Wave Two of PS Plus September Is Live — Here’s What Just Dropped

If you’ve been hovering over the PS Plus catalog waiting for today, September 15, the wait is over. The second wave of PS Plus Extra and Premium additions for September 2026 has officially gone live, and it’s a solid one. Four titles dropped today across the Extra and Premium tiers, led by two same-day releases in RuneScape: Dragonwilds and WWE 2K26, alongside two classics exclusive to Premium subscribers.

This is the second batch of the month — Date Everything! kicked things off on September 9 as a standalone first drop. September’s full content schedule is running on the staggered rollout model Sony has been using for the US, UK, and Japan, while other regions received the complete September lineup in one shot. Two more waves remain before October arrives, so there’s still plenty to look forward to even after today’s additions.

RuneScape: Dragonwilds — The Headliner and a Historic Console First

Let’s start with the one that genuinely matters as a piece of gaming history. RuneScape: Dragonwilds is not just another PS Plus addition — it’s the first RuneScape game to ever launch on a PlayStation console in the franchise’s 25-year existence. For a name that defined PC gaming in the early 2000s and built one of the most dedicated player communities in MMORPG history, that’s actually a big deal.

This isn’t the classic MMORPG most people associate with the name, though. Dragonwilds is a separate spin-off — a cooperative survival crafting RPG developed by Jagex and set on Ashenfall, a forgotten continent within the RuneScape universe where dragons have awakened after a long dormancy. The gameplay loop is what you’d expect from the genre in 2026: gather resources, build shelters, craft gear, level skills, and push toward a final confrontation with the Dragon Queen. It supports up to four players online, and it also has a solo mode for players who prefer to go at it alone.

What sets it apart from the survival crafting crowd is the RuneScape DNA running through everything. The progression feels familiar to anyone who spent time in the original MMORPG — skills level up as you use them, quests are woven throughout the world, and the lore ties directly into the broader RuneScape universe. The soundtrack reorchestrates classic RuneScape music alongside new compositions, which is a nice touch for longtime fans who grew up with those tracks.

The game spent over a year in Steam Early Access starting in April 2025 and sold over a million copies on PC before today’s 1.0 launch. Executive Producer Jesse America has described the development as deeply community-driven, with every Early Access update shaped by player feedback. The full 1.0 release includes the new Scorned Wilderness update alongside all previously released Early Access content. PS5 Pro Enhanced support is included, and DualSense haptics and trigger effects are supported for console players. The fact that it’s landing on PS Plus Extra and Premium as a day-one release — at a $29.99 retail value — makes it one of the stronger day-one PS Plus additions of the year.

WWE 2K26 — Worth It Now That It’s on the Subscription

The other Extra/Premium addition today is WWE 2K26, which launched back on March 13, 2026 at the standard $69.99 price point. Six months later, it’s now available to all Extra and Premium subscribers, which is an excellent value proposition for anyone who skipped it at launch and was waiting for exactly this moment.

The game landed with a 79 on OpenCritic and an 80 on Metacritic — respectable scores for a wrestling title, and a meaningful step up from some of the franchise’s rougher years. The general critical consensus was that WWE 2K26 refines the formula built over the past few years without reinventing it, and that’s probably the right approach for an annual sports franchise. Reviews pointed to solid in-ring gameplay, a sprawling roster of 400+ playable WWE Superstars, and the CM Punk Showcase mode as highlights.

The big new addition in this year’s entry is the WWE Draft finally making it into Universe Mode — the sandbox experience where players control their own weekly shows, rivalries, and match outcomes. Fans have been requesting that feature for years, and its inclusion alongside a Universe Creation Wizard and improved Money in the Bank cash-in mechanics makes this year’s Universe Mode the deepest it’s ever been. The Island mode returns with updates, and MyFACTION gets a Quick Swap team-based variant for faster online play. If you’ve been waiting for PS Plus to make WWE 2K26 a no-brainer pickup, today is that day.

