After 22 years of World of Warcraft, Blizzard is finally cracking open the Paladin floodgates. At BlizzCon 2026, the WoW team pulled back the curtain on Midnight: Eclipse — Patch 12.2 — and buried inside all the raid news and story beats was the announcement that’s going to have a lot of long-time players losing their minds: Night Elves, Forsaken, and Darkspear Trolls can all become Paladins. Not at the start of a brand new expansion. Right here, in the middle of Midnight. That alone would have been enough to make this panel one of the most talked-about WoW reveals in years — but Eclipse is bringing a whole lot more with it.
WoW Midnight Patch 12.2 Eclipse — What Is It?
Midnight: Eclipse is the final major content update for World of Warcraft: Midnight, and it was revealed during the BlizzCon 2026 opening ceremony by Game Director Ion Hazzikostas before a full developer panel, led by Associate Game Director Paul Kubit, expanded on every detail. The patch is framed around the story of Xal’atath finally making her move on the Worldsoul of Azeroth, taking the conflict deep underground into an ancient Titan facility that has been sealed for thousands of years.
The update introduces a new zone called the Mantle Vault, a fresh dungeon, an eight-boss raid, new Delves content, housing updates, and a full Season 3 endgame refresh. It’s being positioned as the climactic chapter of the Worldsoul Saga before the story transitions into The Last Titan expansion, which is currently targeting a 2027 release date.
Night Elf, Forsaken, and Darkspear Troll Paladins Are Finally Coming
Let’s talk about the big one. Blizzard confirmed that three new race-class combinations are coming with Patch 12.2: Night Elf Paladins, Forsaken Paladins, and Darkspear Troll Paladins. All three races will be able to wield the power of the Light and take on the Paladin class once Eclipse goes live. It marks the first time in WoW’s 22-year history that new race-class combos have been added mid-expansion rather than at a launch.
Kubit framed the decision thematically, pointing to Midnight’s central Light vs. Void conflict. With Xal’atath representing the Void, the idea is that the Light is calling more champions to stand against her — and that now includes races that players have been asking to play as Paladins for years. Forsaken Paladins in particular have been one of the most requested class combos in the game’s history, and they’ll have a dedicated questline explaining how the Undead came to wield Light alongside the new Paladin race unlock.
Night Elf Paladins are worth noting on their own — the idea was first floated all the way back during the Legion expansion, making this a callback that’s been a long time coming. Troll Paladins round out the trio with a combination that feels narratively fresh and mechanically exciting for players who want to build around the class with a race that hadn’t previously had access to it.
One additional detail: Forsaken Paladins will actually be available slightly ahead of the full Midnight: Eclipse content update, giving Undead players a head start on rolling their holy warrior before Patch 12.2 officially drops.
What About Paladin Charger Mounts?
Paladins have always had exclusive access to race-specific Charger mounts — those glowing divine steeds that are one of the class’s most iconic visual signatures. With three new races joining the class, there’s every reason to expect Night Elf, Forsaken, and Darkspear Troll Paladins will each receive their own unique Charger variants that match their race aesthetics. Blizzard hasn’t officially confirmed this yet, but given the pattern with every other race-specific Paladin mount in the game’s history, it would be genuinely surprising if all three new race options didn’t come with their own custom rides.
The Worldcore Raid — Final Showdown With Xal’atath
Eclipse’s centerpiece is the Worldcore, an eight-boss raid that takes players deep beneath Azeroth to confront Xal’atath and the Devouring Host in the ultimate battle for the planet’s Worldsoul. The raid will pit players against a mix of automated Titan defense systems and Xal’atath’s own lieutenants, building toward a final confrontation with the floating villain herself as the last boss.
Xal’atath has been building toward this moment across the entirety of Midnight, and the Worldcore raid is designed to pay off that entire arc in one climactic gauntlet. Blizzard has also hinted through BlizzCon imagery — including a brief appearance of The Jailer in the opening ceremony collage video — that the events of the Worldcore might uncover something even bigger lurking beyond Xal’atath’s defeat, potentially teasing what The Last Titan is really building toward.
Midnight’s Edge — The First Legendary of the Worldsoul Saga
Eclipse also marks the return of legendary weapons to World of Warcraft, and the first legendary of the entire Worldsoul Saga is called Midnight’s Edge. It’s a caster dagger with Void-themed visuals, and the questline to obtain it begins with progressing through the Worldcore raid. Blizzard briefly showed the item tooltip during the reveal but kept most of the stats and abilities redacted, leaving the full picture of the weapon for players to discover once the patch is live.
The weapon’s look draws comparisons to the Black Blade of the Empire, giving it an immediately striking visual identity. For caster mains who have been waiting for a proper legendary to chase, Midnight’s Edge is going to be the defining grind of Season 3.
