TL;DR
- Mega Stones cost 2,000 VP each from the Frontier Shop — the main way to get them
- Some stones are free via the Battle Pass, Legends: Z-A transfer bonuses, and the Mega Evolution tutorial
- Mega Stones do NOT appear in your regular item inventory — they have their own tab
- Equip them through the battle party screen before entering a match, not from the main inventory
- You can only Mega Evolve once per battle — timing it right matters
- Every trainer has an Omni Ring automatically — you do not need to buy it
Mega Evolution is back in Pokemon Champions, and it is one of the most important mechanics in competitive play right now. Every player has access to it from the start. The question is which Mega Stone you get first and how you use it.
This guide covers every way to get Mega Stones, why they seem to go missing after you buy them (and where they actually are), and exactly how to trigger Mega Evolution in battle.
To understand how Victory Points work — which you need to buy most Mega Stones — check our full guide on how to get Victory Points in Pokemon Champions.
What Are Mega Stones in Pokemon Champions?
Mega Stones are held items that allow specific Pokemon to Mega Evolve during battle. Each stone is tied to exactly one Pokemon species. Gengarite only works on Gengar. Lucarionite only works on Lucario. There is no universal stone.
When a Pokemon holding its corresponding Mega Stone Mega Evolves, it gains a significant boost to its stats, changes or gains a new ability, and in some cases changes its type entirely. These changes stay in effect for the entire battle — you cannot reverse a Mega Evolution once it happens.
There are currently 47 Mega Stones available in Pokemon Champions at launch, matching the 59 total Mega Evolution forms in the game. More are expected to be added in future seasonal updates.
The Omni Ring: What It Is and Do You Need It?
Every trainer in Pokemon Champions wears a device called the Omni Ring. This is the item that activates Mega Evolution during battle — it is the modern equivalent of the Mega Ring from Pokemon X and Y.
You do not need to buy or find the Omni Ring. Every player receives it automatically during the tutorial. As long as your Pokemon is holding the correct Mega Stone, the Omni Ring activates the transformation.
The Omni Ring is also designed to support future battle mechanics. Z-Moves, Dynamax, and Terastallization are all expected to be added to the Omni Ring in future updates. For now, Mega Evolution is the only active gimmick.
All Ways to Get Mega Stones in Pokemon Champions

Method 1: Buy from the Frontier Shop (Main Method)
The most reliable and consistent way to get any specific Mega Stone is to buy it directly from the Frontier Shop using Victory Points.
Cost: 2,000 VP per Mega Stone

How to buy:
- From the main menu, select Shop
- Choose Frontier Shop
- Use the left stick or D-pad to navigate to the Mega Stones section
- Press A to select the stone you want
- Confirm the purchase for 2,000 VP
The Frontier Shop stocks all available Mega Stones at any time. You do not need to wait for a rotation or specific event. If you have the VP, you can buy any stone right now.
Since each stone costs 2,000 VP and a typical Ranked Battle win earns around 325 VP, budgeting for your Mega Stone before you need it is smart. Plan which Mega Evolution fits your team first, then start saving.
Method 2: Complete the Mega Evolution Tutorial
Completing the Mega Evolution tutorial from the Training Menu rewards you with several free Mega Stones. This is a one-time reward, but it is a meaningful head start — especially for new players who want to try Mega Evolution without spending VP first.
Access this through the Training section from the main menu. Complete the Mega Evolution segment and claim the stones from your rewards.
Do this early. It is free VP value and gets you battle-ready with Mega Evolution faster.

Method 3: Season 1 Battle Pass Rewards
Two specific Mega Stones are available as Battle Pass rewards in Season 1 of Pokemon Champions:
Emboarite — the Mega Stone for Mega Emboar
Dragoninite — the Mega Stone for Mega Dragonite
Both are unlockable through the free and/or premium Battle Pass tiers as you earn Season Points (SP) by playing. The Dragoninite is especially notable because it lets Dragonite — the free early download bonus Pokemon — Mega Evolve into Mega Dragonite.
Earning SP is passive. You get it from every battle, win or lose. Just keep playing and these stones will arrive naturally as you level up the Battle Pass.

