TL;DR
- You can hide the cowl on most suits in Marvel’s Wolverine.
- Open the Suit menu, select the suit you want, and press Triangle to remove the cowl.
- This removes whatever headgear that suit comes with — cowl, hat, or eyepatch.
- The change applies to gameplay and cutscenes.
- The cowl option is per suit — you set it individually for each outfit.
- Some suits have no cowl at all by default, so the option won’t appear for those.
- Certain missions force a specific suit — the cowl setting may not apply during those sections.
How to hide cowl in Marvel’s Wolverine is one of the game’s less obvious features. The game doesn’t explain it clearly, but the option is there from the moment suit swapping becomes available. If you want to see Logan’s face during cutscenes and gameplay without switching to a no-cowl suit, this guide explains exactly how to do it.
Why Hide the Cowl?
Many of Marvel’s Wolverine’s suits come with a cowl, helmet, hat, or some other headgear. Some of these look great. Others are a matter of personal taste — and a few suits genuinely look better without the headgear on.
Insomniac put a lot of work into Logan’s face, expressions, and motion capture animations. Removing the cowl lets you appreciate all of that during cutscenes instead of watching a masked character react to story moments.
It’s the same kind of quality-of-life feature Insomniac included in the Spider-Man games, where you could toggle the mask on and off. The same logic applies here.
How to Hide the Cowl — Step by Step
- Pause the game and open the main menu.
- Navigate to the Suit menu.
- Select the suit you currently have equipped or the suit you want to switch to.
- Press the Triangle button. The prompt will say “Remove Cowl”.
- The headgear is removed instantly. Logan’s face is now visible in gameplay and cutscenes.
That’s all there is to it. The change applies immediately. You don’t need to reload a checkpoint or restart the mission.
What Does “Remove Cowl” Actually Remove?
The Triangle button removes whatever headgear is attached to the suit you have selected. This is not always just a cowl. Depending on the suit, pressing Triangle can remove:
- A full cowl or helmet — the standard for most suits based on Wolverine’s classic comic looks.
- A hat — some suits feature Logan’s more casual looks with a cap or similar headwear.
- An eyepatch — the Patch suit, which is Logan’s Madripoor alias look, has an eyepatch that can also be removed with this option.
Whatever the headgear is, the same button removes it. If you want Logan to go bare-faced regardless of which suit you’re wearing, just press Triangle on each suit once and the preference is saved.
Is the Cowl Setting Per Suit?
Yes. The cowl setting is saved individually for each suit. If you remove the cowl on the Battle Reborn suit, it stays removed every time you equip that suit — until you press Triangle again to put it back on.
You need to set the cowl preference separately for each suit you use. It does not apply globally to all suits at once. If you regularly switch between outfits, you will need to toggle the cowl on each one individually.
Does Removing the Cowl Show in Cutscenes?
Yes. This is one of the main reasons to use this feature. When the cowl is removed, Logan’s face is visible in cutscenes, not just during gameplay. This makes a real difference in emotional moments throughout the story — you can see his expressions clearly instead of watching a masked figure react to what’s happening on screen.
Insomniac designed the feature with this in mind. The motion capture and facial animation work is detailed, and the cowl toggle lets you see the full benefit of it across the whole game.
Which Suits Have a Cowl to Remove?
Most of Marvel’s Wolverine’s 27 base game suits come with some form of headgear. Classic comic suits like Battle Reborn, Gold Standard, Fang, Ultimate Yellow, and others all feature cowls that can be toggled off.
A handful of suits have no headgear at all by default — the Tank Top and Dressed Down suits, for example, are already bareface looks. On those suits, the Remove Cowl option simply won’t appear because there is nothing to remove.

When Does the Cowl Setting Not Apply?
There are two situations where your cowl preference may not carry over:
- Mission-locked suits: Certain missions in Marvel’s Wolverine force Logan into a specific outfit for story reasons. During those sections, your chosen suit and cowl setting may not apply. The game will return to your preferred outfit after the forced section ends.
- During cutscenes tied to a specific suit: If a cutscene is directly tied to a particular costume by the story, it may display that suit regardless of what you have equipped.
Outside of those specific moments, your cowl setting will carry through gameplay and cutscenes normally.
Can You Switch Suits During a Mission?
Yes, but with one small limitation. You can open the Suit menu and swap your outfit at any point during a mission — including mid-combat if you want. The only exception is during cutscenes, where the menu is not accessible.
This means you can remove the cowl before a cutscene starts and it will still apply when that cutscene plays. Just make sure the setting is saved before the cinematic begins.
Does Removing the Cowl Affect Health or Stats?
No. Suits in Marvel’s Wolverine are purely cosmetic. Removing the cowl has no effect on any gameplay stat — not damage, not health, not Rage build-up, nothing. The only mechanical aspect tied to suits is how many you own, which feeds into the health upgrade system. The cowl toggle itself has zero gameplay impact.

Can You Also Swap Claws Independently?
Yes. Claws in Marvel’s Wolverine are separate from suits and can be mixed and matched freely. When you craft a suit, you also unlock its matching claw set. But you are not locked into wearing those claws with that suit — you can equip any claw design with any suit you like.
The only exception is the Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls suit, which comes with the Fightin’ Souls Claws that cannot be equipped with other suits.
Between the suit choice, the cowl toggle, and the independent claw selection, there is a lot of flexibility in how Logan looks throughout the game.
