Hell Let Loose Vietnam crossplay is one of the biggest changes the series has ever made. Hell Let Loose: Vietnam launched on August 13, 2026 with full cross-platform support between PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S from day one. The original Hell Let Loose never allowed PC and console players to share servers. Vietnam changes that completely. Whether you are playing on Steam, the Microsoft Store, the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series X|S, you can now fight in the same 50v50 matches as players on every other platform. This guide covers exactly how it works, how to control your matchmaking experience, and what you need to know before you squad up with friends on other platforms.
Is Hell Let Loose Vietnam Crossplay?
Yes. Hell Let Loose: Vietnam supports full crossplay across all supported platforms. PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S players can all join the same servers and fight in the same 100-player matches. This was confirmed by Team17 in their July 31, 2026 developer Q&A and is active from day one of the full release.
This is a significant shift for the series. The original Hell Let Loose kept PC players in separate servers from console players. Vietnam removes that wall entirely. A larger shared player pool means shorter queue times, more active servers at all hours, and no barrier when your squad is split across platforms.
Which Platforms Support Crossplay?
Crossplay works across the following platforms at launch:
- PC via Steam
- PC via Microsoft Store
- PC via Epic Games Store
- PlayStation 5
- Xbox Series X|S
All three PC storefronts share the same matchmaking pool. It does not matter whether you bought the game on Steam, Epic, or the Microsoft Store — you are in the same PC player base with no restrictions between storefronts.
The game is current-generation only. PS4 and Xbox One are not supported and are not part of the crossplay pool. There are no plans for last-gen versions.
You can grab the game for PlayStation from the Hell Let Loose: Vietnam PlayStation Store page, or for Xbox from the Hell Let Loose: Vietnam Xbox Store page.
How to Enable or Disable Crossplay
Crossplay is on by default. Most official servers run with full cross-platform matchmaking enabled. You do not need to do anything to play with people on other platforms — it happens automatically when you join a standard server.
If you want to control who you play against, you do it through the server browser filter rather than a single toggle switch. Here is how it works:
- Click Enlist on the main menu to open the server browser.
- Find the Server Type filter on the right side of the screen.
- Choose from the available options: Console + PC (full crossplay), PC Only, or Console Only.
- Select your preferred server type and join any server from the filtered list.
Every server in the browser is clearly labeled so you always know what type of match you are joining before you deploy. The server tags in the browser use letters to indicate platform: X for Xbox only, P for PS5 only, C for console crossplay, and no such marker for full crossplay servers.
If you want to host a community server yourself, you get a direct option to set it as full crossplay, PC-only, or console-only when you configure it. The majority of official servers run with full crossplay enabled.
How to Play With Friends Across Platforms
All social features in Hell Let Loose: Vietnam run through Epic Games Services. Before you can invite friends, form a squad, or queue as a group, every player needs a free Epic Games account linked to their game. This applies regardless of which platform you are on — Steam, PlayStation, or Xbox.
Once your Epic account is linked, here is how to squad up with friends:
- Open the friends menu using the helmet icon on the main menu screen.
- Add your friends. Note that you can only add someone who is currently on the main menu of Hell Let Loose: Vietnam at the same time as you.
- Invite friends into your unit from the friends list.
- As party leader, start queuing for a server. Your full group joins the server together as a single unit.
- You can lock the unit before joining so no random players slot into your squad during the match.
The friends screen also lets you set lobby access to Invite Only and control open mic settings for the group. Once your unit is locked and queued, everyone drops into the same server and the same squad automatically.
Aim Assist and the Mouse vs Controller Question
Cross-platform play between PC and console players raises a fairness question that every tactical shooter has to address. PC players generally use a mouse and keyboard, which offers more precise aiming. Console players use controllers. In a game where one or two shots can drop you, that difference matters.
Hell Let Loose: Vietnam addresses this in two ways.
First, console players on cross-platform servers have access to an aim assist system. This helps close the gap between controller and mouse input when you are matched against PC players. You do not have to give up on mixed-platform servers just because you are playing with a controller.
