Pokemon Go Remote Trading: Trade Anywhere with Friends
Pokemon Go players have been waiting years for this: remote trading is finally here, letting you swap Pokemon with friends no matter where you are. The feature started rolling out on December 8, 2025, beginning in New Zealand, with the rest of the world to follow soon.
How Remote Trading Works in Pokemon Go
Remote trading unlocks once you and your friend reach Forever Friends status—the level above Best Friends. Here’s the simple process:
- Both create a wishlist of up to 3 Pokemon you’d like to receive.
- Pick one Pokemon from each other’s wishlist to offer.
- Review the trade details and confirm—or back out if needed.
You can only have one active Remote Trade per Forever Friend at a time, but earning more friendship points through interactions unlocks additional slots. Niantic is also bumping the max friends list from 450 to 650 over the coming weeks.
Pokemon Go Remote Trading Limitations
Not every Pokemon is eligible for remote trades. These can’t be included:
- Pokemon caught in the last 30 days
- Previously traded Pokemon
- Shadow Pokemon
- Mythical Pokemon
- Pokemon defending Gyms or Power Spots
- Your current buddy Pokemon
- Actively Mega-Evolved Pokemon
- Fused Pokemon
- Crowned Sword Zacian and Crowned Shield Zamazenta
- Pokemon at Pokemon Playgrounds
Tip: Build your Forever Friend relationships early by exchanging gifts daily and raiding together—it’s the key to unlocking remote trades without travel hassles.
