How To Get Blush and Complete Tearless Farewell in Where Winds Meet
The One Leaf, One Life Event in Where Winds Meet includes several memorable side stories, and Tearless Farewell is one of the most emotionally charged. Officially classified as a Wandering Tale, this One Leaf, One Life: Phase III quest revolves around helping a grieving widower named Zhong Wenping recover a precious keepsake — his late wife’s Blush (also called Rouge in some translations). The item isn’t in a chest or on the ground; it’s carried by an NPC, and the game gives you no waypoint — which is exactly why so many players get stuck.
If you can’t find the quest start, can’t locate the Blush, or aren’t sure which dialogue choices matter, this walkthrough covers every step clearly. You’ll also need to complete One Leaf, One Life Chapter 2 first to open the shops in the area before this quest becomes available. For more on unlocking Kaifeng, see our full guide.
Tearless Farewell Quest Rewards
Before diving into the walkthrough, here’s what you’ll earn for completing the Tearless Farewell quest:
| Reward | Amount |
|---|---|
| Echo Jade | x30 |
| Kaifeng Exploration Points | x10 |
| Zhou Coins | 2,500 |
| Character EXP (Stored) | 2,500 |
Rewards are granted progressively as you complete each stage and then in full upon finishing the final conversation with Zhong Wenping. This quest also counts toward Kaifeng exploration progress.
Where To Start the Tearless Farewell Quest in Where Winds Meet
Head to the South Gate Avenue district in Kaifeng and make your way to Tianjing Dock — specifically the southwestern pier area. You’ll find two women named Chen Mei and Yang Ping standing on the stairs, loudly gossiping about a man named Zhong Wenping and accusing him of having an affair.
Talk to Chen Mei and Yang Ping to officially start the quest. They’ll claim they found proof of the affair hidden in Zhong Wenping’s stall — remember this, it becomes relevant shortly. Walk to the other side of those stairs and you’ll find Zhong Wenping sitting at his stall, quietly mourning his deceased wife, Zhou Juan.
Speaking With Zhong Wenping for the First Time
When you first speak with Zhong Wenping, you’ll have two dialogue options — you can ask about the affair accusations or confront him more directly. It doesn’t matter which you choose — both are purely for narrative flavour and have no impact on the quest outcome. He’ll firmly deny everything regardless. When you bring up the Blush item, he’ll explain it once belonged to his late wife. Talk to him again and you’ll see a “Give” option with a purple marker, asking for the Blush — which you don’t have yet. Time to go get it.
How To Find the Blush in Where Winds Meet
The Blush is not in a chest, stall, or anywhere in the environment. It’s a personal cosmetic carried directly on Chen Mei — one of the two gossiping women you spoke to at the start. The game expects you to use two Mystic Arts in sequence to retrieve it without triggering combat or any reputation penalties:
Step 1 — Use Windsense (V)
- Press V to activate Windsense near the two women
- This highlights which woman is carrying the Blush — it is always Chen Mei (the woman on the left)
Step 2 — Use Celestial Seize (F)
- Stand behind Chen Mei — positioning matters for Celestial Seize to trigger correctly
- Activate Celestial Seize and press F to steal the Blush from her pocket
- The Blush will be added to your inventory as a quest item — you don’t need to equip or use it manually
- Gamepad tip: It’s easy to back out of the Celestial Seize menu by mistake — make sure the Blush icon is clearly highlighted before confirming
With the Blush secured, head back to Zhong Wenping’s stall.
Completing the Tearless Farewell Quest: Correct Dialogue Choices
Once you return to Zhong Wenping, select the dialogue option that explicitly offers to give him the Blush. A touching cutscene will play — after it ends, you’ll find him back at his stall. Now the final dialogue sequence begins, and this is where the quest is most commonly stuck:
Third Conversation — “Listen to him”
- Select the bottom option: “Listen to him”
- Let Zhong Wenping speak fully — do not interrupt
Fourth Conversation — “Console”
- Choose the upper option: “Console”
- This triggers Zhong Wenping’s heartfelt thanks and completes the quest
Important note: If you accidentally select other options, the quest does not permanently fail — you can cycle through the conversations again until you make the correct choices. The quest only locks in as complete once both “Listen to him” and “Console” have been selected in order.
Tips for Completing Tearless Farewell Efficiently
- Unlock Celestial Seize before starting this quest — it is mandatory. The Blush cannot be bought, looted from containers, or obtained through dialogue alone. See our Celestial Seize unlock guide
- Complete One Leaf, One Life Chapter 2 first — this is required to open the stalls and NPCs in the South Gate Avenue area
- Use Windsense immediately when you arrive at the pier — it instantly identifies Chen Mei as the carrier, saving you any wasted searching
- Stand directly behind Chen Mei before activating Celestial Seize — positioning is key to triggering the steal without issues
- Wrong dialogue choices don’t permanently fail the quest — you can loop back through conversations until you get “Listen to him” → “Console” in the right order
- If you’re working through the One Leaf, One Life event, check our daily activities checklist to maximize your rewards across every phase
