Want the Akaviri Katana in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered? Here’s how to get your hands on this iconic Blade weapon early and grab extras for enchantments.

Slice Through Tamriel: How to Get the Akaviri Katana in Oblivion Remastered

The Akaviri Katana is one of the most iconic and powerful early-game weapons in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. Wielded by the Blades—Emperor Uriel Septim’s elite guards—it’s tied directly into the main questline and a must-have for any sword-loving hero.

If you’re looking to start your adventure with this sleek, deadly weapon, you’ll need to follow a few story beats first. Here’s a full guide on how to get your first Akaviri Katana, plus where to find spares for enchantments or dual-wield dreams.

How to Get Your First Akaviri Katana

During the Tutorial quest, as you escape the Imperial Prison with Emperor Uriel Septim, one of the Blades is killed by Mythic Dawn assassins. She drops her Akaviri Katana, and you can pick it up right away.

But—plot twist—you’ll have to hand it over to Baurus later in the quest, so it’s more of a temporary taste than a permanent weapon.

How to Get the Akaviri Katana

Getting a Permanent Akaviri Katana

To score your own Akaviri Katana, start pushing through the main quest:

  1. Deliver the Amulet of Kings to Jauffre at Weynon Priory.
  2. Complete “Find the Heir” and “Breaking the Siege of Kvatch.”
  3. After defending Castle Kvatch, escort Martin back to Weynon Priory.
  4. Fend off another Mythic Dawn attack and get your first horse—nice bonus!
  5. Travel with Jauffre and Martin to Cloud Ruler Temple.

Once you arrive at Cloud Ruler Temple and agree to join the Blades, you’re in! You’ll be granted access to the Barracks, and that’s where you’ll find your shiny new Akaviri Katana.

Where to Find More Akaviri Katanas

Inside Cloud Ruler Temple:

  • Western Barracks: One Akaviri Katana on a table.
  • Eastern Armory: A couple more Akaviri Katanas and a Two-Handed Akaviri Dai-Katana.

The Dai-Katana packs a punch and has extra reach, but the regular Katana is faster and more versatile. Take your pick based on your playstyle—or grab both and keep your options open.

You can also enchant these blades at any Mages Guild Altar of Enchantment to give them some extra firepower.

The Ancient Akaviri Katana – Even Better

Later in the main questline, when you’re sent to Sancre Tor during “Blood of the Divines”, you’ll have a shot at grabbing the Ancient Akaviri Katana. This version is stronger and capable of hitting invisible or incorporeal enemies like Ghosts, Wisps, and Specters—super handy in the late game.

Whether you’re slicing through bandits or taking on Daedra, the Akaviri Katana gets the job done—especially if your Blade skill is high. That boosts your damage, increases bleeding, and helps you cut through armor like butter.

Bottom line: this sword’s got style and substance. Don’t miss your chance to grab it early and make it your signature weapon.
