If you’ve been waiting for a reason to jump back into Pokemon Pokopia, Niantic and The Pokemon Company just gave you one. The Wish Upon a Jirachi limited-time event is right around the corner, and it’s bringing one of the most beloved Mythical Pokemon into the game for the first time — along with a whole new currency, exclusive decor, and some serious FOMO energy since Niantic quietly patched out the time-travel exploit right before this dropped.
Pokemon Pokopia Wish Upon a Jirachi Event Dates
The event runs from June 23, 2026 at 5:00 AM local time through July 8, 2026 at 4:59 AM local time. That gives you just about two weeks to get everything done, so don’t sleep on it. Jirachi will not be available outside of this event window, and right now The Pokemon Company hasn’t confirmed whether players who miss it will get another shot at the content later.
One important heads-up: you’ll need version 1.1.0 installed and an active internet connection to participate. That online requirement wasn’t always there — and it’s directly tied to Niantic patching a popular exploit that let players skip the Switch 2’s internal clock forward to access future events early. That loophole is closed now, so there’s no getting Jirachi ahead of schedule.
How the Wish Upon a Jirachi Event Works
The event mechanics follow a familiar loop that Pokopia fans will recognize, but the star of the show here is obviously Jirachi making its debut in the game. Here’s how the whole thing plays out:
- Step 1 — Talk to Jirachi: Head to a fully rebuilt Pokemon Center in any of your towns. Jirachi will appear there and kick off the event by giving you a crafting recipe for Wish Notes.
- Step 2 — Craft and Collect: Use a workbench to craft Wish Notes, then go interact with other Pokemon in your towns and fulfill their requests. Doing so transforms your Wish Notes into Sparkling Wish Notes.
- Step 3 — Redeem at the Pokemon Center: Take your Sparkling Wish Notes back to Jirachi at the Pokemon Center and exchange them for exclusive Starry Sky-themed furniture and decor.
The star-themed reward set is genuinely nice-looking — we’re talking a full bedroom suite with a bed, wardrobe, vanity, table, lamp, rug, telescope, wall art, clock, and more, all styled around the night sky aesthetic that fits Jirachi perfectly. It’s the kind of decor that’s going to look great in any town layout.
The Pokemon Center Requirement — Don’t Get Caught Off Guard
This is the part that trips up newer players: Jirachi will only appear in towns that have a fully rebuilt Pokemon Center. If you haven’t completed construction on at least one Pokemon Center in your game world, Jirachi straight-up won’t show up. With two weeks on the clock, there’s time to get it done, but if you’ve been putting off rebuilding, now’s the time to prioritize it. Note also that Jirachi can only appear in your main areas — not on a Cloud Island.
Why Jirachi Is a Bigger Deal Than Usual
Pokopia has had limited-time event Pokemon before — Hoppip and Sableye both showed up through similar note-collection events — but Jirachi is a step above. It’s a Mythical Pokemon, and Mythicals in any Pokemon game are always a rarer, more exciting addition than your standard encounter. Jirachi originally debuted back in Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire and has been a fan favorite ever since, so this event is going to pull back some players who may have been taking a break.
This is also the fourth live event in Pokopia and notably the first one that wasn’t already baked into the game’s launch data — meaning this event truly required a new update rather than just unlocking content that was already sitting there. That’s a good sign for the long-term health of the game. It means Niantic is actively building new content rather than coasting on what shipped at launch.
What’s Coming After the Jirachi Event
The summer roadmap for Pokopia is stacking up nicely. The Wish Upon a Jirachi event bridges the gap until the bigger August content drop, which is shaping up to be a major expansion. A free update in August will introduce the Dive mechanic, letting players explore underwater areas, plant grass on the ocean floor, build structures beneath the sea, and create entirely new underwater towns. That’s a huge gameplay addition that opens up the map in a way the base game doesn’t.
Alongside that free update, the first paid expansion in the Expansion Pass introduces Bubbly Basin, a new underwater town that leans heavily into Water-type Pokemon. And yes — Manaphy is confirmed to be part of that DLC, appearing in Bubbly Basin as another Mythical Pokemon making its Pokopia debut. A second paid expansion follows later in 2026, with a third and final one arriving in 2027.
On the hardware side, a Nintendo Switch 2 bundle including Pokemon Pokopia was just confirmed for Europe, launching July 2 — the same bundle that already went to Australia and New Zealand in early June. North America doesn’t have a dedicated bundle yet, but players there can still grab it through the Nintendo Switch 2 You Choose bundle alongside Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza.
Pokopia has been one of the biggest Nintendo Switch 2 launch wins, selling millions of copies and building a genuinely passionate playerbase since its March release. Events like Wish Upon a Jirachi are exactly what keeps that momentum going between major updates. If you’re already in, make sure your Pokemon Center is rebuilt before June 23. If you’ve been on the fence about picking the game up, the growing event calendar and confirmed DLC roadmap make now a pretty solid time to jump in.
