If you’ve been refreshing for any scrap of an official release date on God of War Laufey, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier just made the wait feel a little shorter. In a recent video breaking down how GTA 6 is reshaping the 2026 and 2027 release calendar, Schreier said he “wouldn’t be surprised if God of War Laufey gets announced for February or March 2027 pretty soon.” That’s the most specific window anyone with credibility has attached to the game so far, and given Schreier’s track record — he was among the first to accurately report on Laufey before its official State of Play reveal — this is worth taking seriously.
What Schreier Actually Said
The comments came in the context of a broader discussion about the GTA 6 effect — how Rockstar’s November 19 release is pushing studios to either rush out releases before it or delay entirely into early 2027. Schreier’s point was that February and March 2027 are shaping up to be genuinely crowded, as game after game has pushed out of the GTA 6 window and landed in that same opening stretch of next year.
In his words: “There are a few more hitting in September and that is going to lead to some losers because again if you are trying to get that customer who only buys two games a year, you are probably not going to have much luck. That is quite a lottery ticket. So some of those games will inevitably slip and what’s going to happen is that February and March will be super crowded. I mentioned God of War Laufey. I wouldn’t be surprised if that gets announced for February or March pretty soon.”
Schreier also added that an announcement could be coming soon — not just a release date confirmation eventually, but a reveal of that date in the near future. That gives PlayStation fans something specific to watch for in the coming months.
Other Sources Are Pointing the Same Direction
Schreier isn’t the only credible voice lining up behind an early 2027 window. Insider NateTheHate, who correctly leaked in March 2026 that the game would centre on Faye rather than Kratos, confirmed on social media in June that Santa Monica Studio was targeting a first-half 2027 launch — though he noted plans could have shifted since he received that information. Separately, another source known as Alir pointed specifically to Q1 2027 as the target window.
Earlier, Schreier himself had already established that the game was “definitely not” a 2028 title and was “not years away” — which, combined with the new February/March comments, paints a pretty clear picture of where this lands on the calendar.
Why February or March Makes a Lot of Sense
There are a few reasons why early 2027 — and specifically Q1 — lines up well for God of War Laufey beyond just avoiding GTA 6.
Santa Monica Studio has a strong historical preference for late winter and spring launches. The original God of War trilogy all launched in March. God of War 2018 came out in late April. Even God of War: Ascension launched in March globally. The only major exception to this pattern was God of War Ragnarök, which shipped in November 2022. Four out of five mainline entries have launched in March or April, so a Q1/Q2 2027 window fits the studio’s historical rhythm almost exactly.
There’s also a scheduling argument for April specifically. God of War 2018 launched on April 20, 2018, and God of War Laufey runs as a direct parallel story to that game — beginning at the exact moment of Faye’s funeral pyre at the start of the 2018 entry. Releasing both games in April, eight years apart, would be a neat piece of symmetry that Sony’s marketing team would almost certainly appreciate.

Early 2027 Is Already Stacked — Laufey Adds to the Pile
Here’s the thing though: February 2027 is already a war zone. Fable, Metro 2039, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, and Persona 4 Revival are all confirmed for February 2027. Fable’s delay in particular was tied almost directly to the studio wanting distance from GTA 6’s November launch. On top of that, Lords of the Fallen 2 and Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember are also targeting the first half of 2027.
Adding God of War Laufey into that February cluster would create one of the most competitive release windows in recent memory. March is currently cleaner — nothing major has been locked in yet — which is probably why Schreier included it as the alternative. From Sony’s perspective, March might actually be the smarter play purely from a competitive standpoint, giving Laufey more breathing room than it would get going head-to-head with Fable.
That said, game delays are always possible. Some of those February titles could slip into March, and some March speculation could push further. The calendar for early 2027 is still very much in motion, and the GTA 6 domino effect could keep reshuffling release dates for months yet.
What We Know About God of War Laufey So Far
Sony revealed God of War Laufey at the June 2026 PlayStation State of Play with a nearly 24-minute gameplay presentation — an unusually substantial showing that suggested the game is well into development. The game stars Faye, Kratos’ deceased wife, as she navigates the Everywhen — the afterlife of the gods — running as a parallel story to the events of both God of War 2018 and Ragnarök.
Two new gods were introduced as antagonists: Sekhmet, the Egyptian lion-headed goddess of war and vengeance, and Begtse, a Tibetan-Mongolian god of war who refers to Faye as a “godling” in the reveal. Faye is also accompanied by new companions Phranque the Cube and Rue. The game cross-pollinates mythologies in a way the series hasn’t done before, moving well beyond the Greek and Norse settings fans already know. The gameplay itself drew strong praise for its aerial combat and soul mechanics, even among some of those who were sceptical about moving away from Kratos.
Santa Monica Studio has also confirmed it has been planning this game since 2018, which lines up with how polished and far-along that gameplay presentation felt.
There’s no official release date yet, and Sony hasn’t confirmed the 2027 window publicly. But with Schreier saying an announcement could come “pretty soon,” this is one to watch closely heading into The Game Awards season and any upcoming PlayStation State of Play events.