Method 4: Pokemon Legends Z-A Transfer Bonus
This is the most unique way to get Mega Stones in Pokemon Champions, and it rewards players who have progress in Pokemon Legends: Z-A.
By transferring specific Pokemon from Legends: Z-A into Pokemon Champions via Pokemon Home, you receive the corresponding Mega Stone directly in your in-game mailbox. No VP required.
The confirmed stones available through this method are:
| Transfer This Pokemon from Legends: Z-A | Receive This Mega Stone |
|---|---|
| Chesnaught (from Legends: Z-A) | Chesnaughtite |
| Delphox (from Legends: Z-A) | Delphoxite |
| Greninja (from Legends: Z-A) | Greninjite |
| Eternal Flower Floette (from Legends: Z-A) | Floettite |
These must be the Legends: Z-A versions of these Pokemon specifically. Versions caught in other games will not trigger the bonus. Once transferred, check your mailbox in Pokemon Champions to claim the stones.
Method 5: Mystery Gifts and Promotional Events
Occasional Mystery Gift distributions may include Mega Stones as rewards. Keep an eye on active gift codes and limited-time events, as these can provide specific stones without needing to spend VP.
Where Are My Mega Stones? Why They Seem to Disappear
This is the most common question from new players and it has a simple answer: Mega Stones are not in your regular item inventory. They are hidden in a separate tab that most players never find by accident.
When you buy a Mega Stone and then open your general items list looking for it, it will not be there. This trips up nearly everyone on their first purchase and makes it feel like the game ate your item.
Here is where they actually live and how to equip them.

How to Equip a Mega Stone in Pokemon Champions
Mega Stones are equipped as held items through the battle party screen. You must have the Pokemon you want to equip on your active battle team before this option appears.
Method 1: Through the Box
- From the main menu, select Box on the right side of the screen
- Select the Pokemon you want to equip
- Press X to open the Held Item screen
- Press R or L to cycle through item tabs until you reach the Mega Stone tab — it is not on the first tab
- Select the correct Mega Stone for that Pokemon (for example, Gengarite for Gengar)
- Confirm the change
Method 2: Through the Battle Party
- Select a Pokemon from your active battle line-up
- From the pop-up menu, choose Give an item to hold
- Cycle through item tabs using R or L until you reach the Mega Stones tab
- Select the matching stone and confirm
The Mega Stone takes up the Held Item slot entirely. That means the Pokemon carrying a Mega Stone cannot also carry any other held item — no Life Orb, no Choice Band, no Leftovers. This is a real trade-off and worth thinking about when building your team.
If the Pokemon is not in your active battle party, neither method will work. Add it to your team first, then assign the stone.

How to Use Mega Evolution in Battle
Once the Mega Stone is equipped, triggering Mega Evolution during a match is straightforward.
- Enter a battle with the Pokemon holding its Mega Stone on your team
- When it is your turn, select Fight
- Press R to toggle the Mega Evolution option through your Omni Ring
- Select your move — the Mega Evolution and the move happen on the same turn
- Your Pokemon transforms instantly, gaining boosted stats and its Mega ability
The transformation applies immediately and is permanent for that match. Your Pokemon stays in its Mega form even if you switch it out. It will return in Mega form when called back in.
The one-per-battle rule: You can only Mega Evolve one Pokemon per battle. If you have multiple Pokemon on your team holding Mega Stones, you still only get to activate Mega Evolution once across the entire match. Choose wisely.
Mega Evolution Timing: When to Use It
Knowing when to Mega Evolve is just as important as having the right stone. Here are the key principles.
Scout your opponent first. Most competitive players recommend waiting until you have seen at least one or two of your opponent’s Pokemon before committing your Mega Evolution. Knowing their lead can help you decide which Mega form gives the biggest advantage.
Go early if you have a hard counter. If your Mega Evolution directly counters your opponent’s lead Pokemon, activating it immediately can shut the match down before it escalates.
Save it for the mid-game if unsure. Some Mega Evolutions like Mega Gengar with Shadow Tag are most effective when used mid-match to trap and eliminate a key threat your opponent is relying on.
Never waste it on a clean-up. Activating Mega Evolution to finish off a weakened Pokemon is usually a waste. Save it for a situation where the stat boost and ability change make a difference.

