Key Takeaways:
- Rockstar has confirmed that GTA 6’s Leonida will not include versions of Disney World, Universal Studios, SeaWorld, or Florida’s Space Coast — meaning no Cape Canaveral launch pad either.
- The omission is deliberate, not a technical limitation — central Florida and the Orlando theme park cluster are simply not among Leonida’s six confirmed regions.
- Rockstar SVP of Environment Art Paul MacPherson says the team “constantly evaluates” what serves the game’s design and narrative, promising a “full Florida experience” despite the absences.
- What Leonida does have: Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers wetlands, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga National Park — plus a zoo, over 170 animal species, nightclubs, and in-game social media.
- Rockstar hasn’t ruled out Easter eggs or subtle Disney parodies — the studio did reference Fred’s Pictures (a Disney nod) in GTA 5, and a “Fairyland” location appeared on an early leaked map.
- GTA 6 launches November 19, 2026, exclusively on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Of all the things fans have speculated about in the years leading up to GTA 6, the question of whether Rockstar would let players wreak havoc inside a Disney World parody was one of the more interesting ones. The answer, as of the Game Informer cover story released September 29, is a clear no — and Rockstar has explained exactly why.
What Rockstar Said
Game Informer put the question directly to Paul MacPherson, Rockstar’s Senior Vice President of Environment Art, asking whether Florida’s central region — Orlando, its famous theme parks, and surrounding tourist landmarks — would appear anywhere in GTA 6’s fictional state of Leonida. MacPherson’s answer was measured but unambiguous.
“We have to constantly evaluate the diversity of landscapes, towns, structures, landmarks, vistas, plant species, rock formations and everything else before we work with design and narrative to distill a list down that best works with and serves the game’s needs,” he said. “So, while we may not have those exact locations, everything we have is geared to getting that full Florida experience!”
The “those exact locations” phrasing is doing a lot of work in that sentence. Disney World, Universal Studios, SeaWorld, and Florida’s Space Coast — including Cape Canaveral’s historic launch pads — are all out. Central Florida as a region doesn’t appear in any of Leonida’s six confirmed areas, and none of the confirmed map sections cover the Orlando cluster.
What’s Not in Leonida’s Map
To understand the gap, it helps to know what Leonida’s confirmed regions actually cover. The six areas Rockstar has officially named are Vice City (the Miami-inspired city at the heart of the game), the Leonida Keys (the Florida Keys equivalent running south), the Grassrivers (the Everglades analog), Port Gellhorn (a Gulf Coast working-city region), Ambrosia (rural central Florida), and Mount Kalaga National Park. None of these regions sit where Orlando would be on a real Florida map, and none of them include anything resembling the theme park corridor that makes Central Florida one of the most visited tourist destinations on the planet.
The Space Coast omission is its own separate loss. Cape Canaveral — home to NASA’s Kennedy Space Center and one of the most iconic American landmarks in existence — would have been a natural fit for Rockstar’s brand of satire. A fictional space agency getting blown up, or a rocket heist, or even just the visual spectacle of a launch site, feels like exactly the kind of thing GTA would do brilliantly. It’s not happening in this version of Florida.
Why It Makes Sense — and Why It Still Stings
Rockstar’s reasoning is completely defensible from a design standpoint. The original GTA 5 set itself in Los Santos — based on Los Angeles — and also skipped Disneyland, which sits in Anaheim just 30 miles from downtown LA. Instead, the studio included Fred’s Pictures, a clear Disney reference woven into the world’s entertainment industry satire. The game didn’t need to literally recreate Disneyland to make its point about corporate entertainment culture; it could do it more cleverly through references and parody.
The same logic applies in Leonida. Recreating a massive theme park that players would ride once and never return to — a specific problem GTA 5 had with its Venice Beach pier rollercoaster and ferris wheel — isn’t the best use of a development team that has spent years building one of the most ambitious open worlds in gaming history. A Disney World-sized space would need to justify its existence through gameplay, and that’s a significant investment of resources for an attraction that would likely become a novelty rather than a destination.
That said, Rockstar hasn’t officially ruled out subtle nods or Easter eggs. A 2023 map constructed from leaked development materials showed a location labeled “Fairyland” in the northern part of Leonida — which many fans read as a Disney parody placeholder. Whether that made it into the final game, whether it’s a small location rather than a full park, or whether it vanished entirely in later development is something only the November 19 launch will confirm. Rockstar is also famously good at hiding references in plain sight, so a Disney dig of some kind almost certainly exists somewhere in Leonida — it just won’t be a full park you can walk through.
What GTA 6 Is Offering Instead
The absence of theme parks doesn’t mean GTA 6 is short on things to do or explore. What Rockstar has confirmed across the six regions of Leonida adds up to a genuinely enormous and dense world. There are over 170 animal species spread across the map, including rare and legendary variants that can be studied and tracked — and a fully explorable zoo somewhere in Leonida for players to visit. Wildlife plays a much bigger role in GTA 6 than any previous entry, with flamingos wading through the Grassrivers wetlands, alligators lurking in shallow water, and underwater areas that hold secrets and treasures for divers to find.
Beyond the natural world, the game includes nightclubs, strip clubs (which Rockstar developers apparently visited personally during research trips to ensure authenticity), an in-game social media system woven into the world’s activities, a dynamic weather system featuring hurricanes and tropical storms, and fast travel options. The confirmed regions alone — the Leonida Keys’ island chain, the Grassrivers swamps, Mount Kalaga’s highlands, the Gulf Coast of Port Gellhorn — represent a wider variety of environments than any previous GTA map has managed.
GTA 6 launches exclusively on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026, with no PC release confirmed for launch. The theme parks aren’t going to be there. But if Rockstar delivers on everything else it’s been describing, the map is going to be more than enough to keep players occupied for a very long time.
