The wait is finally over. During the June 9 Nintendo Direct, Toby Fox confirmed that Deltarune Chapter 5 launches on June 24, 2026, at 11:00 AM EDT — a simultaneous worldwide release across every supported platform. For existing owners, it’s a completely free update. No separate purchase, no DLC fee. Just load up the game on June 24 and the new chapter is there.
After years of development updates without a firm date, getting a concrete launch window — and one that’s only two weeks away — caught a lot of players off guard. Here’s everything you need to know heading into release.
Platforms and Pricing
Chapter 5 is available on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC (Windows), and Mac. If you already own Deltarune on any of those platforms, the chapter downloads as a free update automatically.
If you’re jumping in fresh after June 24, the game still costs $24.99 — and that single purchase now includes all five released chapters from the start. Toby Fox committed to this pricing structure back in April 2025, making clear that he would only charge for content that already existed at the time of purchase and would add everything finished afterward at no extra cost. That’s a genuinely fair deal for the amount of content involved.
Chapter 5 also represents the shortest gap between Deltarune installments ever. Chapters 3 and 4 dropped on June 5, 2025 — meaning players are getting Chapter 5 just over a year later. For a series where the gap between Chapters 2 and 3 stretched several years, that turnaround is a significant shift.
The Subtitle and What We Know About the Story
Chapter 5 is subtitled “The Field of Pink and Gold” — a title that lines up with the floral theme visible throughout the new trailer. In the release date newsletter, Toby Fox offered a deliberately vague hint at Chapter 5’s tone, saying: “In Chapter 4, we saw dark clouds on the horizon… That’s why, let’s not look there for now. Let’s turn around and watch the sun, before it goes down completely. Let’s smile again. Let’s have one more fun adventure, okay?”
Fox was equally careful about the trailer itself, noting he avoided showing the most exciting moments on purpose to preserve surprises for first-time players. What the trailer does show includes Kris, Susie, and Ralsei in combat against new enemies, a story segment featuring Ralsei and Susie, returning characters from earlier chapters, what looks like a temple environment, and hints of new mini-game segments — all consistent with the series’ structure of introducing a distinct Dark World theme per chapter.
Based on story threads from Chapter 4 and details scattered across earlier chapters, the Dark World of Chapter 5 is expected to be set in or around Asgore’s flower shop, Flower King — tying directly into the “Field of Pink and Gold” subtitle and the broader narrative threads building toward the series’ conclusion.
Chapter 6 Is Already Teased
Right at the end of the Chapter 5 trailer, a single line appeared on screen: “Chapter 6 is waiting.” That’s not a release date, a window, or a development update — just a confirmation that work is ongoing and the series isn’t stopping at five. Given that Deltarune is planned as a seven-chapter story, Chapter 6 and 7 remain ahead. Whether the pace holds closer to the one-year Chapter 5 turnaround or stretches back toward the longer gaps of earlier episodes is still unknown.
Where the Series Stands Going Into Chapter 5
Deltarune launched its first two chapters as free releases in 2018. Chapters 3 and 4 arrived together as the paid release on June 5, 2025, coinciding with the Nintendo Switch 2 launch — and notably included a room specifically designed around Switch 2’s mouse controls, a detail that rewarded players on the new hardware. The full four-chapter run currently clocks in at just over 16 hours for most players, already making it significantly longer than Undertale’s 7 to 12 hour runtime.
The series follows Kris, Susie, and Ralsei as they travel between the Light World — a town that will feel familiar to Undertale players — and Dark Worlds created from ordinary objects when a Dark Fountain is opened. Each chapter introduces a new Dark World with its own theme, characters, and boss. The combat system is turn-based but meaningfully different from Undertale, built around a party system, magic, and special abilities, with an expanded focus on exploration and puzzles that the original game kept fairly minimal.
Unlike Undertale, Deltarune doesn’t change its ending based on whether you kill or spare enemies in the same fundamental way. The pacifist and genocide routes of the earlier game are replaced by something more layered, with choices feeding into a larger overarching mystery about the nature of the Dark Worlds and Kris themselves — a thread that’s been building across all four chapters and is expected to drive toward the series’ conclusion over the remaining episodes.
Everything Else From the June 9 Nintendo Direct
Deltarune was one of several major RPG announcements out of the June 9 Direct. The showcase also confirmed a Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake exclusive to Switch 2, Final Fantasy Resonance coming October 22 in HD-2D style, Xenoblade Genesis arriving in 2027, and another look at the long-awaited Kingdom Hearts 4, which still doesn’t have a release date. If you’re tracking everything coming to Nintendo platforms this summer, check out the Nintendo Switch 2 DK Challenge event running right now through September 1, and the upcoming Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster on Switch 2 dropping July 23.
For anyone who’s been following Deltarune since Chapter 1 dropped back in 2018, June 24 is a day that’s been a long time coming. Two weeks out, with a free update waiting on every platform — there’s not much reason left to hold off. If you haven’t played Chapters 1 through 4 yet, now is the ideal time to get through them before Chapter 5 lands.
