Learn how to ping locations, items, and yourself in Elden Ring: Nightreign. Master the ping system to coordinate with teammates when voice chat isn’t an option.
Elden Ring: Nightreign leans heavily into co-op play, encouraging players to team up in groups of three to take on expeditions.
But here’s the catch: if you’re using the in-game matchmaking, there’s no way to talk to your random teammates.
That’s where the ping system comes in.
Whether you’re flagging an objective, pointing out loot, or just trying to say “let’s go this way,” pings are your lifeline in multiplayer.
Even if you can talk to your team, pings still come in clutch for staying organized and fast on your feet—especially when traversing Limveld before nightfall.
Here’s how to ping effectively both on the map and in-world items.
🗺️ How to Ping the Map in Elden Ring: Nightreign

You can ping freely on the map as many times as you want, with no limit—but only one ping can be active at a time per player.
🎮 Map Ping Controls:
- PlayStation: Press R3 while hovering over the location
- Xbox: Press Right Joystick
- PC: Click the Mouse Wheel
🔍 Key Details:
- Pings appear on both the map and your team’s compass.
- Each player has their own color-coded ping.
- If two players ping the same spot, the marker turns white, signaling a team consensus.
- To remove a ping, just hover over it and hit the same ping button again.
- New ping = auto-removes old ping.
When you’re close to a map ping, a beam of light will appear in the world to guide you.
🧭 How to Ping Items and Yourself
You can also ping items on the ground so your teammates can easily spot them. Perfect for sharing loot or flagging important gear.

🎮 Item Ping Controls:
- PlayStation: Hold Triangle, then press R3
- Xbox: Hold Y, then press Right Joystick
- PC: Press X
To ping an item:
- Stand over it and wait for the pick-up prompt.
- Use the button combo above.
Just like map pings, only one item ping can be active at a time. If you ping something new, the previous ping disappears.
👤 How to Ping Your Location
Want to let your teammates know where you are standing without pinging an item?
Use the same ping command, but when you’re not standing over anything, it’ll drop a player marker at your current spot, complete with your character icon.
Great for rallying the squad or saying, “Hey, I’m here—come help!”
✅ Quick Recap:
- One active ping per player—map or item.
- Pings show on both the map and compass.
- Nearby map pings emit a beam of light in the world.
- Item and self-pings help coordinate when words aren’t an option.
Using the ping system well can totally change how smoothly your expedition runs. Whether you’re showing your team a powerful Relic, pointing to the next boss arena, or just saying “regroup here,” good pings = good teamwork.