New Zone, New Dungeon, and Season 3 Endgame
Beyond the raid, Eclipse is opening up the Mantle Vault as a full explorable zone — a location split between ancient Azerite crystal formations and Titan-built architecture, with the usual zone features alongside a new lair called the Gearhold and a new Renown faction known as the Radiant Core. The zone also introduces Radiant Screams, a new outdoor event built around kill streaks that scales for flexible group sizes and offers unique rewards for players who engage with it.
The new dungeon is called Thraegar’s Stand, a three-boss instance that ties into the underground Deepskar faction encountered during the Mantle Vault storyline. One of the bosses is a Titan construct named Stenvarg the Inevitable, and the dungeon is entering the Mythic+ pool for Season 3 alongside a freshly curated rotation of returning dungeons: Magister’s Terrace, Maisara Caverns, The Underrot, Iron Docks, Sanguine Depths, The Stonecore, and Uldaman: Legacy of Tyr.
Season 3 itself is bringing a new Delve Nemesis in the form of Astalor Bloodsworn, whose mind has been clouded by the accumulated Anguish powers from the Prey system — meaning players will need to knock some sense back into him the old-fashioned WoW way. A new Prey difficulty tier called Anguish is also being added above Nightmare for players looking for a harder challenge in that content stream.
Housing, Transmog, and the Calibration Chamber
Eclipse isn’t just about the big narrative beats — there’s a meaningful set of quality-of-life upgrades coming alongside the core content. Housing is getting a significant update with a new Showcase mode that lets players browse featured homes from the Housing dashboard, submit their own homes for community display, and visit builds that catch their eye. Additional features include mannequins for displaying unlocked appearances, copy-paste and multi-select tools for decorating, Visitor Codes, and the ability to purchase extra copies of owned décor items while inside a home.
There’s also a brand new Calibration Chamber being added — a dedicated testing space where players can evaluate their rotations with advanced modifiers including raid buffs, solo or with a party. If you’re a theorycrafter or someone who likes to nail down their spec before committing to a progression environment, this is genuinely a quality-of-life feature that’s been needed for a long time.
Transmog is getting one of its biggest changes ever, but it’s coming in Patch 12.2.5 rather than at Eclipse launch: starting with that update, players will be able to transmog gear across all armor types without restriction. That means cloth, leather, mail, and plate appearances will all be cross-applicable. For players who have been collecting transmog for years, this is huge. A new PvP journey system for rewards is also coming alongside Eclipse.
Wrath of the Lich King Remix Is Next
Blizzard closed out the What’s Next panel by confirming that the next WoW Remix event is heading back to Northrend with a Wrath of the Lich King Remix. No further details were shared during the panel itself, but the announcement alone is enough to have veterans of the Death Knight era marking their calendars. More details are expected in the weeks following BlizzCon 2026.
WoW Forever and the Warcraft Forever Collection
Alongside the Midnight: Eclipse news, Blizzard also officially revealed World of Warcraft: Forever — better known by the community as WoW Classic Plus — and confirmed it includes some race-class combinations that weren’t available when the original game launched in 2004. A cinematic for WoW: Forever confirmed Undead Paladins are part of the Classic Plus experience as well, showing a Forsaken Paladin going toe-to-toe with a Dwarf Hunter. The game launches fully on November 4 for all WoW subscribers at no additional cost.
Players interested in the lore behind how Forsaken characters came to channel the Light can also play through Forsaken Kingdom, a new expansion to Warcraft 3: Reforged that was surprise-dropped during BlizzCon. It covers the events in the fallen Kingdom of Lordaeron between The Frozen Throne and the original WoW launch. Blizzard also announced a Warcraft Forever Collection bundle on Battle.net for $79.99, which includes WoW: Forever closed beta access, Warcraft 3: Reforged, Forsaken Kingdom, and additional cosmetic items.
If you’re tracking everything that dropped at BlizzCon 2026, there was a lot happening beyond WoW alone — including the massive Diablo 5 reveal with its return to Diablo 2-style loot systems and Runewords. And if you’re interested in how other franchises are handling big cross-platform announcements and legacy content, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s Royal Edition Switch 2 release is another headline worth watching heading into 2027.
When Does Midnight: Eclipse Come Out?
Blizzard has not pinned down an exact release date for Patch 12.2: Eclipse. The current roadmap places it in early 2027, making it the final major content update for WoW: Midnight before the story transitions into The Last Titan expansion later that year. In the meantime, players can jump onto the Public Test Realm right now to check out what’s coming in Patch 12.1.5, which includes the Kith’ix storyline, new Labyrinths activity, and Aqir Invasions.
For WoW veterans who have been waiting years for specific race-class combos to get unlocked — and specifically for everyone who has been asking for Forsaken Paladins since essentially forever — Midnight: Eclipse is shaping up to be one of the most satisfying mid-expansion patches Blizzard has delivered in a long time.
