So you’ve been fishing your heart out in Heartopia and now you’re wondering what to do with all those fish flopping around in your backpack? Good news—turning them into cold, hard Gold is super straightforward once you know where to go.

If you’re working on the early Resident Request called “Settling Down,” you’ll need to rack up at least 1200 Gold by selling fish or crops. You’ll also need to unlock four home plots (which we’ve broken down in this handy guide). Let’s dive into the easiest way to cash in those catches and keep the Gold flowing.

Where to Sell Fish in Heartopia

Meet Your New Best Friend: Albert Jr., the Gold Merchant

Here’s the deal: there’s an NPC who will buy basically anything from your inventory—fish, crops, cooked food, furniture, materials, random junk you’ve collected—and pay you in Gold. His name is Albert Jr., and he’s your go-to guy for converting items into currency.

Albert Jr. is a wandering merchant—he doesn’t have a fixed spot in the world. Here’s the fastest way to track him down:

    1. Open your map (press M on PC) and scan for Albert Jr.’s portrait icon—his location updates as he moves around town
    2. Tap or click his icon on the map and select the Track option to get a path marker
    3. Use your vehicle to reach him faster—since he’s always on the move, a scooter or sedan cuts travel time significantly

Alternatively, if you’re working on the “Settling Down” quest:

    1. Open Your Watch (hit Tab on PC, or tap the watch icon on mobile)
    2. Click on Memo to pull up your Main and Side Quests
    3. Tab over to Daily Resident Requests (use Q/E to navigate the columns)
    4. Track the “Settling Down” quest—the game will point you right to Albert Jr.

At the very start of your adventure, Albert Jr. usually hangs out near your home. But as you progress, he roams the town. The map method above is the most reliable way to find him at any time.

How to Sell Your Fish (Step-by-Step)

Once you’ve located Albert Jr., the actual selling process is dead simple:

    1. Talk to Albert Jr. and tap the chat icon to open his dialogue
    2. Select “Sell Items” from the dialogue options
    3. Review your inventory—each item shows its individual Gold value. The total Gold amount you’ll receive appears in the bottom-left corner before you confirm
    4. Select items to sell—you can sell multiple items at once. Select everything you want to offload in one go for efficiency
    5. Confirm the sale and watch that Gold counter climb

Pro Tip: Don’t just dump everything mindlessly. Some items are needed for crafting, quests, or cooking recipes later, so double-check before selling rare materials. Fish and basic crops? Usually safe to sell, but read the next section first—because how you sell fish matters a lot for maximizing Gold.

Cook vs. Sell Raw: How to Maximize Fish Value

This is the single most important money tip in Heartopia when it comes to fish: cook low-value fish before selling them instead of selling raw. The difference is dramatic.

For example, a raw Crucian Carp sells for around 80 Gold. Cook it into Fried Crucian Carp, and it sells for roughly 350 Gold—more than four times the value. This principle applies broadly: cooking common fish into dishes multiplies their sell value significantly. Check out our Heartopia cooking recipes guide and our Mushroom Pie recipe guide to learn the most profitable dishes to make.

The exception: Rare and legendary fish worth 100 Gold or more (like Rainbow Fish, Giant Oarfish, Legendary Koi, Swordfish, or Bluefin Tuna) are often worth more sold raw than cooked. Their base value is already so high that cooking doesn’t add proportional value. Sell these raw, and cook your common catches instead.

What Fish Sell for the Most Gold in Heartopia?

Fish prices in Heartopia are based on base value multiplied by star rating. The star system works like this:

    • 1★ = Base price
    • 2★ = 1.5× base price
    • 3★ = 2× base price
    • 4★ = 4× base price (unlocked at Fishing Level 4)
    • 5★ = 8× base price (unlocked at Fishing Level 6)

This means that upgrading your fishing hobby is one of the best long-term investments for income—catching higher-star fish dramatically increases each sale. Even one 5-star rare fish can be worth more than an entire inventory of common 1-star catches. Our hobbies unlock and upgrade guide covers how to level up fishing efficiently.

Here are the most valuable fish by tier:

    Top-Tier (Legendary / Rare):

    • Rainbow Fish – 5,000 Gold (fixed price, requires Rainbow weather)
    • Giant Oarfish – up to 4,280 Gold at 5★
    • Nursehound – up to 4,280 Gold at 5★
    • Legendary Koi, Swordfish, Bluefin Tuna – fixed high base prices, Rainbow weather required

    Mid-Tier (Great for regular farming):

    • Tilapia – up to 1,280 Gold at 4★ (best with Mermaid Attractor tool)
    • Edible Frog – up to 1,280 Gold at 4★
    • Golden King Crab – available all day during Rainbow weather, very farmable

    Beginner-Friendly (Level 1–3):

    • Striped Red Mullet – 320 to 1,280 Gold depending on star rating, easy to catch early
    • Crucian Carp – catch rate increases during rain; better cooked (~350G) than sold raw (~80G)

Fishing tip: To maximize rare fish spawns, use Mermaid Perfume (also called Mermaid Attractor), a tool that helps fish spawn faster. It’s available from Vanya, the Fishing Hobby mentor, using in-game Gold and Wishing Stars. Also keep an eye on the weather forecast—Rainbow weather opens up the most valuable fishing opportunities in the game.