Mega Stones and What They Do: Key Picks for Competitive Play
There are 47 Mega Stones in Pokemon Champions right now. Here are the most impactful ones to prioritize based on current competitive play.
Gengarite (Mega Gengar) Activates Shadow Tag, which prevents your opponent’s active Pokemon from switching out. This lets you trap and eliminate specific threats. Mega Gengar is one of the strongest special attackers in the game and one of the first Mega Stones worth buying.
Greninjite (Mega Greninja) Activates Protean, which changes Greninja’s type to match whatever move it just used. Smart move selection can neutralize incoming attacks. Mega Greninja has very high Speed and hits hard across a wide range of matchups.
Lucarionite (Mega Lucario) Activates Adaptability, which boosts STAB moves (Fighting and Steel) from 1.5x to 2x damage. Mega Lucario hits extremely hard with Fighting-type moves and is a strong offensive pick in the current format.
Meganiumite (Mega Meganium) Activates the brand-new Mega Sol ability, exclusive to Champions. Mega Meganium treats all moves as if harsh sunlight is active — meaning Solar Beam fires without a charge turn and Fire-type teammates benefit from the sun without requiring a weather setter. Strong team synergy pick.
Dragoninite (Mega Dragonite) Activates Multiscale, which reduces incoming damage by 50% when Dragonite is at full HP. Gives Mega Dragonite exceptional durability when first sent out and is available free from the Season 1 Battle Pass.
Feraligatrite (Mega Feraligatr) Activates Dragonize, turning all Normal-type moves into Dragon-type moves with a 20% power boost. Mega Feraligatr is a Water/Dragon type, creating devastating combinations with powerful Normal-type moves under the new typing.
Clefablite (Mega Clefable) Activates Magic Bounce, reflecting all status moves back onto the opponent. Great utility pick that protects your team from Spore, Will-O-Wisp, Thunder Wave, and other status moves.

Tips for Getting and Using Mega Stones Efficiently
Get Dragoninite from the Battle Pass first. It is free, it works with the free Dragonite everyone gets, and Mega Dragonite with Multiscale is genuinely strong. You do not need to spend VP for this one.
Complete the Mega Evolution tutorial immediately. Free stones, free experience with the mechanic, and good preparation before you spend VP.
Check your mailbox if you transferred from Legends: Z-A. The Chesnaughtite, Delphoxite, Greninjite, and Floettite arrive as mailbox rewards — they do not appear in your inventory automatically.
Press R or L to cycle tabs when equipping. Every player who thinks their Mega Stone disappeared is almost always just looking at the wrong tab in the item menu.
Only equip Mega Stones before entering battle. There is no way to change a held item after a match has started. Set up your team completely before you queue up.
One Mega Stone per team is usually enough. Since you can only use Mega Evolution once per battle, bringing more than one Pokemon with a Mega Stone means the others are wasting their held item slot on something that can never activate. Consider this carefully when building teams.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to buy the Omni Ring?
No. Every trainer receives the Omni Ring automatically during the tutorial. You do not need to buy or find it.
Why can’t I find my Mega Stone in my items?
Mega Stones do not appear in the regular item list. You must access them through the battle party screen by pressing R or L to switch to the Mega Stone tab in the held item menu.
Can I have two Pokemon Mega Evolve in the same battle?
No. You can only Mega Evolve one Pokemon per battle regardless of how many Pokemon on your team are holding Mega Stones.
Does a Mega Evolution revert if I switch the Pokemon out?
No. Once a Pokemon Mega Evolves, it stays in its Mega form for the rest of the battle, even if it is switched out and back in.
Can I give a Mega Stone to any Pokemon?
No. Each Mega Stone only works on its corresponding species. Gengarite only works on Gengar, Lucarionite only works on Lucario, and so on.
Can I use held items AND a Mega Stone on the same Pokemon?
No. The Mega Stone takes up the Held Item slot entirely. A Pokemon holding a Mega Stone cannot also hold a Life Orb, Choice Band, or any other item.
Are Mega Stones available in every format?
Mega Evolution is active in Regulation Set M-A, which is the current format running from April 8 to June 17, 2026. Future regulations may restrict which Mega Evolutions are allowed. Check current regulation details before investing in a specific stone for competitive play.
