TL;DR – Star Wars Galactic Racer Tips at a Glance

    • Survival beats podiums — finishing is always more important than first place early on.
    • Cornering and Resilience first — they keep you alive when things go wrong.
    • Afterburner ≠ Ramjet — learn the difference or you’ll blow up your engine mid-race.
    • Tuning Points are permanent — spend them wisely; they follow you across every run.
    • Always place Sidebets — free Credits and eventually unlock powerful Favors.
    • Use Arcade Mode to practice — it’s there, it’s free, and it saves you losing League Tokens in the campaign.
    • Plan your Tour route before choosing an event — the branching path matters more than individual race results.

Star Wars Galactic Racer is one of those games that looks like a straightforward racer until you’re an hour in and wondering why you keep running out of League Tokens. The roguelite campaign is genuinely smart, but it does ask more of you than most arcade racers. These tips will help you actually understand what’s going on — so you spend less time spinning out and more time putting Kestar Bool in your rear-view mirror.

    STAR WARS Galactic Racer

Tip 1 – Finishing Races Matters More Than Winning Them

This one sounds obvious until you lose your third League Token trying to force an overtake on the final corner. The campaign is structured as a series of runs. Lose all your League Tokens and the run ends — everything you built that session is gone.

On standard Pilot difficulty, you get three crashes per race before it starts costing you a League Token. Finishing fifth with three crashes remaining is significantly better than finishing first with zero. That’s not cowardice — that’s how this game is designed to be played.

    • Drive conservatively when your crash allowance is running low
    • Don’t force risky overtakes for just one or two positions
    • Mandatory events must be completed — they can’t be skipped
    • Optional events are worth doing for rewards, but skip them if you’re on thin ice

Tip 2 – Upgrade Cornering and Resilience First in Star Wars Galactic Racer

Between events in the campaign, you pick an upgrade point from three randomised options. These improve your base vehicle stats: Cornering, Resilience, Afterburner, Ramjet, Battery, and your vehicle’s unique cornering mechanic.

For beginners, Cornering and Resilience are the right call almost every time. Better Cornering means you can turn faster and tighter — fewer mistakes, fewer crashes. Higher Resilience means your speeder is harder to break during contact, which matters a lot on hazard-heavy planets. Once you’re comfortable and surviving consistently, then you shift your focus toward Ramjet and Afterburner for raw pace.

    • Cornering — reduces driving errors, especially on tight tracks
    • Resilience — reduces crash damage and malfunctions from hazards
    • Afterburner — your standard boost, becomes more important on hot planets
    • Ramjet — powerful but dangerous; invest here once you understand heat management

Tip 3 – Understand the Difference Between Afterburner and Ramjet

This is probably the most important mechanic in the game to get right, and the one that catches the most new players off guard. Star Wars Galactic Racer has two separate boost systems that work very differently.

The Afterburner is your standard speed boost — it’s represented by a white bar in the bottom-left of your HUD. Hold X on PlayStation or A on Xbox to activate it. It restores gradually during normal racing and is your go-to speed tool in most situations.

The Ramjet is the big one. It charges up as you reach higher speeds. Once the bar is full, click R3 to enter Ramjet mode, then hold X/A to use it. It delivers a massive speed boost — but the moment you stop holding the button, any leftover Ramjet energy is wasted. And if you let it overheat and redline, your engine blows up. That’s a crash.

    • Use Afterburner first to build speed, then activate Ramjet on top of it
    • Release Ramjet before the heat bar maxes out — the last third of the danger zone is your cutoff point
    • Flame Vent ability flushes heat instantly — if you have it, use it to chain Ramjet runs
    • Acid hazards on certain planets can temporarily disable your Ramjet — plan around it
    • Priming your Afterburner and Vent during pre-race checks starts you with a full fuel bar and Ramjet ready

Tip 4 – Do Your Pre-Race Checks Every Single Time

Before each race, Galactic Racer gives you a short pre-race window — a few seconds where you can input ability activations for a benefit at race start. Most new players ignore this or treat it as filler. It isn’t.

Priming your Afterburner correctly ensures you start the race with a full boost bar. Venting your Ramjet means it’s cooled down and ready to charge. The Status Scrubber ability, if you have it equipped, massively increases the Perfect Start timing window — making it much easier to nail the launch and pull ahead off the line.

Get into the habit of treating the pre-race checks as part of the race itself. Five seconds of attention can set the tone for everything that follows.

Tip 5 – Pick the Right Vehicle for Your Playstyle in Star Wars Galactic Racer

The three main vehicle classes each suit a different kind of driver. Don’t just pick the fastest-looking one — pick the one that matches how you actually race.

    • Landspeeder — the balanced starter. Good turning, solid armor, forgiving on busy tracks with lots of contact. The best vehicle to learn the game in.
    • Speeder Bike — fast, nimble, and hits hard when you drift. Every time you pull out of a drift, you get an acceleration burst. The ceiling is high, but it cannot handle heavy contact.
    • Skimspeeder (Skim Speeder) — built for manoeuvrability. Excellent on tight tracks, and its wide frame lets you clip rivals. Great if you prefer aggressive racing over pure speed.

The Speeder Bike and Skimspeeder both cost Tuning Points to unlock. The Speeder Bike costs 10 Tuning Points; the Skimspeeder costs 20. Start with the Landspeeder, learn the tracks, and then invest in your preferred vehicle once you have a feel for the game.

