You can change DNS settings in your device’s network settings or directly in your router’s admin panel. On Windows, go to Settings → Network & Internet → your connection → Edit DNS. On a router, the option is usually under WAN or Internet settings. Note that if you use a Pi-Hole or DNS-based ad blocker, this can sometimes interfere with the cloud gaming stream — try bypassing it temporarily to see if it is the cause.

Outdated router firmware is a surprisingly common cause of connection instability and packet loss. Router manufacturers regularly release firmware updates that fix bugs, patch security vulnerabilities, and improve performance. Running old firmware can cause issues that do not show up in basic speed tests but affect real-time gaming traffic.
Log into your router’s admin panel and look for a firmware update option — usually under Settings, Administration, or Advanced. Many modern routers have an automatic update option that handles this for you. If you have not updated in over a year, this is worth doing.
Fix 11: Set Windows Power Mode to High Performance
This fix applies specifically to PC players. If your Windows device is set to a power-saving mode, your CPU may be running at reduced clock speeds. Decoding a high-quality video stream in real time is CPU-intensive, and a throttled processor can create lag even when your internet connection is fine.
To change this on Windows 10 or 11, go to Settings → System → Power & Sleep → Additional Power Settings and select High Performance.