The Premium-Exclusive Classics: Mega Man X: Command Mission and Metro Redux

Premium subscribers get two additional games today in the form of classic titles — one from 2004 and one from 2014.

The older of the two is Mega Man X: Command Mission, a tactical RPG spin-off from Capcom’s iconic action platformer series that originally launched in 2004. It’s a genuinely interesting piece of the Mega Man legacy — the game transplants the X-series characters into a full-blown JRPG framework complete with turn-based combat, party management, and a story-driven campaign. It’s not a game most people talk about when they discuss their Mega Man favorites, but it has a cult following among fans who found it through the GameCube or PS2. The PS5 and PS4 compatible version is now available for Premium subscribers to dig into.

Alongside it is Metro Redux, the 2014 two-in-one package that bundles remakes and remasters of Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light. Both games are atmospheric post-apocalyptic shooters set in the tunnels of the Moscow Metro following a nuclear war, developed by 4A Games. They’re some of the most immersive and distinctive first-person shooters of their era — survival-focused, ammo-scarce, and genuinely tense in a way that the bigger shooter franchises rarely achieve. Metro Redux holds an 82 on OpenCritic and a user rating of 4.63 out of 5 across the PS Plus catalog, which tells you this one has held up extremely well. Premium subscribers who haven’t played the Metro series have a great entry point here — or a solid excuse to replay it.

What’s Still Coming in September: The Full Remaining Schedule

September isn’t done delivering. Two more waves of PS Plus additions are still on the way before October takes over.

On September 22, Extra and Premium subscribers will get access to Ball x Pit and Slitterhead. Ball x Pit is a roguelite dungeon crawler set in the ruins of Ballbylon — a quirky, highly rated gem that earned an 86 on OpenCritic and a 4.73 user rating, putting it among the best-reviewed titles in this month’s lineup. Slitterhead is the horror action game from Keiichiro Toyama, creator of Silent Hill and the Gravity Rush series, which launched in November 2024 and sits at a 65 on OpenCritic — mixed reviews but a distinctive visual style and a passionate niche audience.

The month closes out on September 29 with three final additions. Dungeons of Hinterberg is a 2024 action RPG that blends Austrian alpine vibes with dungeon-crawling — it earned an 81 on OpenCritic and has a user rating of 4.68, making it another strong pickup. Sniper Elite: Resistance, the January 2025 stealth shooter, rounds out the trio alongside the genuinely exciting addition of Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound — the 2025 side-scrolling Ninja Gaiden that scored an 86 on OpenCritic and is widely regarded as one of the best entries in the franchise in years.

When all three waves have landed, September 2026 will have added two classics and eight multi-tier titles to the PS Plus catalog — matching the volume of August 2026’s lineup and making it one of the more content-heavy months of the year for subscribers.

Looking Ahead: October Essential Games Reveal Is Coming

For PS Plus Essential subscribers who are wondering what’s next on the free monthly games front, the wait isn’t much longer. Based on Sony’s usual cadence, the October 2026 Essential games announcement is expected on September 30, with those titles becoming claimable on the first Tuesday of October — which falls on October 6.

Essential games are available across all three subscription tiers (Essential, Extra, and Premium) and are available to claim and keep in your library as long as you maintain an active PS Plus subscription. The September Essential games remain claimable until that October batch replaces them, so if you haven’t grabbed this month’s Essential titles yet, now’s the time.

It’s shaping up to be a genuinely packed stretch of gaming content across the board. Beyond PS Plus, today alone has seen Marvel’s Wolverine launch on PS5 (with Insomniac responding to the mixed reception), World of Warcraft: Forever’s beta kicking off in two days, and Discord going down for much of the day — a fitting reminder that even the infrastructure holding gaming communities together has rough patches. On a lighter note, Jujutsu Kaisen Rumble: Survivaton pushed to 2027 earlier, so the PS Plus catalog getting Dragonwilds as a day-one title is at least one piece of good news for anyone who needed it today. And for UK Pokemon fans still waiting on their Pokemon TCG 30th Celebration pre-orders, the subscription gaming side of things is at least going smoothly by comparison.
