Sony wasn’t done with the GTA 6 announcements at the September 3 State of Play. Alongside everything else revealed, PlayStation confirmed two limited edition DualSense Wireless Controllers themed around Grand Theft Auto VI — one in black, one in white — both drenched in Vice City energy. Pre-orders open on September 10, and they launch alongside the game on November 19, 2026.
Here’s everything confirmed about the designs, pricing, where to buy, and what you need to know before pre-order day arrives.
The Designs — What Do They Actually Look Like?
Both controllers share the same core design language while using their base colours to represent two different sides of Vice City’s identity. Sony’s PlayStation Blog describes the intent specifically: the White Limited Edition represents Vice City at daybreak — the sun-soaked, palm-lined streets of Leonida in the morning light. The Black Limited Edition represents the energy of the city’s nightlife — neon-lit, electric, and distinctly after-dark.
Design details confirmed on both controllers:
- Colour-shifting iridescent finish: A shimmering finish that transitions between purple and blue depending on the viewing angle — the kind of pearlescent effect that captures Vice City’s neon aesthetic without going overboard
- Textured palm leaf detailing: The palm tree motif from GTA 6’s branding appears as raised texture across the controller’s surface, giving it tactile detail beyond just a paint job
- GTA VI Roman numerals on the touchpad: The “VI” rendered in the game’s signature font sits at the centre of the touchpad, surrounded by additional palm tree styling
- Official Grand Theft Auto VI branding: The game’s name appears on the back of both controllers
- Pink/colourful accent buttons: The D-pad and face buttons feature neon-accented colouring on both designs
Internally, these are standard DualSense controllers — the same haptic actuators, adaptive trigger mechanism, speaker, and microphone as the regular model. There are no hardware upgrades or additional features beyond the cosmetic design. The price premium over a standard DualSense ($69.99) reflects the limited edition branding and design, not any performance difference.
Pre-Order and Release Details
Pre-orders for both controllers open on September 10, 2026 at the following times:
- United States: 7:00am PT / 10:00am ET
- United Kingdom, France, Germany, Austria, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg: 10:00am local time
Both controllers are available for pre-order exclusively through PlayStation Direct (direct.playstation.com) in those regions during the pre-order window. The Black Limited Edition is confirmed as a PlayStation Direct exclusive in the US, UK, and major European markets — meaning it won’t be available at third-party retailers. The White Limited Edition will be available at participating retailers in addition to PlayStation Direct after launch.
Both controllers launch on November 19, 2026 — the same day as GTA 6 itself. Pre-orders placed now won’t arrive until launch day, or potentially a day or two earlier depending on shipping.
Pricing
- United States: $84.99
- United Kingdom: £74.99
- Europe: €84.99
- Japan: ¥12,480 (including tax)
That’s approximately $15 above the standard DualSense MSRP in the US — a cosmetic premium that’s consistent with previous limited edition PlayStation controller releases.
How Fast Will These Sell Out?
Very fast. The honest answer based on every comparable limited edition PlayStation hardware release is: act on September 10 at opening time or risk missing out entirely. The PlayStation 5 30th Anniversary Bundle infamously sold out in seconds earlier in 2026. The Icon Blue Special Edition DualSense, a far lower-profile release, sold out within an hour of its August 6 launch this year. A limited edition controller tied to the single most anticipated game release of 2026 is going to generate significantly more demand than either of those.
The Black Limited Edition’s PlayStation Direct exclusivity makes it particularly vulnerable to selling out quickly — there are no secondary retail channels to fall back on if Direct stock runs out. If you want the black version specifically, September 10 at 10am is the only window that matters.
Sony has not confirmed specific production quantities for either controller, describing them only as “limited quantities” in the official PlayStation Direct listing language.
Why These Controllers Matter Beyond the Design
These controllers aren’t just collectibles — they’re part of a broader story about Sony’s marketing position with GTA 6. From the moment GTA 6 pre-orders opened, PlayStation has been emphasising the “plays best on PlayStation” angle, with all official trailers and marketing recorded on PS5 hardware. When pre-orders opened in June 2026, the PS5 version was reportedly outselling the Xbox version significantly.
The DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive trigger implementation is also genuinely exclusive to PS5 — Xbox players will not have that layer of physical feedback in the game. GTA 6 is confirmed to use those features meaningfully, which makes playing the game on a DualSense a different physical experience from playing on Xbox. Whether that justifies the platform preference is a personal call, but Sony’s marketing push is backed by a real hardware differentiator.
It’s worth noting for context: GTA 6 launches at 30 frames per second on consoles at launch, confirmed by Rockstar’s Rob Nelson. No additional performance modes have been committed to at launch, meaning the haptic experience is the primary differentiator for PS5 players at day one.
Part of a Bigger GTA 6 Collector Push
These controllers join a wave of GTA 6 physical products hitting the market around the game’s November launch. Sony’s broader partnership with Rockstar has produced some of the most prominent gaming marketing of 2026 — the Netflix Extended Look that temporarily crashed the streaming platform, the ongoing Cyberleek investigation, and now a dedicated State of Play slot with hardware reveals to match.
The same State of Play that revealed these controllers also confirmed the official Lego PlayStation set and several other major PlayStation announcements — it was one of the most packed State of Play broadcasts in recent memory. October is going to be a very busy month for PlayStation collectors between the Lego set launching on the 1st and GTA 6 accessories arriving in November.
Set your alarm for September 10. Both the Black and White Limited Edition DualSense controllers are available to pre-order via PlayStation Direct, and given the trajectory of every limited PlayStation hardware drop this year, anyone who hesitates is likely to spend the next few months watching scalper prices on resale sites.
