Amazon and Warner Bros. used the opening day of San Diego Comic-Con 2026 to announce something that came genuinely out of nowhere: a Batman co-op game launching in one week. Batman: Caped Crusader – Chronicles is a four-player detective party game built as a companion to the animated series’ upcoming second season, and it’s arriving on Amazon Luna on July 31 — the exact same moment all 10 new episodes of the show drop on Prime Video. The kicker is that it’s included with Amazon Prime at no additional cost.

What Is Batman: Caped Crusader – Chronicles?

Chronicles is a cooperative crime-solving game for one to four players set in the noir-soaked Gotham City of the Batman: Caped Crusader animated series. Players join a special GCPD task force working alongside Batman and Detective Renee Montoya, tackling cases that expand on the world of Season 2 rather than directly adapting individual episodes.

The distinction matters: Chronicles isn’t an interactive retelling of what happens in the show. Early press materials describe it as an expansion of the Prime Video series — separate storylines and cases that exist alongside the second season rather than recreating its beats. The show has 10 new episodes; the game has 11 playable episodes. That extra episode is telling.

Gameplay: Detective Minigames, Evidence, and Interrogations

The core loop is built around detective work across a series of minigame-driven investigations. As part of the GCPD task force, players work through cases by:

    • Decoding and analyzing evidence gathered from crime scenes
    • Following leads across different locations in Gotham
    • Interrogating suspects to extract information
    • Unraveling crimes tied to a substantial villain gallery

The villain roster confirmed so far is impressive for a companion title: Scarecrow, Babyface, Tweedledee and Tweedledum, Dollmaker, Lynx, Music Meister, and the Joker are all listed as antagonists players will encounter across the 11 episodes.

The game supports smartphone controls through the Luna app — players can use their phone as the controller without needing to pair a separate gamepad, which is specifically designed to lower the barrier for non-gamers who might be watching the show and want to jump in. A conventional controller also works for those who prefer it.

Original Cast Returns — Hamish Linklater and Michelle C. Bonilla

Insomniac isn’t the only studio bringing original cast members back for a game tie-in this week. Chronicles has confirmed that Hamish Linklater (Batman/Bruce Wayne) and Michelle C. Bonilla (Detective Renee Montoya) are both reprising their roles from the animated series. Additional voice talent has been teased but not fully revealed yet, with Amazon promising more announcements before July 31.

Having the actual series cast in the game rather than replacement voice actors is a meaningful commitment. It keeps the tonal continuity between the show and the game intact and gives Chronicles a level of production legitimacy that most streaming tie-in games don’t bother with.

Art Style: 1940s Noir and the Animated Series Look

Chronicles uses what Amazon describes as a “unique 1940s noir art style” consistent with the animated series’ visual identity. Batman: Caped Crusader the show has always leaned heavily into that period-accurate aesthetic — dark, rain-slicked streets, Art Deco architecture, a muted color palette broken up by harsh light sources — and the game appears to carry that through rather than adopting a different visual approach for the interactive version.

For fans of the show’s look, that consistency is exactly what you’d want from a companion title.

Price, Platforms, and How to Play

This is where Chronicles genuinely stands apart from most game announcements. It’s not sold separately anywhere — it’s included with Amazon Prime membership at no additional cost through Luna’s GameNight library. No separate purchase, no subscription upgrade, no microtransaction entry point. If you already have Prime, you have Chronicles.

The game is available through the Luna app across a wide range of devices and regions:

    • Devices: Fire TV, Fire tablets, Samsung and LG smart TVs, web browsers (PC, Mac, Chromebook), Android, and iOS
    • Countries: United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, France, Austria, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Portugal, Belgium, and Luxembourg
    • Controls: Smartphone via the Luna app, or a conventional controller
    • Downloads required: None — streaming-based, launch and play immediately

The Prime Video and Luna Integration

Chronicles is launching at the same time as a broader Amazon announcement about Prime Video and Luna converging on Fire TV. Starting now in the US and UK, Prime Video is becoming a game-discovery interface for Luna on Fire TV devices — a new Games tab lets Prime members browse and launch Luna titles from the same app they use to watch the show. So in theory, you could finish an episode of Batman: Caped Crusader Season 2 and launch Chronicles from the exact same app without leaving or downloading anything.

That integration is clearly what Amazon is building toward: use the show to bring people to the game, and use the game to keep them in the Prime ecosystem. For a company the size of Amazon with a streaming service and a cloud gaming platform, the synergy is obvious — Chronicles is as much a Prime Video marketing tool as it is a standalone game, which is part of why it’s free.

Batman: Caped Crusader Season 2 — What’s New

For anyone not fully caught up on the show, Batman: Caped Crusader premiered in August 2024 on Prime Video and became the platform’s most-watched animated series debut in US history. The show is set during Bruce Wayne’s early years as Batman in a heightened 1940s Gotham, with a tone that leans far more into crime noir and psychological drama than typical superhero animation.

Season 2, launching July 31, introduces several major new characters to the series’ version of Gotham: Edward Nygma (the Riddler), Carrie Kelley, Roxy Rocket, and a more prominent role for the Joker, who had a brief appearance in the Season 1 finale. All 10 episodes drop at once, midnight local time, in the standard Prime Video all-at-once release format.

Chronicles goes live at the same moment — so the plan is clearly binge the season, then keep going with the game, or mix them however you want across the 11 episodes of each.
