Krispy Kreme is celebrating Pokémon’s 30th anniversary with a six-donut limited-edition collection launching on August 18, 2026 exclusively at US and Canadian locations. Five of the donuts are themed after specific Pokémon — all three Generation 1 starters plus Pikachu and Jigglypuff — with the sixth being a classic Poké Ball interpretation. Pre-orders for the full 12-pack Specialty Dozen are already open on the Krispy Kreme website, suggesting the company is expecting serious demand and potentially some scalping pressure on this one.
If you want to get ahead of the rush, pre-ordering online is the smart move. For everyone else, participating Krispy Kreme locations will have them available from August 18 onward for a limited time with no confirmed end date.
Every Pokémon Donut and What’s Inside
Here’s the full breakdown of all six donuts in the collection:
- Bulbasaur Donut — An Original Glazed donut dipped in vanilla flavoured icing, topped with frosting and a Bulbasaur piece. The most straightforward of the bunch — clean, vanilla-forward, and topped with Bulbasaur who absolutely deserves more respect than he gets.
- Charmander Donut — An unglazed shell donut with chocolate and toasted marshmallow flavoured filling, dipped in orange-coloured caramel icing with sparks of red and gold sugar, and topped with a Charmander piece. The most ambitious flavour combination of the set — the toasted marshmallow and chocolate filling against orange caramel icing is genuinely creative for a themed donut release.
- Squirtle Donut — An Original Glazed donut piped with cotton candy flavoured buttercreme, dipped in sanding sugar and nonpareils, and topped with a surfing Squirtle piece. The surfing Squirtle is a deliberate nod to the Squirtle Squad’s most iconic look, and the cotton candy buttercreme makes this one the most immediately kid-friendly option.
- Pikachu Donut — An unglazed shell filled with lemon flavoured Kreme filling, dipped in vanilla icing, decorated with electrifying drizzle and nonpareils, and topped with a Pikachu piece. Lemon filling is a Krispy Kreme classic, and the yellow colour scheme makes the Pikachu theming work without having to stretch too far. The “electrifying drizzle” detail is doing a lot of visual lifting here.
- Jigglypuff Donut — An Original Glazed donut piped with strawberry flavoured buttercreme, sprinkled with strawberry flavoured cookie crumble, and topped with a Jigglypuff piece. Strawberry on strawberry is a bold flavour call, and Jigglypuff’s pink design gives Krispy Kreme a natural colour palette to work with. The cookie crumble adds texture that the other donuts mostly skip.
- Poké Ball Donut — An Original Glazed donut dipped in vanilla flavoured icing and red sprinkles, piped with chocolate icing to recreate the Poké Ball’s classic design. The cleanest and most recognisable design of the set — and the one most likely to photograph well for the inevitable social media wave this collection is going to generate.
Where to Buy and What Packs Are Available
The collection is available in a few different formats depending on where you’re shopping:
- Individual donuts — available at participating Krispy Kreme stores and through the Krispy Kreme app
- Specialty Dozen Pack (12-pack) — the full collection at select Krispy Kreme stores, comes with a special limited-edition Pokémon box. Pre-orders are already live at krispykreme.com
- Six-pack at retail — available at Walmart, Kroger, Publix, and other select grocery retailers, but this version substitutes the Squirtle and Bulbasaur donuts for plain glazed donuts. If you specifically want the full Pokémon lineup, you’ll need to go directly to a Krispy Kreme location or order through the app
Krispy Kreme is also releasing five different Pokémon-themed cups for serving its Original Glazed Gold Dots — its version of donut holes. The cups are themed but the Gold Dots themselves are standard, so this is more of a packaging collectible than a flavour addition.
The Free Donut Deal on August 22
Here’s the one worth putting in your calendar. On Saturday, August 22, anyone who walks into a participating Krispy Kreme location wearing Pokémon merchandise will receive a free Original Glazed donut. The freebie isn’t one of the Pokémon-themed donuts — it’s a standard Original Glazed — but a free donut is a free donut, and the bar for qualifying is pretty low given how much Pokémon merchandise exists across clothing, accessories, and bags. Check the Krispy Kreme website for participating locations before making the trip.
The Scalping Problem Krispy Kreme Is Already Preparing For
The fact that Krispy Kreme opened pre-orders for the 12-pack before the collection has even launched tells you everything you need to know about what the company expects to happen. The Pokémon scalping ecosystem has expanded well beyond trading cards in 2026, with limited Pokémon collaborations from Target and other major retailers consistently selling out within hours of launch and appearing on resale platforms at significant markups.
Pre-ordering the Specialty Dozen online is the most reliable way to guarantee you get the full set without competing with people buying multiple packs to flip. The no-confirmed-end-date framing in the press release also suggests Krispy Kreme may be planning to restock based on demand rather than running a strict timed window — which would be a smart move for a food product that can’t realistically be hoarded the way physical merchandise can.
Part of a Much Bigger 30th Anniversary Year
The Krispy Kreme collaboration is one piece of a very full Pokémon 30th anniversary calendar that’s been running throughout 2026. The year has already seen Puma launch a Sun and Moon-inspired 30th anniversary apparel collection, a set of deluxe character guide books, and 20 Pokémon-themed LEGO sets spanning iconic Pokémon from across the franchise’s history. Later in 2026, the Pokémon Trading Card Game is getting a dedicated 30th anniversary product drop that’s expected to be one of the year’s most sought-after TCG releases.
A donut collab fits comfortably in that lineup as the most immediately accessible and lowest-barrier-to-entry anniversary item — no scalping queues, no limited allocation per customer, no lottery system. You just walk in, buy a donut, and eat it. For a franchise that has spent 2026 navigating the increasingly fraught relationship between fan enthusiasm and reseller culture, Krispy Kreme’s model is refreshingly uncomplicated.
