Borderlands 4 Bounty Pack 3 and Takedown at Hadron Abyss Launch June 25 — Loveless the Hacker Revealed

Borderlands 4 Version 1.8 drops June 25 with paid DLC Bounty Pack 3: A Zane to Kill For, the free Takedown at Hadron Abyss raid, cross-platform saves, and a first look at new Vault Hunter Loveless the Hacker.

Gearbox just had its biggest content announcement since launch. The Borderlands 4 Version 1.8 update drops June 25, 2026, and it’s bringing a lot at once — paid DLC, a free endgame raid, cross-platform saves, and the first real look at the game’s next post-launch Vault Hunter. If you’ve been waiting for a reason to jump back in, this is it.

Bounty Pack 3: A Zane to Kill For — Paid DLC Launching June 25

The paid centerpiece of Version 1.8 is Bounty Pack 3: A Zane to Kill For. The premise is exactly as absurd as you’d hope from a Zane-focused story: someone has deleted the Digi-Clone backup of Zane, Borderlands 3’s Operative, and your Vault Hunter is being dragged into solving the murder. The whole thing plays out inside Private Dick, a neon-noir arcade cabinet tucked into Zane’s corner of Moxxi’s bar — so you’re essentially jumping into a game-within-a-game to investigate a crime in a glitchy digital city.

The new enemy type introduced here is the Glitched enemy, which can swap positions mid-combat to keep you on your toes. It fits the arcade-digital theme well and should add a layer of unpredictability that feels fresh compared to standard Borderlands encounters. The arcade cabinets also remain playable as minigames after you finish the story content, which is a nice touch.

Bounty Pack 3 Loot and Rewards

The DLC brings a solid loot pool alongside the new narrative content:

  • One new Pearlescent weapon — the rarest tier in Borderlands 4
  • Six new Legendary items with dedicated drops from the new boss and mini-bosses
  • A new Vault Hunter skin, a vehicle, and an ECHO-4 drone cosmetic
  • New boss and two mini-bosses with their own dedicated loot tables

Vault Card 3 — Now Sold Separately

This is a meaningful change to how Gearbox is structuring its DLC going forward. Starting with Bounty Pack 3, the narrative content and the cosmetic Vault Card content are being sold separately. Both are priced at $5.99 USD each, and you can buy either one individually or bundle them together.

Vault Card 3 contains 24 cosmetic items and four re-rollable pieces of Legendary gear earned through challenges — none of it is handed over at purchase, you earn it through play. Gearbox has confirmed this split approach will also apply to Bounty Pack 4, Bounty Pack 5, and Story Pack 2 going forward. There are currently no firm plans to retroactively apply this to previously released packs, but Gearbox says they’re looking into it.

Players who own the Super Deluxe Edition of Borderlands 4 automatically get access to all content from both the Bounty Pack Bundle and the Vault Hunter Pack — that covers Bounty Packs 2 through 5 and Story Packs 1 and 2. Deluxe Edition owners receive the Bounty Pack Bundle only.

Takedown at Hadron Abyss — Free Endgame Raid Dropping the Same Day

Alongside the paid DLC, Version 1.8 drops a completely free endgame raid called Takedown at Hadron Abyss. The setting is a submerged research lab — Hadron Abyss — that is actively falling apart around you, filled with mutated horrors and aquatic apex predators. The final showdown is against Child of Terramorphous, a callback that long-time Borderlands fans will immediately recognize.

This is Borderlands 4’s most difficult content to date, designed explicitly for coordinated team play. There are no farming checkpoints and spawn points are deliberately sparse, so if your squad wipes, you’re starting from the top. For those who want to push it further, optional challenge modifiers can be toggled on to scale up enemy health and damage to even more brutal levels.

Takedown Loot Pool

The reward pool for Hadron Abyss is actually more generous than what’s in Bounty Pack 3:

  • One new Pearlescent weapon with a dedicated drop
  • Nine new Legendary items across the boss and miniboss loot tables
  • Five new Class Mods — with a sixth joining the pool in Q3 2026 when Loveless arrives with Story Pack 2

Cross-Platform Saves Are Finally Here

One of the most requested quality-of-life features is also landing in Version 1.8: cross-platform saves. Starting June 25, you can carry your Vault Hunters seamlessly across any platform where you own Borderlands 4. If you’ve been splitting playtime between console and PC, or if you’ve been waiting to move to a different platform without losing progress, this is the update that makes it happen.

Loveless the Hacker — September’s New Vault Hunter Revealed

Gearbox capped off the Version 1.8 announcement with a first look at the second post-launch Vault Hunter, and she’s a genuinely interesting design. Loveless is an ex-Anshin hacker turned assassin arriving as part of Story Pack 2 in early September, making her the sixth Vault Hunter in Borderlands 4’s roster.

The high-level kit description has two main pillars: high-end cybernetic weaponry and a digital virus she shares her mind with, which can digistruct into a physical form that fights as a deadly extension of her will. Think a character who blurs the line between herself and her weapon — with an AI companion that acts less like a pet and more like a synchronized lethal system. Full kit details haven’t been released yet, but the concept alone has a lot of potential for unique playstyles and synergies.

Loveless and her cosmetics will be available as individual purchases within Story Pack 2, with Gearbox confirming a $9 USD price point for the Vault Hunter herself, separate from the Story Pack content. More details are expected in a future DevCast closer to September.

The Full Borderlands 4 2026 Post-Launch Roadmap

With Version 1.8 now confirmed and Loveless revealed, the post-launch content calendar is shaping up into one of the busiest stretches Borderlands 4 has had since launch. Here’s where everything stands:

  • June 25 — Version 1.8: Bounty Pack 3: A Zane to Kill For (paid), Takedown at Hadron Abyss (free), cross-platform saves
  • July 30 — Version 1.9: Bounty Pack 4: Murders & Acquisitions (paid) — details to be revealed in an upcoming DevCast
  • Early September — Bounty Pack 5 and Story Pack 2, featuring Loveless the Hacker as the new playable Vault Hunter

It’s a meaningful turnaround from earlier in the year when the game’s content drought was the main topic of conversation. The revised roadmap, the decision to make Bounty Pack 1 free, and now the introduction of flexible DLC pricing all point to Gearbox actively listening to its player base and adjusting. Whether that momentum carries through the fall will depend a lot on how Loveless plays and how well Story Pack 2 lands, but right now the game is in a much stronger position than it was a few months ago.
