TL;DR
- No Harm Done is a Silver achievement in COD Modern Warfare 4
- It unlocks during Mission 3: Following Orders
- You must get the defector’s location without hurting any civilian
- Search the whole first house for contraband before you start any interrogation
- Pick the right dialogue options with the wife and husband — exact choices listed below
- Do NOT shoot anyone or choose the “Run while you can” option for the wife
- Works on any difficulty — no Veteran or Realism needed
- Can be done in the same run as the No Stone Unturned achievement
The No Harm Done achievement in COD Modern Warfare 4 is one of the trickier Silver trophies in the game — not because it is mechanically hard, but because it is easy to fail without realizing it. One wrong dialogue pick or a single shot near a civilian and the achievement is gone for that run.
This guide covers everything you need. The exact order to search the house, every dialogue choice that matters, what to avoid, and how to pair it with the No Stone Unturned achievement in a single playthrough.

What Is the No Harm Done Achievement in MW4?
No Harm Done requires you to obtain the defector’s location in Mission 3: Following Orders without physically harming any civilians. The mission is set in a North Korean village and plays out as a series of house searches and interrogations rather than a shootout.
- Achievement type: Silver (50 Gamerscore on Xbox)
- Mission: Following Orders (Mission 3)
- What you need: Get the husband to reveal the defector’s location through peaceful dialogue
- When it unlocks: The moment the husband names the house next door
- Difficulty required: Any difficulty works
- Missable? No — you can replay via mission select at any time
Can You Get No Harm Done and No Stone Unturned Together?
Yes. Both Silver achievements are in Mission 3: Following Orders and can be unlocked in one single run. In fact, searching the first house thoroughly before the interrogation helps with both at the same time. The contraband you collect gives you more dialogue options during questioning, which makes the peaceful route easier to pull off.
Plan to do both at once and save yourself an extra replay of the mission.
Step 1 — Search the First House Before Talking to Anyone
This is the most important rule for No Harm Done. Do not start any dialogue with the civilians until you have searched the entire first house.
Each item you confiscate adds a new question you can use during the interrogation. Having the heart medicine in particular opens a key dialogue option that makes the husband talk without any threats. If you go straight to the interrogation without searching first, you give yourself fewer peaceful tools to work with.
Here is everything to grab in the first house:
- Heart Medicine (Contraband) — Inside the red lockbox in the first room on the right. Code is 214. You can also shoot the lock off.
- Note From Your Friend (Note) — Also inside the same red lockbox.
- MP3 Player (Contraband) — Bathroom cabinet near the entrance.
- Western Novel (Contraband) — Upper cabinet in the room left of the kitchen.
- Baekseolgi-Tteok Recipe (Note) — Kitchen, left cupboard. This note contains the clue to the lockbox code 214.
- Extra Rations (Contraband) — Kitchen cabinet just above the recipe note.
Make sure you press the Confiscate or Read Note prompt on each item. Just opening a cabinet is not enough — you have to interact with the item itself for it to register.
What Is the Lockbox Code in Following Orders?
The red lockbox code is 214. The clue is hidden in the Baekseolgi-Tteok Recipe in the kitchen. The recipe lists rice flour (2kg), salt (1 tsp), water (1L), and raisins (4 packs), then tells you to skip the salt. Remove the salt measurement and you get 2-1-4. You can also just shoot the lock open if you do not want to puzzle it out.
Step 2 — The Exact Dialogue Choices for No Harm Done
Once you have searched the house completely, it is time to question the couple. Follow these choices exactly and the achievement will unlock without any issues.
Talking to the Wife First
Sergeant Ko holds the husband in the living room. The wife is in the kitchen. Approach her and choose:
- “Please join your husband.”
- Then at the follow-up: “I will not ask again.”
Keep your weapon lowered when doing this. She will walk into the living room unharmed. The achievement is still on track at this point.
Talking to the Husband
Now question the husband in the living room. Use the contraband items to build pressure through dialogue:
- Ask about the South Korean medicine
- You can also ask about the rations, the MP3 player, and the novel if you like
- Then select: “Give up the defector. Now.”
He confesses that the defector fled to the abandoned house next door. No Harm Done unlocks right here, the moment he gives up the location.

