- Student Level is the hard cap for all leveling in Aniimo — both your Pathfinder and your Aniimo team are limited by it.
- To raise it, you must complete Elite Training — at least four required course objectives per chapter.
- After completing the objectives, report to Dr. Lewis at the Outpost to trigger the Promotion Assessment.
- Pass the assessment and the final theory questionnaire to earn your new Pathfinder title and a higher level cap.
- Grinding EXP alone will never break a level cap — only Elite Training promotions can do that.
- Each promotion rewards Report Cards, which are spent on active skills and passive talents.
- The title ladder goes: Student I → Student II → Student III → Wayfarer I → Wayfarer II → Wayfarer III → Trailblazer I → Trailblazer II.
- Research Level is a separate system and does not raise your level cap.
Aniimo has a layered leveling system, and it trips up a lot of players. You are grinding EXP, your bar is filling up, and then it just stops. No matter how many battles you win or how many Aniimo you catch, the number refuses to move. That is not a bug. That is the Student Level system doing exactly what it is designed to do.
Your Student Level — also called your Pathfinder title — is a hard cap that controls how far your character and every Aniimo on your team can level. The only way past it is through Elite Training. This guide explains the whole system from start to finish, so you always know what to do next when your progression hits a wall.
What Is Student Level in Aniimo?
Aniimo runs three separate level systems at the same time, and they are all connected to each other.
- Pathfinder Level — This is your character’s level. It controls your stats, damage output, capture rate, stamina, and your Twine damage bonus. Your Pathfinder Level also acts as a soft cap for your Aniimo team. No Aniimo can level higher than your current character level.
- Student Level (Pathfinder Title) — This is the hard cap that controls everything. Both your Pathfinder Level and your Aniimo levels are limited by your current Student Level. It only goes up through Elite Training promotions. Grinding EXP does nothing to push it forward.
- Aniimo Level — Each creature has its own level, which determines its stats and unlocks its abilities. An Aniimo can never exceed your Pathfinder Level, and your Pathfinder Level can never exceed your Student Level hard cap.
The result is a stacked system. Student Level limits your Pathfinder Level. Your Pathfinder Level limits your Aniimo. If your team feels stuck, the fix is almost always to push your Student Level higher rather than farm more EXP.

All Student Level Titles and Their Level Caps
Each Pathfinder title pushes the hard cap up by a set amount. Here is the full list of titles and the level cap each one grants:
- Student I (Beginner Student) — Level cap: 25
- Student II (Intermediate Student) — Level cap: 35
- Student III (Veteran Student) — Level cap: 40
- Wayfarer I (Beginner Wayfarer / Junior Wayfarer) — Level cap: 45
- Wayfarer II — Level cap: 50
- Wayfarer III (Veteran Wayfarer) — Level cap: 55
- Trailblazer I — Level cap: 60
- Trailblazer II — Level cap: 65
These numbers are the cap that each title grants, not the exact character level you must hit before a promotion becomes available. Your Elite Training progress and its specific requirements are what decide when you can advance. Read them as targets to work toward, not as prerequisites to reach before you can start the chapter.
Each Title Promotion raises both your Character Level Cap and your Aniimo Level Cap at the same time by the same amount.

How to Increase Student Level in Aniimo
The process is the same for every promotion. Three stages, done in order, every time.
Stage 1: Complete Four Required Elite Training Objectives
Open your current Elite Training chapter from the main menu. Each chapter contains a list of training objectives covering different parts of the game — catching, exploration, combat, collecting badges, and more. You must complete at least four required objectives to unlock the Promotion Assessment for that chapter.
You do not have to complete every objective. The chapter tracks which ones are marked as required and which are optional. Focus on the required ones first. The optional objectives still give you rewards, so it is worth doing them, but they will not block your promotion if you skip them. Important: Elite Training objectives are never missable. If you skip one and move on to a later chapter, you can always come back and complete it later to claim its reward. Do not stress about clearing everything immediately.
Stage 2: Report to Dr. Lewis and Pass the Promotion Assessment
Once your four required objectives are done, head to Dr. Lewis at the Outpost. He is always there. Talk to him to trigger the Promotion Assessment mission for your current chapter. This is a practical test that confirms you have engaged with the game systems the chapter introduced.
Later chapters add extra gating tasks before the assessment opens. For example, the Student III promotion requires you to own two level 35 Aniimo with one trained to the Resonance Gamma stage, spend 150 Primegy, and defeat specific Alpha Aniimo including Alpha Tubster at the Argent Strait. The Core Course screen will show you exactly what is still blocking the assessment whenever you are unsure.
