The Care Center Basement in Resident Evil Requiem holds one of the most valuable safes in the entire game — but it’s also one of the easiest to miss entirely. The combination is hidden somewhere you’ve already been as Leon, you can only open the safe as Grace, and if you leave the Basement without cracking it, it’s gone until your next playthrough. If you’ve found the safe near the forklift and have no idea what the code is or where to look for it, this guide covers everything: the exact combination, how the clue system works, how to reach the safe, and what’s waiting inside.
Resident Evil Requiem Basement Safe Code (Standard / Casual / Classic)
Right 60 — Left 40 — Right 80
That’s the complete combination for the Care Center Basement safe on Casual, Standard (Modern), and Standard (Classic) difficulties. Spin the dial counterclockwise to 60, then clockwise to 40, then counterclockwise to 80. Only attempt to open the safe after completing all three turns — pulling the handle mid-sequence resets the input entirely.
Basement Safe Code for Insanity Mode
Left 70 — Right 50 — Left 20
Insanity Mode uses a completely different set of numbers for every safe in the game. If you’re on your second or third playthrough and the standard code isn’t working, make sure you’ve selected the right combination for your difficulty.
Where Is the Basement Safe in RE9?
The Basement safe is located in a small side office on the northwest side of the Care Center Basement, near the Forklift in the Inspection area. You can’t access this room until you have a Joint Plug to power up the locked door in the Furnace room. Here’s how to get there step by step:
- From the Security Room save point in the Basement, head west
- Use a Joint Plug on the door in the Furnace room to open it
- Follow the corridor west past the Furnace into the area with the Forklift
- Look for a small office or tool room to the side, just opposite the Forklift
- The safe is on a table inside that room
You will not be able to reach the Basement during Grace’s first pass through the Care Center. This area only becomes accessible after the story shifts to Leon’s perspective and then switches back to Grace. If the door to the Basement area is still locked when you arrive, check our guide on Care Center Fuse Location in RE9 for help with the Joint Plug and power mechanics in that section.

Where to Find the Basement Safe Code Clue
Here’s where things get a little tricky. Grace cannot find the Basement Safe Code on her own. The file that reveals the combination — titled “File: Basement Safe Code” — is located in the Attic Storage area, which is only accessible during Leon’s segment of the Care Center.
During Leon’s section, after the Chunk boss encounter, make your way down the long corridor toward the exit. Before you leave, look for a warped cabinet (Warped Closet) in the Attic Storage. Use Leon’s Hatchet to pry it open — the Basement Safe Code file is inside. Once Leon reads it, the clue is saved to the shared inventory and Grace can reference it when she reaches the Basement.
This clue is missable. Once Leon’s segment ends and you return to playing as Grace, she cannot go back to the Attic Storage. If Leon never opens that warped cabinet, Grace will arrive at the Basement safe with no combination in her notes. That’s why we’ve included the code at the top of this guide — you can open the safe without ever finding the file, as long as you have the numbers.

How to Enter the Safe Combination
If you’re new to combination safes in Resident Evil Requiem, here’s exactly how the input system works:
- Right / Counterclockwise — Press right on the D-pad (or rotate the analog stick right) to spin the dial counterclockwise toward your target number
- Left / Clockwise — Press left on the D-pad (or rotate the analog stick left) to spin the dial clockwise toward your target number
- Spin until the dial lands precisely on the number shown in the combination
- Do not press the “Check” or open button between turns — complete all three dial movements first, then attempt to open the safe
- If you pull the handle or press Check mid-sequence, the lock resets and you must start over from the first number
For the Basement safe on Standard difficulty: spin counterclockwise to 60, then clockwise to 40, then counterclockwise to 80, then open.
What’s Inside the Basement Safe?
The Basement safe contains two rewards:
Raccoon Roundup Map (Rhodes Hill) — This is the big one. The Raccoon Roundup Map automatically marks the location of every Mr. Raccoon Memoriam statue in the Care Center areas directly on your in-game map. If you’re going for full collectible completion in the Care Center, this map is invaluable. There’s a catch though: once Grace leaves Rhodes Hill, she cannot return to the main Care Center. Any Mr. Raccoon statues you haven’t collected at that point are locked out until your next playthrough. Open this safe and use the map before you leave.
10x Handgun Ammo — A useful ammo top-up for Grace, who often finds herself running low during the Care Center’s latter sections.
Important Warning: Don’t Leave Without Opening It
Because Resident Evil Requiem has no chapter select, the Basement safe is effectively a timed opportunity. Once Grace exits the Care Center and the story moves on, there’s no going back to the Basement. Missing the Raccoon Roundup Map in particular makes the Mr. Raccoon collectible hunt significantly harder — you’ll be relying on memory or external guides for the rest of your run rather than having them pinpointed on your map automatically.
If you want to keep the door open (literally), keep a manual save before entering the Basement. The game provides 12 manual save slots for exactly this reason, and spreading saves across major areas is the closest thing RE9 has to a chapter select system.
All Other Safe Codes in RE9
The Basement safe is one of three safes in the Care Center. If you’re working through all of them, here are the other two:
Bar & Lounge Safe — Found on the bar counter in the West Wing’s Bar & Lounge area on the 2nd floor. The code is Left 10, Right 80, Left 30 on Standard difficulty. The clue is on a desk in the West Wing 2F Office. Reward: 3 Antique Coins. Full details in our Bar Lounge Safe Code guide.
Examination Room Safe — Found in the Examination Room in the East Wing. The code is Right 30, Left 10, Right 50 on Standard difficulty. The clue is in the blood-stained locker room near the Lead Researcher’s Office. Reward: 3 Antique Coins. Full details in our Examination Room Safe Code guide.
Opening all five safes in the game (including two in the later ARK section) unlocks the “No Safe Is Safe” trophy and achievement.
How Long Will It Take You to Reach the Basement?
The Care Center Basement comes fairly late in Grace’s time at Rhodes Hill — you’ll have already worked through the West Wing, East Wing, and found the Level 1 ID Wristband before the story sends you down there. If you’re wondering roughly how far into the game you are, our Resident Evil Requiem: How Long Does It Take to Beat RE9 guide gives a full breakdown of the game’s pacing and total playtime across every difficulty.
Before heading into the Basement, make sure you’ve also picked up the Level 1 ID Wristband — it’s essential for opening security-locked doors throughout the Care Center and will save you a lot of backtracking. And if you’re still navigating the Isolation Ward section of the Care Center, our Isolation Ward guide will point you in the right direction.
