San Diego Comic-Con 2026 brought a double-barrel reveal from Insomniac Games for Marvel’s Wolverine. The studio announced a crossover suit collaboration with Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls and dropped a new story trailer that finally pulls back the curtain on who Logan is going to be tearing through come September 15. Both reveals are free content wins for players, and the story trailer is the most substantial look at the game’s narrative yet.

The Marvel Tokon Suit: What It Looks Like and How to Get It

Insomniac has confirmed a cosmetic crossover with Arc System Works’ upcoming 4v4 tag fighter Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, and the result is one of the more visually distinct suits shown for the game so far. The Marvel Tokon suit brings an anime-inspired aesthetic into Insomniac’s photorealistic world, built around Wolverine’s classic bright blue and yellow X-Men color scheme — the one most longtime fans associate with his most iconic comic book look.

The proportions and art direction are deliberately stylized to match Fighting Souls’ visual identity, which means it’s going to look intentionally different against the backdrop of Insomniac’s realistic rendering. That contrast is actually what makes it interesting — it’s the kind of suit that’s going to look genuinely surreal during cutscenes, and that’s part of the appeal.

The key detail: this suit is completely free and is unlocked through normal game progression rather than being locked behind a pre-order bonus or paid cosmetic. That’s worth highlighting because several other confirmed suits for the game — like the classic brown and tan costume and the X-Force black suit — are tied to specific pre-order editions. The Marvel Tokon outfit is available to every player who picks up the game.

The Reverse Crossover: Battle Reborn Comes to Fighting Souls on September 1

The collaboration runs both ways. Marvel’s Wolverine’s base “Battle Reborn” suit — Insomniac’s original design for the character featuring yellow-and-black segmented armor plating — will be added to Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls on September 1, 2026, two weeks before Wolverine itself launches. It’s also free.

The translation from Insomniac’s realistic design into Fighting Souls’ anime art style actually works surprisingly well from what’s been shown. The armor segmentation reads more like fighting game design language than a photorealistic costume, which gives it its own identity rather than just being a copy-paste of the original.

This makes September 1 a double event for Fighting Souls players — the Battle Reborn suit arrives the same day as the game’s first Year 1 DLC character, Phoenix Cyclops, who was also announced at SDCC alongside the fighting game’s full animated opening movie, produced by Sanzigen Studio (the team behind Guilty Gear Strive: Dual Rulers) with theme song “Stronger As One.”

The Story Trailer: Deathstrike, The Hand, and Jean Grey

Alongside the suit reveal, Insomniac dropped a new story trailer for Marvel’s Wolverine that confirms several major details about the game’s antagonists and narrative setup that hadn’t been officially stated before:

    • Deathstrike is confirmed as one of the game’s primary antagonists. Lady Deathstrike — Yuriko Oyama — is one of the most personal enemies in Wolverine’s rogues’ gallery, given her own adamantium skeleton and claws and her ties to the Weapon X program. Her presence as a main villain sets up exactly the kind of brutal, personal confrontation the game seems to be building toward.
    • The Hand is confirmed as one of the major enemy factions. The ancient ninja clan has a long history with Wolverine in the comics, and Insomniac has stated that players will uncover more of Logan’s history with the organization as the story progresses — suggesting it’s woven into the narrative rather than just used as a backdrop enemy type.
    • The trailer opens with a tense confrontation between Wolverine and Jean Grey, which is significant given how central the Jean Grey relationship is to Logan’s emotional history. Whether she’s a major supporting character or plays a larger story role remains to be seen, but her appearance in the opening moment of the trailer isn’t accidental.

Insomniac also released new artwork depicting Wolverine in combat against Hand soldiers alongside the trailer, and revealed additional composer details for the game’s score — though full details on the soundtrack haven’t been disclosed yet.

What the Crossover Means for Sony’s PS5 Lineup

Both Marvel’s Wolverine and Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls are PS5 titles in Sony’s 2026 lineup, and the crossover is a deliberate move to create momentum between the two releases. Fighting Souls is expected to launch before Wolverine — putting the Battle Reborn suit in Fighting Souls on September 1 is essentially Sony using one game to market the other in the two-week window before Wolverine arrives.

It’s also a signal of how seriously Sony is treating both properties. The Insomniac Marvel games have been some of the best-performing PlayStation exclusives of the current generation — Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 crossed 11 million sales — and Wolverine is positioned as the next major tentpole in that lineage. Arc System Works, meanwhile, is the most respected name in the modern fighting game space following the success of Guilty Gear Strive and Dragon Ball FighterZ, so Fighting Souls brings its own prestige to the table.

Marvel’s Wolverine Release Date and Pre-Order Details

Marvel’s Wolverine launches exclusively on PS5 on September 15, 2026. Pre-orders are live now across standard and special editions, with edition-exclusive suits like the classic brown costume available as pre-order bonuses. The Marvel Tokon crossover suit, as noted, requires no pre-order and no additional purchase — just play through the game’s progression system to unlock it.
