I’ve been thinking about this one ever since Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Volume 3 dropped in Japan on May 1, 2026, and I genuinely cannot get over how well Gege Akutami stuck the landing on something most of us didn’t even realise was still incomplete. Gojo Satoru has been gone from the main story since Chapter 236. He was sealed, he died, and the world of Jujutsu Kaisen moved on. But his dream — the one he spelled out in Chapter 11 back in 2018, before most of us understood what JJK was actually building towards — that dream had never truly been fulfilled. Until now. Eight years later, through Yuji Itadori, Gojo Satoru’s character arc is finally, properly complete.
What Was Gojo’s Dream, Exactly?
To understand why this hits so hard, you have to go back to Chapter 11. This was the chapter titled “A Dream,” and it’s the chapter where Gege Akutami told us exactly who Gojo Satoru was underneath the blindfold and the bored smirks. He wasn’t just the strongest. He was a man on a mission.
Gojo laid it out plainly — he wanted to hit reset on the entire sorcerer world. The corrupt higher-ups at Jujutsu HQ had been running the society like a rigged system for generations, sacrificing the weak to maintain their power and allowing talented young sorcerers to be ground up by a machine that never cared about them. Gojo knew he could kill the people at the top. That was easy for him. But he also knew that simply removing those people would change nothing, because the rot was systemic. The next batch of corrupt elders would just slide right in.
So instead of violence, Gojo chose education. He became a teacher. Not because he wanted the job, but because he wanted to raise a generation of sorcerers who could genuinely tell right from wrong and fix the world properly — not temporarily. That was the dream. Raise strong and clever comrades who would eventually take over and do it right.
Why Gojo’s Arc Felt Incomplete After His Death
When Gojo died in the Shinjuku Showdown arc, the emotional gut punch was undeniable. But for a lot of readers, including me, there was something unresolved sitting underneath it. His death happened before the dream was fully realised. The Jujutsu Society was being dismantled, yes, but we hadn’t seen it rebuilt. Yuji was still finding himself. The higher-ups were gone, but the structure of what would replace them wasn’t fully drawn yet.
Gojo’s character had incredible moments — the Hidden Inventory arc, his fight against Toji, the Prison Realm sacrifice, and obviously the Chapter 236 showdown — but the completeness of his arc as a mentor and a reformer was always dangling. He planted seeds. We just never got to see them fully bloom in the original series.

What Modulo Volume 3 Finally Delivers
JJK Modulo is set 68 years after the conclusion of the Shinjuku Showdown Raid. The world Gojo always dreamed of is now visible — a council of Jujutsu sorcerers collectively making major decisions rather than a shadowy group of corrupt elders operating in the dark. This was first shown in Chapter 14 of the Modulo manga, released on December 8, 2025, during the deliberation around the Simurian warrior Dabura. The power structure Gojo despised is gone. What replaced it actually resembles the kind of system he was trying to build.
But the real completion of Gojo’s arc comes through Yuji Itadori’s choices in Chapter 25 of Modulo, included in Volume 3. Yuji reaches out to Nobara Kugisaki because he recognises something about himself that took him decades to confront — he had lost his way, and in doing so, forgotten what he was supposed to be protecting. The language here is deliberate and it directly echoes Gojo’s Chapter 11 speech. Yuji had all the power in the world, but he needed to remember that power is meaningless without the right purpose behind it.
His solution? Mass-producing the cursed tools from the Gojo Clan inventory and using them to raise the next generation of Heavenly Restriction-type warriors who emerge in a world with drastically reduced cursed energy. Rather than leaving those new sorcerers without guidance, Yuji — together with Aoi Todo — takes on the teacher role. He becomes the mentor figure his own mentor always was. He becomes Gojo.
Yuji Itadori — Gojo’s Perfect Successor
In Chapter 271 of the original manga, officially released on September 17, 2024, Gojo’s last words to Yuji were pointed. He told him to stop seeking the same kind of strength as his own, and to find something different. He expected great things. At the time, it read like a farewell. Looking at it now through the lens of Modulo Volume 3, it reads more like an instruction manual.
Yuji didn’t copy Gojo. He evolved Gojo’s philosophy. Where Gojo worked within a world saturated with cursed energy and corrupt power structures, Yuji is actively redesigning the world from the ground up — reducing cursed energy as much as possible and then building an army of kind-hearted protectors to handle what’s left. The goal is the same as what Gojo always wanted: protect the innocent, stop the cycle of sacrifice, raise people who can tell right from wrong.
Gege Akutami confirmed in the Volume 3 author notes that Yuji’s prolonged lifespan — estimated at around 300 more years — is a result of him having absorbed the Death Paintings 4 through 9 during the timeskip, making him a hybrid between a curse and a human that ages at a dramatically slowed rate. This means Yuji has the time to actually see his dream through. Not just plant seeds like Gojo did, but water them, grow them, and watch them bear fruit across three centuries. The tragedy of Riko Amanai — the sacrifice that broke young Gojo and fuelled everything that came after — is the thing Yuji has sworn to prevent from ever happening again.
Gojo’s Legacy Is Now Untouchable
Sixty-eight years after his death, Gojo Satoru is still being talked about in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen as a legend. Chapter 25 of Modulo makes this clear — his defeat of Mahoraga is still referenced with reverence by the sorcerers of the modern era. The Six Eyes, the Limitless, the first person born with both in four hundred years. His birth alone shook the power balance of the world. His life changed it permanently.
He saved Yuta Okkotsu from death and gave him a reason to keep living. He shielded Yuji from execution and set him on the path that eventually led to Sukuna’s defeat. He went toe-to-toe with the King of Curses and made every single fight after that possible. Without Gojo’s efforts in those final chapters leading up to 236, the victory in Shinjuku never happens. And beyond the battles, he dismantled Jujutsu HQ, clearing the way for the young generation to rebuild the society properly.
Officially confirmed as a Special Grade Sorcerer in Volume 3, Yuji is now described as the new strongest in the Modulo era — the next name that future generations will speak about the way they speak about Gojo. Gege Akutami even structured Yuji’s successor in Miyaguni, trained by Yuji and Todo together, as the next link in a chain that stretches all the way back to Gojo’s decision to stand in front of a classroom rather than in front of the people he could have easily killed.
Eight Years Was Worth the Wait
Looking back at Chapter 11 from 2018 and then looking at Modulo Volume 3 from 2026, what Gege Akutami pulled off here is genuinely impressive long-game storytelling. Gojo’s dream was never going to be completed in his lifetime — that was always the point. The tragedy of his character is that the person who could have changed the world the fastest chose the slower, harder, more meaningful path. He chose education. He chose investment in other people over the shortcut of personal power.
And now, through Yuji Itadori, that path has delivered exactly what Gojo always hoped it would. A restructured society. A new generation raised with the right values. A mentor in the mould of the greatest teacher Jujutsu Kaisen ever had. Gojo Satoru’s character arc is complete — not because he won a fight or lived to see his dream realised, but because he raised someone who carried it forward without being asked to. That’s what makes the whole thing land so perfectly.