Stage 3: Answer the Theory Assessment and Claim Your New Title
After the Promotion Assessment is cleared, Dr. Lewis runs a short theory questionnaire — a few multiple-choice questions about what you have learned. Passing it gives you your new Pathfinder title, raises the hard cap, and hands you Report Cards.
Here are the confirmed answers for early promotions:
Student I promotion (first exam): All of the above — All of the above — All of the above
Student III promotion (Legacy’s Protection / battle against Jilly at Beast Fang Ridge): All of the above — All of the above — Defeat Alpha Aniimo
You will know the promotion worked when the Title Promotion panel appears showing both the Character Level Cap and the Aniimo Level Cap rising together. The new title is confirmed on the assessment-passed screen alongside your Report Card rewards.
How to Unlock Elite Training
Elite Training is not available from the very start of the game. It unlocks after you defeat and capture the Alpha Turbo at the end of the Chasing the Clouds main quest. After that, talk to Dr. Lewis to activate the feature.
Once unlocked, Elite Training becomes the core of your progression path from that point forward. Every level cap you hit from this point on requires going back to Elite Training and advancing through its chapters.

What Happens to Your EXP When You Hit a Cap
One thing that confuses a lot of players: hitting the level cap does not waste the EXP you keep earning. Your experience bar just overflows and is held in escrow. You might see something like 7000/3500 — that overflow is being saved. The moment you clear your next promotion, all that stored progress applies immediately and your level jumps forward.
This means it is worth continuing to do quests, daily activities, and exploration even when you are capped. The EXP is not being wasted. It is sitting there waiting for you to unlock the next tier.
Note: this escrow only works for character EXP. Aniimo EXP is not stored the same way, which is another reason to raise your cap quickly. Your creatures can start earning toward the new ceiling as soon as you are promoted.

What You Earn From Each Promotion
Promotions are not just about removing the level cap. Each one comes with real rewards and unlocks.
Report Cards
Every successful promotion gives you Report Cards. These are the talent points used to unlock active skills and passive talents for your Pathfinder. They cover things like traversal tools, healing, catching bonuses, combat buffs, and exploration tools. A promotion often opens a new talent tier at the same time, but the abilities are not purchased automatically — you choose which ones to unlock and upgrade.
You can also earn Report Cards from leveling your Aniilog, completing Journey Quests, and through the Elite Pathfinder Challenge. But promotions are the main source, especially early on.
To understand which talents are worth spending your Report Cards on first, check out our guide on the Aniimo element chart — knowing your elemental match-ups helps you decide which combat talents to prioritize.
Higher Level Cap for Both Character and Aniimo
The cap rises together for your Pathfinder and your entire team. A promotion from Student II to Student III raises both from 35 to 40 at the same time. You do not have to do anything extra for your creatures — they can start leveling toward the new ceiling as soon as the promotion is confirmed.
New Content and System Unlocks
Several important systems are gated behind specific promotions:
- Student I — Opens Elite Training, Events, the Institute Guide, the Shop, and the Season Hub.
- Student III (Veteran Student) — Unlocks the ability to purchase Aniipod Mega, Hyper, Track, and Tumblers from shops. Also unlocks Held Items and certain evolution paths.
- Wayfarer I (Junior Wayfarer) — Unlocks Aniimo Capability Awakening, the RV Level 11 Homeland upgrade, and allows you to claim your free Prismana Aniimo from the Prismana Pact event.
Getting to Wayfarer I quickly is important if you want your free Prismana. Check out our guide on which free Prismana to choose in Aniimo so you are ready to make that decision as soon as the promotion goes through.
What Is Research Level and Is It the Same as Student Level?
No. These are two completely different systems and they are not interchangeable.
Research Level tracks your knowledge of individual Aniimo families. It rises through Beginner, Adept, Veteran, and Expert ranks as you catch creatures, complete evolutions, obtain Elite, Sparkling, or Prismana forms, and report your findings through the Research Console at the Outpost.
Research rewards are family-specific. Developing your Research rank for one family can expand its accessory slots from one slot up to five. In some cases it also unlocks evolution paths for specific creatures. But raising Research will never remove a Pathfinder level cap. If your character has stopped leveling, Research is not the solution — Elite Training is.
Ways to increase your Research Level include:
- Catching Aniimo from specific families and uploading results at the Research Console
- Completing the ecological data file for each Aniimo by discovering information about their habitats and families
- Completing side objectives around the world and reporting them to the Outpost
- Obtaining Elite, Sparkling, or Prismana forms of creatures in specific families
You can develop Research alongside normal exploration without it costing you separate time. Just keep catching, reporting, and completing side content as you play. Tips to Progress Through Student Levels Faster
- Open Elite Training before you do anything else each session. Earlier catches, completed quests, and levels you earned before opening Elite Training may already have satisfied some objectives. Check first before going out to grind.
