Nobody had “Vampire Survivors meets Jujutsu Kaisen battle royale” on their Nintendo Direct bingo card, but here we are. During the June 9 Nintendo Direct, Shueisha Games and poncle — the studio behind the genre-defining indie hit Vampire Survivors — officially unveiled Jujutsu Kaisen Rumble: Survivaton. It’s a brand-new game coming to Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Steam in 2026, and it’s doing something genuinely new with the survivors-like formula.
Here’s the full breakdown of how it works, who’s in the roster, and what makes this more than just a reskin of Vampire Survivors with anime characters slapped on top.
What Is Jujutsu Kaisen Rumble: Survivaton?
poncle and Shueisha Games are calling this a “Survivors Royale” — a genre label that doesn’t exist yet, because they’re essentially inventing it. The base foundation is the bullet heaven gameplay loop that made Vampire Survivors a hit: you auto-attack, enemies swarm you in waves, and your job is to move, dodge, and pick upgrades between waves to build a stronger run. You’re not manually targeting anything. The chaos manages itself while you manage positioning and build direction.
The twist that makes Survivaton its own thing is the battle royale structure layered on top. Up to eight players compete in the same match simultaneously, all fighting their own waves of Cursed Spirits while also racing to outscore each other. It’s not a direct PvP shooter — you’re not spawning in a map trying to kill other players directly. You’re competing on a score and survival basis, where lasting longer and racking up more points than your opponents is how you advance.
How the Rule Addition Mechanic Works
The most interesting system in Survivaton is the Rule Addition mechanic, which is directly inspired by the Culling Game arc from the Jujutsu Kaisen manga. When a player accumulates enough points during a match, they can spend those points to add a new rule to the game — a change that affects all players in the lobby, not just themselves.
This is where Survivaton gets genuinely strategic. A well-timed Rule Addition can shift the conditions of the match in your favor while putting everyone else at a disadvantage. It introduces a real mind game element that the base Vampire Survivors formula never had: you’re not just optimizing your own build, you’re also watching what your opponents are doing and deciding when to use your Rule Additions to disrupt them most effectively.
When the match narrows down to the final two players, they face off in a direct 1-vs-1 duel to decide the winner. The exact mechanics of this duel haven’t been detailed yet beyond the announcement, but it’s the clearest departure from anything in the standard survivors-like playbook and the moment all that build optimization and Rule Addition strategy pays off — or falls apart.
The Full Confirmed Roster
Survivaton launches with over 20 playable characters from across the Jujutsu Kaisen roster. Confirmed characters include:
- Yuji Itadori
- Satoru Gojo
- Megumi Fushiguro
- Nobara Kugisaki
- Kento Nanami
- Kinji Hakari
- Choso
The full roster beyond these seven hasn’t been named yet, but with 20-plus characters confirmed at launch, there’s plenty of room for additional fan favorites from the anime and manga. Each character plays differently from the others, with move sets designed to reflect their abilities as shown in the source material. Unlocking new characters requires meeting specific in-game conditions rather than simply purchasing them or unlocking through time-gated progression — which should add meaningful replayability once you’re comfortable with the core loop.
Domain Expansion and Black Flash as Special Moves
For JJK fans, the big question with any licensed game is always whether it captures the feel of the source material. Based on what’s been shown, poncle put real work into making each character feel like their anime counterpart rather than just a different sprite using the same move set.
The two confirmed special mechanics pulled from the series are Domain Expansion and Black Flash, both of which function as high-power moves that require filling a dedicated gauge during a match before they can be activated. These aren’t just flashy animations — they’re powerful enough to affect nearby opponents in the lobby, meaning a well-timed Domain Expansion or Black Flash can damage other players’ runs as well as clearing your own enemies. That dual-use offensive potential ties directly back into the competitive scoring layer of the Survivors Royale format.
Single-Player Mode Is Also There
Not everyone wants to compete against seven other players. Survivaton includes a solo mode for players who prefer the classic survivors-like experience without the PvP pressure. The full roster and mechanics are presumably available in single-player, making it a valid way to learn characters and builds before jumping into competitive matches. The game supports 1 to 8 players, so the spectrum from full solo to max lobby size is fully covered.
poncle’s Track Record in 2026
This is already shaping up to be one of poncle’s busiest years. Vampire Survivors broke out in 2022 and has continued to grow with DLC and updates ever since. Earlier in 2026, the studio released Vampire Crawlers, a dungeon-crawling spin-off that applied the survivors-like formula to a new structural format. Now, Survivaton takes the same DNA and applies it to a fully licensed IP with a competitive multiplayer hook the studio hasn’t attempted before.
It’s a bigger swing than anything poncle has done previously. Working with Shueisha Games on an officially licensed property with eight-player online infrastructure, anime-accurate character representations, and a novel genre label is a meaningful step up in scope from where the studio started. Whether the Survivors Royale concept lands as cleanly as the original Vampire Survivors formula did is the question — but the building blocks look solid.
Release Window and Platforms
Jujutsu Kaisen Rumble: Survivaton is confirmed for 2026 across Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam. An exact release date hasn’t been set yet, but more details are expected as the year progresses. The game will launch with support for nine languages at release: Japanese, English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, and Korean.
Pricing and rating are still TBD, but given poncle’s history with accessible pricing on Vampire Survivors and its DLC, expectations are reasonable for a competitive price point.