What Actions Will Lock You Out of No Harm Done?
There are a few things that will permanently cancel the achievement for that run. All of them involve physically harming or endangering a civilian during the interrogation phase.
- Shooting either civilian — Even a non-vital shot counts as harm and locks the achievement
- Choosing “Run while you can” when speaking to the wife — She runs to the backyard and is killed. No Harm Done becomes unavailable immediately
What does NOT cancel the achievement:
- Aiming your weapon at a civilian without firing — this is fine
- Choosing the Threaten dialogue option — this still qualifies as harmless
- Bringing the wife to the living room with a firm tone — still fine as long as she is not hurt
So the line is physical harm. Raising your weapon or using a harsh tone is acceptable. Pulling the trigger or letting a civilian die is not.
Does the Rest of the Mission Affect No Harm Done?
No. The achievement pops during the interrogation in the first house, before you ever move to the second or third house. Once the husband gives up the defector’s location and the trophy unlocks, you cannot lose it for the rest of the mission.
The choices you make later in the mission — whether to hide the woman in the cellar or bring her out, and what you do at the gallows — do not affect No Harm Done. Those decisions affect the story ending and whether your character survives, but the achievement itself is already in the bag at that point.
What Difficulty Do You Need?
Any difficulty works. Recruit, Regular, Hardened, Veteran — it does not matter. The dialogue choices and the civilian rules are the same on every setting. Play on whatever is comfortable for you.
Realism difficulty is only needed for the Was It Worth It? Gold achievement, which requires completing the full campaign with no HUD. No Harm Done has no difficulty gate at all.
How to Get No Harm Done and No Stone Unturned in One Run
Since both achievements are in the same mission, here is the full combined order to knock them both out at once:
- Enter the first house and search every room before talking to anyone
- Grab all four contraband items — MP3 player, Western novel, extra rations, and heart medicine from the lockbox (code 214)
- Read both notes in the first house — the recipe and the Note From Your Friend
- Speak to the wife: choose “Please join your husband” then “I will not ask again”
- Speak to the husband: ask about the medicine, then select “Give up the defector. Now.” — No Harm Done unlocks here
- Move through the second house (nothing to collect here)
- In the third house, grab the Note From Your Neighbour from the cabinet in the second bedroom
- Take the spare key from the cabinet near the window and unlock the cellar hatch
- Bring the woman out of the cellar, then drop in and read Note From Mom on the shelf — No Stone Unturned unlocks here
Both Silver achievements done in a single run. The mission also rewards a Double XP Token on completion, regardless of your choices.

The Story Choices After No Harm Done
Once No Harm Done is locked in, there are still two story decisions left in the mission that are worth knowing about — not for the achievement, but for the ending of the mission.
The Woman in the Cellar
In the third house, a woman is hiding in a cellar under the kitchen floor. You can bring her out or leave her hidden.
- Bring her out — She is safe, you can drop in and read the final note (needed for No Stone Unturned), and your soldier survives the mission ending
- Leave her hidden — She is found anyway by other soldiers. You lose access to the final note. And regardless of what you do at the gallows, your character is hanged at the end of the mission
The Gallows
Ri orders you to execute the captured defector. If you brought the woman out earlier:
- Execute — Your soldier survives the mission
- Refuse — Ri shoots you. The defector dies anyway. Campaign continues regardless
Neither choice at the gallows unlocks or breaks any additional achievement. It is purely a story decision.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the No Harm Done achievement in MW4?
No Harm Done is a Silver achievement in COD Modern Warfare 4. It requires you to find out where the defector is hiding in Mission 3: Following Orders without physically harming any of the civilians you interrogate.
Does aiming my weapon at civilians cancel No Harm Done?
No. Aiming your weapon at a civilian or using threatening dialogue is fine. The achievement only gets cancelled if you actually shoot a civilian or if the wife is killed (which happens if you choose the “Run while you can” dialogue option).
When does No Harm Done unlock exactly?
It unlocks the moment the husband reveals the defector’s location — right after you select “Give up the defector. Now.” in the interrogation dialogue. The trophy pops immediately after he confesses.
Do I need to find the contraband to unlock No Harm Done?
You do not technically have to collect everything, but you should. The contraband items unlock extra dialogue questions that let you pressure the husband peacefully. Specifically, having the heart medicine and other items means you have more non-violent ways to get the information. Collect everything in the house before you start the interrogation.
Can I get No Harm Done and No Stone Unturned in the same run?
Yes. Both achievements are available in Mission 3: Following Orders. Collect all contraband and notes, use the peaceful interrogation dialogue, and read the final note in the cellar. Both Silver achievements will unlock in one playthrough.
What happens if I choose “Run while you can” when talking to the wife?
She runs to the backyard and is killed by soldiers outside. No Harm Done becomes unavailable immediately and cannot be recovered in that run. You would have to replay the mission via mission select.
Does No Harm Done require a specific difficulty?
No. It works on any difficulty including Recruit. The civilian interaction rules do not change based on your difficulty setting.
Do my choices at the gallows affect No Harm Done?
No. No Harm Done unlocks during the interrogation in the first house, well before you reach the gallows. Whatever you choose at the end of the mission does not affect the achievement in any way.
