability to remove them, revisit old areas to access previously blocked spots.
  • Do not rush past Ruk’s icons. The crow icon marks the map location, but getting there often involves dealing with enemies or jumping puzzles. Take your time.
  • Grab beacons alongside maps. Ruk’s locations are often near beacons. Always cleanse the beacon while you are in the area so you have a fast travel point for later.

Wrapping Up

Getting a map in Mortal Shell 2 is not something the game explains well upfront. But once you understand how Ruk works and where to look, it becomes one of the more rewarding parts of exploring Fallgrim. Each crow icon you find, each map piece you collect, pulls back the fog and makes the world feel more navigable.

There are 11 fragments to find across Fainweald and the Ruins of Mammon. Start with the one near Widow’s Overlook, follow the crow icons as they appear, and work your way through both regions. The Sat Nav trophy at the end is a nice bonus, but the real reward is finally having a clear picture of a world that starts completely in the dark.