Second, platform-specific server options exist for players who prefer a level input field. PC-only servers remove controller players entirely. Console-only servers remove mouse and keyboard players. You pick your preferred environment through the server browser before every match.
It is worth noting that Hell Let Loose: Vietnam is not a game where flick aim decides most fights. Positioning, communication, and squad coordination matter far more than raw aiming precision. In the jungle, knowing where to build a Garrison and staying with your squad leader counts for more than hitting every shot. The input advantage gap between platforms is smaller here than it would be in a faster shooter.
That said, the PC community has mixed feelings about aim assist on cross-platform servers, and those conversations are ongoing. Expression Games has confirmed strong post-launch support patches, so the balance of crossplay may be adjusted based on player feedback after launch.
Cross-Progression: Does Progress Carry Between Platforms?
Cross-progression in Hell Let Loose: Vietnam is limited. Whether your rank, unlocks, and cosmetics follow you depends entirely on which platforms and storefronts are involved.
What Carries Over
Progress carries over within the same ecosystem. A Microsoft Store PC account and an Xbox Series X|S account share progression because both sit inside the Microsoft ecosystem. If you play on PC via the Microsoft Store and then switch to Xbox, your rank and unlocks follow you.
What Does Not Carry Over
Progress does not transfer between Steam and PlayStation 5. Those platforms use separate account infrastructures and do not share data. If you play on Steam and then switch to PS5, you start fresh on the new platform.
DLC and cosmetics are tied to the storefront where you purchased them. A cosmetic pack bought on Steam will not appear on your PS5 account. This applies to all paid content.
If cross-progression matters to you, buy on platforms inside the same ecosystem. Xbox and Microsoft Store PC is the clearest example of a shared progression path. Steam and PS5 are separate.
Why Crossplay Matters for Hell Let Loose: Vietnam
In a 50-versus-50 tactical shooter, the health of the player base directly affects your experience. Servers need 100 live players to run a full match. If the player base is fragmented across platforms that cannot see each other, finding full servers gets harder over time — especially in less popular time zones or outside peak hours.
Crossplay solves this. By combining PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S into one shared pool, every server has a larger draw to pull from. Queue times are shorter. Servers fill faster. The game stays playable around the clock regardless of what platform you are on.
The crossplay playtest that ran from July 24 to 27, 2026 — the first time all three platforms shared live servers — drew enough players to stress-test the infrastructure properly before the August 13 launch. That test shaped the crossplay system that shipped in the final build.
Crossplay Server Types: Quick Reference
Here is a simple breakdown of the three server types and when to use each one:
- Full Crossplay (default): PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S all in the same match. Largest player pool. Best for finding matches quickly and for squads split across platforms.
- PC Only: Removes console players. All players use mouse and keyboard. Best for players who want input parity or prefer a PC-focused experience.
- Console Only: Removes PC players. All players use controllers. Best for console players who want to avoid mouse and keyboard opponents. Includes Xbox-and-PS5 together or individual platform variants.
There is no XP penalty for playing on any server type. Community servers and official servers reward the same amount of XP, though community servers may have their own rules like language requirements or specific gameplay settings.
Crossplay and the Original Hell Let Loose: What Changed
The original Hell Let Loose launched on PC in 2019 and came to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in October 2021. Even after the console release, PC and console players never shared servers. Console players had no server browser — they could only join official servers. The communities grew up separately with no way to play together.
Hell Let Loose: Vietnam breaks that pattern from day one. Full crossplay at launch means the PC and console communities start together rather than being stitched together later. That is a meaningfully different foundation for a game that depends on a large, active player base to function.
Things to Check Before You Play
- Make sure you have a free Epic Games account. You need it linked to use the friends system and squad features regardless of your platform.
- On PS5, check that your PS Plus subscription is active. Online multiplayer requires it.
- On Xbox, confirm your Game Pass Core or Game Pass Ultimate subscription is current.
- If you care about cross-progression, decide which ecosystem you want to commit to before you buy. Steam and PS5 do not share progress.
- Use the server browser Server Type filter before queuing if you have a preference about who you play against.
