How to Fast Travel in Crimson Desert (Abyss Nexus, Abyss Cresset & Mysterious Energy Guide)
TL;DR
- Fast travel uses two types of points: Abyss Nexus (step on to activate) and Abyss Cressets (solve a puzzle to activate)
- Neither type is marked on your map by default — you have to find them manually
- Use Blinding Flash (R1+R2 on PlayStation, RB+LB on Xbox) to reveal nearby Abyss points with a blue light trail
- Look for white question mark circles labeled Mysterious Energy on your map — that is where fast travel points hide
- To travel, open your map, hover over an activated icon, and press Triangle on PlayStation or Y on Xbox
- You cannot fast travel while mounted, in combat, or mid-action — dismount first
- Abyss Cressets also reward an Abyss Artifact when activated, making them doubly worth finding
Pywel is enormous. Riding your horse from one region to another takes real time, and the game does not hand you a map full of fast travel markers from the start. If you do not know what to look for, you can go a long time without ever unlocking a single teleport point.
This guide explains both types of fast travel, exactly how to find and activate them, how to use Blinding Flash to track them down, and what notable early points to unlock near Hernand.

How Fast Travel Works in Crimson Desert
If you are looking for traditional fast travel icons on the main map in Crimson Desert, you will not find any. Unlike most open-world titles where you can simply visit a town to unlock a waypoint, the game binds its fast travel system to elements of the Abyss — specifically the Abyss Nexuses and Abyss Cressets.
There are two types of fast travel points in the game. They work differently to unlock but function identically once active.

You can only fast travel to Abyss Cresset and Abyss Nexus markers. These will not unlock automatically as you pass through an area and must be manually activated.
Once you have an active point, hover over it on the map and double-click, or press Y on controller, to teleport to that location. It is worth noting that you cannot fast travel if you are mounted, so make sure to get off your horse first.
You also cannot fast travel while in combat or performing an active action. Find a safe moment, open your map, and travel from there.

Type 1 — Abyss Nexus (Step On to Activate)
Abyss Nexus points are flat stone platforms with an engraved circular pattern in the center. Walk up and stand on the circle until it glows blue. That is all it takes. No puzzle, no combat, no cost.
They are not marked on your map until you physically find them. As you explore new areas, look for stone platforms near roads, hilltops, and open fields. The closest Abyss Nexus to Hernand is at the stables just north of the city. Grab it early as it gives you a reliable anchor point to teleport back to town after exploring the surrounding areas.

Type 2 — Abyss Cressets (Puzzle Required)
Abyss Cressets are found inside Ancient Ruins. Unlike a Nexus, you cannot just stand on them. You need to find and solve the puzzle inside the ruins first.
Each ruin has its own puzzle. Some involve aligning stone disks. Others involve combat trials or environmental challenges. Once the puzzle is solved, a stone pillar rises from the ground outside. Interact with it and select Take to collect the Abyss Artifact sitting on top. Taking the artifact activates the Cresset as a permanent fast travel point.
You already completed your first one during the Reunion quest at Meandering Hills Ruins. If you need a reminder of how that puzzle worked, our Crimson Desert Reunion Quest Walkthrough has the full solution.
Abyss Cressets are worth finding not just for fast travel. Every single one gives you an Abyss Artifact, which is used to unlock and upgrade skills or push gear past Refinement Level 4. Never leave a Cresset without claiming the artifact.
How to Find Fast Travel Points Using Blinding Flash
This is the most important trick for finding fast travel points and the game barely mentions it.
Hold R1 and R2 simultaneously on PlayStation, or RB and LB on Xbox, to activate Blinding Flash. If any Abyss-related point is nearby, a trail of blue light will appear and lead you directly to it. This works for Abyss Nexus points, Abyss Cressets, and loose Abyss Artifacts hidden in the world.
If no trail appears, you are either too far from any Abyss point or the terrain is blocking the signal. Move to higher ground and try again. Hilltops and elevated areas give Blinding Flash a wider detection range.
Use this ability every time you enter a new area. It costs nothing and takes two seconds. You will be surprised how many fast travel points you walk straight past without it.

How to Read the Map for Fast Travel Points
Open your map and switch to the Environment tab. Look for large white circles with a question mark inside labeled Mysterious Energy. These zones contain either an Abyss Nexus or an Ancient Ruins with an Abyss Cresset inside.
Do not zoom too far out or these circles will disappear from view. Stay at a mid-zoom level when scanning for them.
Not every Mysterious Energy zone is a fast travel point. Some are Secret Places or other exploration challenges. The only way to know which is which is to go there and check. Once you activate a point it replaces the question mark with the appropriate fast travel icon on your map.
Notable Early Fast Travel Points Near Hernand
These are the most useful points to unlock in the early game:
North of Hernand — Abyss Nexus at the stables just north of the city. The closest fast travel point to town and the first one you should activate.
Meandering Hills Ruins — Abyss Cresset from the Reunion quest. Already done if you followed the main story.
Elowen the Witch’s Home — A fast travel point sits just outside Elowen’s home. Since she handles Abyss Gear upgrades, this saves a lot of back and forth trips.
Goldleaf Guildhouse Area — An Abyss Nexus south of the Goldleaf Guildhouse near Pororin Village. Useful when heading to the Black Market vendors in the Serkis Estate area.
Haunted Hill — A teleporter on Haunted Hill on the road heading north toward Calphade. Good to grab when you start exploring beyond Hernand.
As you move into new regions, always prioritise locking in fast travel points before going too deep. Coming back to unlock them later when you are in unfamiliar territory is always more annoying than grabbing them on the way through.
The Abyss Islands and Sky Fast Travel
The Abyss is a realm of floating islands high up in the sky above Pywel. Each island has its own fast travel point, and there are 40 Abyss Restoration challenges spread across these islands.
Once you have access to sky islands, you can fast travel to one above any region and skydive straight down to the surface below. This becomes one of the fastest ways to travel in the mid and late game, especially when surface fast travel points are sparse in a new area.

Open your map, hover over any activated Abyss Nexus or Abyss Cresset icon, and press Triangle on PlayStation or Y on Xbox to teleport there instantly. You must be dismounted, out of combat, and not performing any action before fast travel will work.
How do you find Abyss Nexus points in Crimson Desert?
Use Blinding Flash (R1+R2 on PlayStation, RB+LB on Xbox) to reveal a trail of blue light pointing toward nearby Abyss points. On your map, look for white question mark circles labeled Mysterious Energy — these zones contain either an Abyss Nexus or an Abyss Cresset. Switch to the Environment tab on the map and zoom in to see these circles more clearly.
What is the difference between an Abyss Nexus and an Abyss Cresset in Crimson Desert?
An Abyss Nexus is a stone platform on the ground. Stand on the central circle until it glows blue to activate it — no puzzle required. An Abyss Cresset is found inside Ancient Ruins and requires solving a puzzle to activate. Both work as fast travel points once active, but Abyss Cressets also reward you with an Abyss Artifact used to upgrade skills.

Find the Abyss Cresset inside an Ancient Ruins location, solve the puzzle guarding it, then interact with the pillar and select Take to collect the Abyss Artifact. Taking the artifact activates the Cresset as a permanent fast travel point. The puzzle type varies by location — some involve disk alignment, others involve combat or environmental challenges.