- Focus on the required objectives, not the optional ones. Four required objectives unlock the Promotion Assessment. You need all four, but you do not need to complete everything on the list. Identify the required ones and target them.
- Do objectives that give you EXP from multiple angles. Capturing Aniimo during Elite Training rewards you with both mission completion EXP and catch EXP at the same time. These are the most efficient objectives to prioritize.
- Do not skip your daily activities. Daily activities give up to 3,000 bonus EXP per day. That adds up fast, especially when you need to hit a level requirement before a promotion chapter unlocks. They also contribute to Companion Handbook progress at the same time.
- Complete Sanctuaries and Pathfinder Challenges. These give solid EXP boosts and also contribute to Elite Training objectives in some cases. Two birds with one stone.
- Defeat Alpha Aniimo whenever possible. Several Elite Training chapters require defeating specific Alphas as part of the promotion requirements. Getting used to hunting Alphas early means you will not get caught flat-footed by these requirements later.
- Do not hold off on hatching or catching new creatures. Building a broad collection satisfies multiple Elite Training objectives across different chapters and speeds up your Research Level at the same time. Our guide on how to get Aniimo eggs and hatch them is worth reading if you want to expand your collection quickly.
Talking to Aniimo NPCs in the field — which requires Twining with a same-family creature — is also tied to some Elite Training Core Course objectives. If you have not already read our guide on how to talk to Aniimo NPCs in Aniimo, that is worth checking before you run into a Core Course objective that requires it.
And if you want to cover ground faster between objective locations, check out how to fast travel in Aniimo — getting around the map efficiently saves a significant amount of time when you are working through multiple Elite Training objectives across different areas.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why has my EXP bar stopped filling in Aniimo?
You have hit your current Student Level hard cap. No amount of EXP grinding will push you past it. You need to complete your current Elite Training chapter, pass the Promotion Assessment with Dr. Lewis, and earn your next Pathfinder title to raise the cap.
What is the maximum level in Aniimo?
The current maximum level in the launch version is Level 70, reached at the Trailblazer II title. Reaching it requires progressing through all eight promotion stages from Student I to Trailblazer II via Elite Training.
How many Elite Training objectives do I need to complete to get a promotion?
You need to complete at least four required objectives per chapter to unlock the Promotion Assessment. Optional objectives give extra rewards but are not required to advance your Student Level.
Where is Dr. Lewis in Aniimo?
Dr. Lewis is always found at the Outpost. After completing the required Elite Training objectives for your current chapter, return to him there to trigger the Promotion Assessment and earn your next title.
What do Report Cards do in Aniimo?
Report Cards are talent points earned from promotions and other sources. You spend them on the Talents screen to unlock and upgrade active skills and passive talents for your Pathfinder, covering combat boosts, catching improvements, exploration tools, and more.
Does Research Level increase my Student Level?
No. Research Level and Student Level are entirely separate systems. Research tracks your knowledge of individual Aniimo families and grants family-specific rewards. It does not raise your level cap. Only Elite Training promotions can do that.
What happens to my EXP when I am at the level cap?
Your EXP is saved in escrow. It will not be wasted. Once you complete the next promotion and the hard cap rises, all the stored experience is applied instantly and your level jumps forward. Keep playing normally while capped — nothing is being lost.
What unlocks at Wayfarer I?
Reaching Wayfarer I (Junior Wayfarer) unlocks Aniimo Capability Awakening, the RV Level 11 Homeland upgrade, and the ability to claim your free Prismana Aniimo through the Prismana Pact event. It is one of the most important early promotions to work toward.
Can I miss Elite Training objectives?
No. Elite Training objectives are never missable. Even if you move on to a later chapter, you can always go back and complete earlier objectives to claim their rewards. There is no time limit or story point that locks them out.
What is the Lunara or Helion choice and does it affect Student Level?
Your starter Aniimo choice does not affect how you gain Student Levels, but the right starter can make early Elite Training chapters smoother. Check our guide on Lunara or Helion Aniimo starter if you are still deciding or want to understand the trade-offs.
Do I need to read the Twitch drops to progress through Student Levels faster?
Twitch drops give you bonus items that can help with resources and Aniipods, which indirectly speed up your progress through Elite Training objectives. Check out our guide on all Aniimo Twitch drops and how to claim them to make sure you are not missing free resources.