    Completing the “Settling Down” Quest

To wrap up this Resident Request, you need to hit two targets:

    • Earn 1,200 Gold (by selling fish, crops, or other items—any combination counts)
    • Unlock four home plots (here’s how to do that)

Once you’ve checked both boxes, head back and complete the quest to snag these sweet rewards:

    • 15 Contribution Medals (use these to level up your D.G. Member’s Guild rank)
    • 5 Wishing Stars (perfect for buying clothing and furniture)
    • 2,000 Gold (because more money is always better)

That’s a solid haul for what’s essentially an early-game tutorial quest. The Contribution Medals are especially valuable for unlocking more home plots and hobby features, so don’t sleep on this one.

Why Selling Fish is Actually Smart

Beyond just completing quests, getting into the habit of selling surplus fish and crops is a smart way to keep your Gold reserves healthy. You’ll need Gold for tons of stuff in Heartopia:

    • Buying new outfits (gotta look good, right? Change up your hairstyle too)
    • Purchasing plots to expand your home (plots start at 8,000 Gold each)
    • Purchasing rare items from vendors
    • Upgrading your tools and gear
    • Buying seeds and farming supplies (see our wheat guide for one of the best early crops)

One more bonus: if you have a full D.G. Membership, you’ll receive a 1.1× sell price bonus when selling items to Albert Jr. It’s a small but meaningful boost that adds up over time if you’re selling frequently.

Fishing is one of the most chill ways to grind Gold in the early game, especially if you’re playing solo or with friends. Just cast your line, zone out for a bit, and let the Gold pile up. Quick Tips for Maximizing Fish Income

    • Cook common fish before selling—the value jump from raw to cooked is dramatic (e.g. Crucian Carp: ~80G raw vs. ~350G cooked)
    • Sell rare fish (100G+) raw—Rainbow Fish, Giant Oarfish, and similar legendary catches are worth more uncooked
    • Upgrade your fishing hobby—higher fishing levels unlock 4★ and 5★ catches, which can multiply base prices by up to 8×
    • Use Mermaid Perfume—purchase from fishing mentor Vanya to increase fish spawn rates, especially helpful during limited weather windows
    • Watch the weather—Rainbow weather unlocks the most valuable fish in the game. Plan your fishing sessions around the forecast
    • Bring repair kits and bait—tools lose durability. Running out mid-session wastes precious rare weather windows
    • Sell in bulk—select all your sellable items at once when visiting Albert Jr. to save trips
    • Check for active codes regularly—we’ve got a full updated list here that includes freebies you can convert to resources
    • Balance fishing with farming—crops like wheat and black truffles also sell well. Check our Black Truffle farming guide for high-value crop options

    FAQ’s

Can I sell fish to anyone other than Albert Jr.?

Albert Jr. is the primary Gold Merchant and your main way to sell fish and items for Gold. As you progress, other special merchants may offer unique item exchanges, but for straightforward item-to-Gold selling, Albert Jr. is your go-to. Note that D.G. Full Members receive a 1.1× sell price bonus when selling to him.

What fish sell for the most Gold in Heartopia?

The most valuable fish are Rainbow Fish (5,000 Gold, requires Rainbow weather), Giant Oarfish and Nursehound (up to 4,280 Gold at 5★), and Golden King Crab (available all day during Rainbow weather). For regular farming, Tilapia and Edible Frog reach up to 1,280 Gold at 4★. Fish prices scale with star rating: 2★=1.5×, 3★=2×, 4★=4×, 5★=8× the base price. Upgrading your fishing hobby level is the best way to consistently catch higher-star fish.

Do I have to sell fish to complete “Settling Down,” or can I just sell crops?

Either works! The quest just requires you to earn 1,200 Gold total—it doesn’t matter if it’s from fish, crops, or a mix of both. Pick whichever farming method you enjoy more.

Where is Albert Jr. if he’s not near my home?

Open your world map (M on PC) and look for Albert Jr.’s portrait icon. He roams around town continuously, so his location changes throughout the day. Tap his icon on the map and select Track to get a path marker, then use your vehicle to reach him faster.

Should I cook fish before selling in Heartopia?

Generally yes—cooking common fish dramatically increases their sell value (e.g. Crucian Carp: ~80 Gold raw vs. ~350 Gold cooked). The exception is rare or legendary fish worth 100 Gold or more (Rainbow Fish, Giant Oarfish, etc.)—these are better sold raw since cooking doesn’t proportionally increase their already-high value.

How do star ratings affect fish sell prices in Heartopia?

Star ratings multiply the base price of a fish: 2★ = 1.5× base, 3★ = 2× base, 4★ = 4× base, 5★ = 8× base. You unlock 4-star catches at Fishing Level 4 and 5-star catches at Fishing Level 6. Upgrading your fishing hobby is one of the best long-term investments for Gold income.

Selling fish in Heartopia is your ticket to early-game financial freedom. Track down Albert Jr. on your map, use your vehicle to reach him quickly, offload your catches (cooked where possible), and watch the Gold roll in. Happy fishing!