Tip 6 – Always Place Sidebets in the Campaign

Once Sidebets unlock in Act 2 of the campaign, place one every single race — unless you genuinely have no Credits to spend. The upside is consistently worth it. Sidebets earn you extra Credits even when you don’t win, and winning enough bets against a specific racer can trigger a Head-to-Head Rival Race.

Win that Rival Race and the racer becomes a source of powerful Favors — permanent bonuses you can equip before future Tours. Favors like High Roller (more Credits from sidebets) and Victorious Loser (Credit rewards regardless of finishing position) make subsequent runs dramatically more resource-efficient. Concentrate your sidebets on one racer at a time to unlock their Favor faster rather than spreading bets thinly across the whole field.

Tip 7 – Understand Tuning Points vs Temporary Upgrades

This distinction trips up a lot of players. There are two separate progression systems running at the same time:

    • Temporary upgrades — earned during a Tour from Upgrade Packs between races. These boost your stats for that run only. If you lose and the Tour ends, they’re gone.
    • Tuning Points — permanent currency earned by completing events (1 per race, 4 per Eliminator). These carry over between every Tour attempt, no matter what. They’re used to permanently raise your vehicle’s stat bars and unlock new vehicles.

You can also spend 2 Tuning Points at the start of a Tour to respec your permanent upgrade distribution — useful if you want to pivot your build without starting from scratch. Kit Points are a third currency that carries over specifically for cosmetic customisation.

Tip 8 – Plan Your Tour Route Before You Commit to an Event

The campaign’s roguelite structure means you’re choosing which events to enter from a branching map of options. Different events offer different rewards — some give Upgrade Packs, some give Credits, some lead to specific planets. The route you take shapes the entire run.

Don’t just pick the next event blindly. Look at where the branch leads and what rewards are available further down the path. If a planet ahead has harsh environmental hazards, make sure your build can handle it before committing to that route — for example, planets with acid damage can disable your Ramjet temporarily. Going in with a pure speed build and no resilience is how runs end prematurely.

Tip 9 – Use Arcade Mode and Scenario Mode to Get Better

The campaign punishes mistakes with real consequences. If you’re still learning the tracks or getting used to how your vehicle handles, take the pressure off and use Arcade Mode — it’s available from the start and lets you race any track with any vehicle without risking League Tokens.

Scenario Mode includes time trials and objective-based races, which are genuinely great for building specific skills like cornering, landing technique, and boost management. It also includes the historical Podracing events — the Boonta Eve Classic is in here — if you want a break from the main campaign structure.

Tip 10 – Learn Shortcuts and Don’t Rely on Pure Speed

Galactic Racer tracks are hand-crafted with no single ideal racing line — which means shortcuts exist, and they’re worth finding. Some tracks on certain planets actively encourage taking narrow alternative routes over the obvious path. The Skimspeeder’s Knife’s Edge manoeuvre can help fit through tighter openings that other vehicles can’t navigate cleanly.

Speed is important, but it’s not the only tool. Knowing a shortcut that saves two seconds is often worth more than a Ramjet upgrade that saves half a second per straight. Spend time in Arcade Mode learning track layouts — when you know what’s around the next corner, you race completely differently.

Bonus Tip – Keep Tutorial Pop-Ups On Longer Than You Think You Need To

There’s a real temptation to turn off tutorial prompts as soon as you feel like you know what you’re doing. Resist it. Galactic Racer has enough interlocking systems — Ramjet heat, pre-race checks, Favors, environmental hazards, Sidebets — that the pop-ups will almost certainly explain something useful you’ve been glossing over. You can reset them from the Gameplay settings if you’ve already switched them off. No shame in it.

Star Wars Galactic Racer Tips – FAQ

What should I upgrade first in Star Wars Galactic Racer?

Upgrade Cornering and Resilience first. These two stats reduce driving mistakes and protect your speeder during contact, which keeps you in races longer. Once you’re comfortable surviving consistently, shift your Upgrade Pack picks toward Ramjet and Afterburner for more raw pace. For permanent Tuning Points, invest in your main vehicle first and then boost your Afterburner and Ramjet stats.

What is the best starting vehicle in Star Wars Galactic Racer?

The Landspeeder is the best starting vehicle for new players. It’s well-balanced, has good armor, and handles busy tracks forgivingly. The Speeder Bike and Skimspeeder are both strong choices once you know the tracks, but they demand more precision and cost Tuning Points to unlock (10 for the Speeder Bike, 20 for the Skimspeeder).

What is the difference between Afterburner and Ramjet in Star Wars Galactic Racer?

Afterburner is your standard boost — it refills during racing and is safe to use freely. Ramjet is a much more powerful boost that builds up as you reach high speeds, but it generates heat and will destroy your engine if it overheats. Activate Ramjet by clicking R3, then hold X/A to use it. Release it before the heat bar maxes out to avoid blowing your engine.

Should I always place Sidebets in Star Wars Galactic Racer?

Yes, almost always. Sidebets earn extra Credits even on races you don’t win, and stacking bets against the same racer eventually unlocks a Head-to-Head Rival Race. Winning that unlocks a Favor — a powerful passive bonus you can equip in future Tours. Focus bets on one rival at a time to unlock their Favor faster.
