Where to Find the Infinite Iron Patch in Solarpunk

The infinite iron source is a flat ground patch located south of the pond on your starting island. It sits near the cliff wall in that area.

This is the key thing that trips most players up. The patch does not look like an iron boulder. It is a round, rocky-textured patch on the ground. If you are scanning the area for large grey rocks, you will miss it entirely. Look at the ground itself.

• From your spawn point, head down the path to the left.
• Follow it until you see a pool of water.
• Take the path to the left of the pool.
• You will see a couple of small iron nodes nearby. Those are the finite ones.
• Look at the ground between and around those nodes for a flat, rough-textured circular patch. That is your infinite iron source.

How to Mine the Infinite Iron Patch

Equip your pickaxe and hit the ground patch. Each swing has a chance to drop Iron Ore. You will also occasionally get Stone and Clay as bonus drops, which are useful for other crafting recipes.

The patch never depletes. You can mine it as many times as you want. It will always be there, no matter how much ore you take from it.

Important: Watch Your Pickaxe Durability

The iron patch drains pickaxe durability significantly faster than regular iron rocks. This is the one real downside to using it.

The Furnace is a Tier 2 Research Table unlock. You need 15x Stone to craft it once the blueprint is researched. Stone is easy to find — break the brown rocks scattered around your starting island.

How to Smelt Iron Bars

Place your Iron Ore in the top slot of the Furnace. Add wood or sticks in the bottom slot as fuel. The Furnace will process the ore and produce Iron Bars automatically. One piece of wood fuels the smelting of multiple ores, so you do not need a massive amount of fuel for each run.

A single Furnace can hold and process up to 16 ores at a time. If you need to smelt a large batch quickly, build multiple Furnaces side by side. Running two or three at once speeds up production significantly.

What Iron Is Used For in Solarpunk

Iron Bars are needed across a wide range of progression steps. Here are the main uses:

• Airship Dock research unlock — Requires 5x Iron as part of the research cost.
• Airship Dock construction — Requires 20x Iron to build the dock structure itself.
• Airship construction — Requires 10x Iron to craft the Airship at the dock.
• Repair Kits — Requires 5x Iron per kit to repair your Airship after damage.
• Tools and weapons — Iron-tier tools are more durable and efficient than stone tools.
• Various buildings and structures — Many mid-game crafting recipes use Iron Bars as a core ingredient.

The Research Table specifically needs an Iron Bar to unlock Tier 3 recipes. This is what opens up the Airship Dock and most of the mid-game progression. So smelting your first Iron Bar should be a top priority once you have the Furnace running.

Regular Iron Rocks vs the Infinite Patch

• Iron rocks (boulders) — These are the large grey-black nodes scattered across the island. Each one gives 2x Iron Ore when mined. They do not respawn. Once gone, they are gone. These are good for a quick early batch but will run out.

• Smelt in batches. Fill one or two Furnaces with a full load of 16 ores each. Start them together, go do something else, and come back to a stack of Iron Bars.
• Do not burn Iron on optional items early. Save your first iron for the Furnace, Research Table Tier 3 unlock, and the Airship Dock. Spending it on decorative or optional tools before those gates will slow your progression.
